The Reflection of the Ulysse sRecently I have finished one novel named Ulysses which is written by James Joyce. James Joyce is an Irish writer and poet, he was born on February 2 ,1882 in Dublin a catholic family, and he passed away on January 13, 1941 in Zurich Switzerland. He got a good education and it made contributions to his literature career. We acknowledge him as an one of the famous writers in twenty century，because he got a lot of achievements in literature fields，as to his famous works ，such as Araby，Dubliners and Ulysse s. As a Modernist novelist，In some aspects ,he was an author with the spirit of rebellion. At the beginning he has a belief in Catholicism，but he dropped it in his later life .It happens for me to choose this novel，after all I haven’t heard it yet，of course I know a little about it. Alas，it is very difficult for me to understand the real meaning of this book. To some extent ，when it crosses my mind ，I will think that this novel just describes a day of several people. However, this kind of idea only appears in my mind before I get some background information of Ireland history. It reminds me of one of four masterpieces of china named A Dream in Red Mansions. To be honest ,there are so many similarities between them. At first ,maybe you will feel that A Dream in Red Mansions is a book which tells you a story between men and women .In fact ,you are totally wrong .For me, Ulysse s gives me the same feeling at the beginning.Do you think one day is a long time? Most of us will not think so. Because it is so short in our whole lives that sometimes we are not likely to notice it. If someone ask you to write a journal of your one day life , many people will consider that it is a boring thing ,so do I .but Joyce did it.Ulysse s is a long novel ,to my surprise, it consists of only one day life of several people, the author writes it in time order from morning to evening. This book is made of three parts including eighteen chapters. The first main character is Mr. Bloom, he is an Irish , he is making a living on a newspaper office ,he is with knowledge but he is hardly using his abilities to try to change his terrible life. In this book, James describes his behaviors and inner thoughts vividly. Itimpresses on me a lot. The second main character is Molly Bloom who is Mr. Bloom’s wife, actually ,the relationship between this couples are not good. On the one hand Ms Bloom is a star ,so it is obvious that she can earn more money than Mr. Bloom, duing to it ,they are not equal in their family .what’s worst ,she has different affairs with other men. It makes their relationship stranger. But they still live in together, I am confused by their choices for a long time. If they love each other , why do they betray each other ?If they do not like each other at all ,why not divorce to set themselves free? Now I get the answer, they are satisfied at current situation and they are in numble of their lives. The day that is written by James is a normal day for Mr. Bloom .In the morning ,he works ,I n the afternoon ,he suffers from his wife’s affair s, he has lunch, he keeps a romantic relationship with a lady in spirit, he goes to a beach and even wants to take advantages over a disabled girl. In the evening ,he is under blue and recharges himself from a young man Stephen Dedalus. Because he can feel that he was a father when he faces this young man. Stephen can get father’s love from Mr. Bloom .they comfort their hurt heart.When I finish it ,for one thing I feel something in my heart to hold my breath .It is not comfortable .Because each chapter of this novel is a bit complicated and awkward. For another thing, I find some useful skills in this book. Metaphor is one of main skills in it. Mr. Bloom is a reflection of the civil in Ireland at that time.In reality, Mr. Bloom is a poor thing. His marriage is totally making him in agony, he lost his young kid that is another hit for him. However, he is a civilized person, in order to be gentlemen he even refuses to have meals with some rude people. On the one hand ,when it comes to his life ,Mr. Bloom is depressed, he is anxious, he is full of contradictions. On the other hand ,Mr. Bloom has some expectations on his life, we can get his this kind of thoughts from his attitude towards his dishonest wife. In his heart ,he hopes one day his wife can find she is wrong and can stop her dishonest actions. Unfortunately ,it’s his dream, meanwhile, it is impossible to come true. Because Ms Bloom is a lady who is accustomed to having affairs with men. So the reality gives Mr. Bloom a big hit, gradually, he loses his believes and ambitions of his life. Mr. Bloom’s decadent is a reflection of the early twentieth century Irish commonpeople’s lives. They are loneliness, they are confused, they are despaired. But they don’t try to change it. What the book’s contains recall me to think the process of preparing TEM4,it is really a hardship for me. I almost suffer every day during this period .But I cannot deny that it brings me a lot of things, bitter with happiness. My college life is lighted by it. So no matter what problem you will face ,you’d better not lose your aim ,your determination, your perseverance. It is unwise to give in when you are hit. To try your best to recover it and find some ways to deal with it.。

对我来说，也的确是本“意识流天书”，这本书涉及到了大量宗教、西方文学、后现代主义、古英文、法文、拉丁文、希腊文、梵文、阿拉伯文方面的内容，而对这些知识一无所知的我实在是很难在短时间内读懂这本天书。
有人说，《尤利西斯》其实没这么难读，如果把看不下去或看不懂的部分跳过，大概二十分钟就可以读完，这说的大概就是我读尤利西斯尤利西斯的方式了。
这样一番读下来，我除了知道一点基本的故事梗概外，还是一头雾水。
这本书的内容简单来讲就是两个都柏林青年一天之内发生的事。
然而中间场景的杂乱切换，人物内心活动狂野的描写，真的不是平时看习惯网文，甚至经典小说的人能理解接受的了的。
作者先讲了一个极其普通的小职员在海岸边的旅馆插科打诨，而我对男主的了解仅限于名字和工作而已。
接着看下去，作者花了很大篇幅描写他们嘲笑英格兰人，嘲笑苏格兰人等诸如此类无聊的事。
看着看着我就发现不对，怎么翻了一页男主就换了，没有一点防备毫无征兆的换了。
接下来就是在两个男主和一个妓女间来回切换，对我来说完全看不下去，实在是太乱了。
这本书是难读的，对于这样的“难读”，乔伊斯本人是这样解释的：“我在《尤利西斯》里设置了那么多迷津，它将迫使几个世纪的教授学者们来争论我的原意，这是确保不朽的唯一途径。
”据说心理分析大师容格花了三年才读通此书，而译者萧乾也觉得读《尤利西斯》非三年不可。
人称《尤利西斯》为“天书”，在中国只有《易经》有此殊荣，其晦涩难懂可想而知。

《Ulysses》读后感
《Ulysses》是爱尔兰现代主义作家詹姆斯·乔伊斯于1922年出版的长篇小说。
小说以时间为顺序，描述了主人公，苦闷彷徨的都柏林小市民，广告推销员利奥波德·布卢姆（Leopold Bloom）于1904年6月16日一昼夜之内在都柏林的种种日常经历。
乔伊斯选择这一天来描写，是因为这一天是他和他的妻子诺拉·巴纳克尔（Nora Barnacle）首次约会的日子。
如果你一天无所事事，推荐你去看《指环王》三部曲；如果你一星期无所事事，推荐你去旅游；如果你一个月无所事事，推荐你去打ＣＳ、仙剑、星际之类的电脑游戏；如果你一年无所事事，推荐你去读《Ulysses》。
据说心理分析大师容格花了三年才读通此书，而译者萧乾也觉得读《Ulysses》非三年不可。
不过，咱也不必被老前辈们的话吓倒，如今是信息时代，别说读一本书，就算发明巡航导弹，一年时间也绰绰有余了。
况且咱又没打算年底把它改编成贺岁剧，所以不必全通，通个三五分、六七分足矣。
除消磨时间外，读《Ulysses》会有很多意想不到的好处。
人称《Ulysses》为“天书”，在中国只有《易经》有此殊荣，其晦涩难懂可想而知。
此话并非唬人，想当年乔伊斯写它时，就以努力让大家看不懂为己任，1994年的中译本里仅注释就有5991条。
所以想要读懂《Ulysses》，非得削尖脑袋使劲往里钻才行。
假如你足够勤奋的话，为读《Ulysses》，你必定会泡图书馆，一本接一本地读完整个有关西方文学、后现代主义的专著；晚上回家必定上网，一行行地搜索关于乔伊斯的资料，或到ＢＢＳ里和其他闲人交流。
如此一年下来，至少在后现代主义理论方面，你绝对不亚于中文系硕士研究生的水平，发表几篇学术论文应该不成问题。
或者直接去报考外国文学的研究生（前提是你不是外国文学的研究生），凭你对《Ulysses》的了解，相信教授一定会刮目相看，说不定激动之下，不用考试当场就破格录取。
或者你是一位追求完美的人，当你得知《Ulysses》中使用了大量古英文、法文、拉丁文、希腊文、梵文、阿拉伯文等等诸多可敬的文时，你会觉得只读中文版太不解渴，于是搬来一摞外语辞典，反复研读原版。
