仙台媒体中心

仙台媒体中心方案是一个以全新方式关注工程项目程序的建筑提案。该建筑物包括一个艺术画廊、一个图书馆、一个视觉影像中心和一个供视听障碍者使用的服务中心。从竞赛开始至整个设计阶段，在这一系列过程中，我们的主要目标是要推翻美术馆和图书馆的传统建筑原型。我们仔细研究各个项目程序的每一部分，不放过任何一个细节，抱着重新组合建筑结构程序的想法，来创造一个全新的“媒介中心”。于是在向各个领域的专家咨询了意见，并与仙台市民进行了大量会议交流之后，我们对该中心的基本想法逐渐成型。

The Sendai Mediatheque is an architectural proposal that regards the programme in a new way. The building includes an art gallery, a library, a visual image centre and a services centre for people with visual or hearing difficulties. From the outset of the competition and throughout the design stage, our main objective was to demolish the conventional archetypes of art museums and libraries. We studied each of the programmes in minute detail with the idea of recomposing them to create a 'mediatheque'. The basic ideas were therefore developed on the basis of consultations with specialists in a wide range of fields and exchanges of opinions at numerous meetings with Sendai’s citizens.

Since this type of discussion can be interminable, the architectural hardware had to be flexible enough to respond to any new future development and be able to integrate any other programme. We have not changed our ideas since the competition: instead of being formalistic architecture, our proposal is a simple, conceptual proposal that consists of three elements: 'plate', 'tube' and 'skin’.
