On my understanding of sight interpreting

What is sight interpreting? Before I learned this course, I thought it was a course related to translation but somewhat different. Then I went to the Internet to search for the information. Lambert once described the process of translating the literal information of one language into the oral information of another language. Sight interpreting is not only a kind of interpretation work but also the basis of training step-by-step interpretation and simultaneous interpretation.

Sight interpreting basically has the following requirements: first of all, the meaning of the sentence must be understood in a short time, and the logical relationship between the front and the back must be sorted out clearly, so as to make the translated text as accurate as possible, while the grammar is correct. Then the expression should be smooth, without hesitation or redundancy.

The basic principles are as follows，First, do not go back and repeat. Second, if you miss important information, you can add a supplementary meaning. Then, the time of sight interpreting is usually no more

than one-third of the original reading time. Learn how to quickly distinguish between major idea and minor detail. Finally, when this, that, these and those appear, it is often necessary to explain what they mean, for example: Their top concern was indeed total compensation. But intangible factors are taken together like work-life balance, leadership quality... far outweigh money in their decisions to stay or leave. And we found that the longer an associate is with us, pay matters less and these factors matter more.

If these factors are translated into "these invisible factors", they will be clearer than "these factors".

To do a good job of sight interpreting, we need to make good use of relevant materials and keep a clear mind, to maintain the best state in the field.
