课时作业19Body languageⅠ.阅读理解AI want to talk about a soldier. I saw him yesterday as my husband and I were enjoying a wonderful lunch in the cave-like dining room of an old hotel. It is hard to imagine being fortable in a room that probably seats a thousand, but the real magic of the place is its wonderful setting. Every corner is a wood and stone masterpiece, with high glass windows that look out to the huge cliffs of the valley.A man entered with his family and took a seat. He wasn't in uniform, but he walked with the dignity of a soldier, and a slight limp (瘸). My suspicion was confirmed when he removed his hat and placed it on the table where I could see it. Embroidered (绣) on the cap were the words:“Iwo Jima Survivor”.As they were waiting for lunch, the others talking happily, this gentleman was staring out of the window. He was content to be left out of the conversation and allowed to take in the wonderful and impressive view of the waterfall.I watched him, and imagined how much horror he had seen in the war. What losses did he suffer, and how many friends did he lose? What he had witnessed should have given him a good reason to lose faith in the world. Yet this tired soldier was smiling at the sky, at the sun and the roaring of the waterfall. Somehow, after everything, the world was still beautiful to him.I walked over to him and said, “Excuse me, sir. I'm sorry to interrupt, but I saw your hat, and I just wanted to say thank you for serving.”He looked up at me, surprised, and said proudly, “You're wele, and thank you, too.”I told him I would go home and tell my children about this experience that I'd met him.本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了作者和丈夫在一家看起来像洞穴似的饭店用餐时,见到了一位没穿制服但极具军人气质的瘸腿士兵。

Unit 4 Body languageⅠ.阅读理解ARecently,I had lunch with a young Chinese student who studies at a college in New York.He is very bright and aspiring and I enjoyed our conversation.Still I felt frustrated and useless afterwards because I was not able to provide him with any good news.Graduating at the end of this year,he asked me how he could find a job in this country and fulfill his career dreams. In recent years, students who found a job here after graduation have had to go through a cruel lottery system to obtain their HIB working visa. And the success rates have been declining year after year because of the ever growing number of st year, there were 233,000 applicants, and only 30 percent of them were lucky, less than half of the rate in 2013.And it can only become President Donald Trump's immigration policies in this country are tightening up and this trend will continue for at least the next few years. In this case, foreign students studying social sciences,a field in which starting salaries are rarely above the required amount, can kiss their visa hopes goodbye.Compared to the older generation of Chinese students, today's young people no longer consider the US as the only option. Many start to think China offers better opportunities in the longer term. This is not to say that Chinese students in the US are not interested in job opportunities here any more.A few years of work experience in the US can give them leverage when they finally land back in their home country. But if the job opportunities are largely reduced by the tightening of immigration policy,I expect there will be a decline. And if that happens,it is the American economy that will suffer from the loss of those educated, hardworking and talented immigrants.[语篇解读] 本文为一篇记叙文。

课时提升作业十九必修4Unit 4Body language(限时35分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解AWhite-collar workers increasingly unhealthy An increasing number of white-collar workers in Shanghai are getting failing grades on their physical examinations, according to a white paper on the health of white-collar workers in Shanghai.Carried out by Shanghai Foreign Service Group, a human resources company, the report indicated that more than 53 percent of males are overweight, 46 percent suffer from a fatty liver and about 26 percent have elevated blood lipids (血脂). However, females are more often diagnosed as having breast lesions (乳房病变) that could lead to cancer (85 percent), thyroid (甲状腺) disorder (34 percent) and hemorrhoids (痔疮) (23 percent).Though the report also found that white-collar workers were paying increasing attention to their health—with about 84 percent saying they followed their condition closely or very closely—those with healthylifestyles dropped to 64 percent last year from 77 percent in 2015.The report came from about 500, 000 physical exams taken by white-collar workers in Shanghai over the past five years. “I always eat and drink too much and never exercise, ” said Wei Ruoxi, a 26-year-old working in finance who is struggling with being overweight. “I know what a healthy lifestyle looks like, but the job just brings too much pressure and squeezes out exercise time, ” she added. Hu Xiaolong, 30, an accountant in Shanghai, said he was determined to live healthily from now on. “My recent physical examination shows a little shadow in the lung, which startled me when I heard it. I really need to quit bad habits like smoking and staying up late. ”The white paper also showed that more people are turning to commercial health insurance to cope with financial risks caused by health problems. The popularity of insurance purchases among the participants reached 15. 3 percent last year, a rise of 4 percentage points in just one year. Most participants also expected their companies to help them with effective health management, such as offering membership cards for gyms, flexible working schedules and regular physical examinations. 【文章大意】文章详细介绍了一份关于白领工人健康检查结果的白皮书: 白领工人的健康状况正在下降。

A massive winter storm is expected to begin hitting Massachusetts tonight, dumping up to a foot or more of snow in some areas, while whipping the coast with powerful winds and driving rains, forecasters predict.“It’s got a little bit of everything,” William Babcock, a meteorologist(气象学家) at the National Weather Service in Taunton, said of the postChristmas storm that brought snowstorm conditions to the Ohio Valley before heading east with its mixed bag of snow, sleet, and rain.State Highway Administrator Frank De Paola said more than 4,000 states and snowplows(扫雪车) and salt spreaders were ready to make the roads safer for holiday travelers.“MassDOT will be fully staffed and will be ready to handle this,” De Paola said, nothing that the storm, which should bring snow to most of the state except the Cape and Island before turning into rain tomorrow, is Massachusetts’ first significant snowstorm of this winter season.“There have been events where we have had pretty much freezing, icing concerns, which we have treated with chemicals. But this is the first big event that will call for plowing(清街上的雪),” he said.A high wind watch has been issued for southeastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod. Forecasters say the wind could reach 60 mph, possibly bringing down power lines. In Worcester, some were busy for severe weather by buying rock salt, shovels and windshield wash, Barrows Hardware president Brain Barrow said. He called the volume(总量) of customers at his Webster Street store very steady on Wednesday morning. “You do get that supermarket effect for sure,” he said of shoppers stocking supplies before a storm. There were no flight delays or cancellations at Logan International Airport in Boston as of day. “Right now, everything’s ru nning normally,” airport spokesman Richard Walsh said. But Walsh said as the day progressed, travelers should contact their airlines directly to check the status of their flights.【解题导语】一场大的暴风雪即将席卷马萨诸塞州,但无论是气象学家、路政人员、普通市民还是超市等都对此次恶劣天气作好了各方面的准备和应对工作。

confusing it with hugge—another word of the Middle English ug,meaning “to i nspire with fear or disgust”.Nevertheless,I find myself drawn to the possibility that hug does,in fact, have some connection with ug.It seems to me that at the thought of a tight embrace (拥抱),fear and disgust do come to mind.So why is it that when I go over to your house for dinner, you wrap your arms around me,eventhough I saw you last Friday at the movies? One arm or two?Should there be space between us?Should I brush my cheek against yours?Maybe even kiss your cheek?I’m willing to believe that some peopl e really love to hug. They rush to enfold not only family and friends but also friends of friends and near strangers. They delight in applying pressure and rocking from side to side.Yet most people are just going through the motions;they’re looking for a way to say hello or goodbye. Not wanting to seem rude,I open my arms, too, submitting to the ceremony of friendship. After one particularly confusing interaction,I looked for advice from experts.Emily Yoffe,an advice columnist, offered her sympathy:“I’m with you on this, but I’ve become a nonhugger who hugs.Recently after breakfast with a new friend,I went in to hug her goodbye, and I could see a kind of horror in her eyes, but it was too late to back off.” That’s me:The girl with the look of horror in her eyes. The Emily Post Institute, which specializes in manners, explains that when greeting someone, you should look him or her in the eyes and smile, speak clearly, add a “glad to see you” and then shake hands with a firm grip, pump two or three times, and then release. The institute suggests adding a hug “if it’s a relative or close friend”.Not any specific information on what a proper hug involves. There are several hug alternatives, among them:the handshake, the cheek kiss, the wave, the arm squeeze, and the nod.Handshakes seem formal, cheek kisses unAmerican.Arm squeezing would be a good solution if it were not for the danger of getting pulled into something more fullbodied. The nod, though, can be very effective when combined with a smile, especially when executed with confidence and with one hand already grasping the door handle.1.What do the first two paragraphs indicate about “hug”?A.The word causes common disfavor.B.The behavior appears disgusting.C.The action is somewhat confusing.D.The manner is unsuitable for friends.2.About the way of embrace, the experts________.A.have a standard conceptB.feel embarrassed and uneasyC.advise people to use other waysD.fail to give an explicit definition3.What’s the author’s attitude towards hug?A.Cautious. B.Hesitant.C.Puzzled. D.Opposed.4.What does the passage mainly discuss?A.Indepth research into hug.B.Specialized opinions on daily manners.C.Appropriateness of daily manners.D.Important reform of greeting manners.Ⅵ.书面表达假如你是李华,对2019年一月出现的严重雾霾记忆犹新,认为绿色生活方式对于改善空气质量十分有益。

A new study has found the amount of antibiotics(抗生素)given to farm animals is expected to increase by twothirds over the next 15 years.Researchers are linking the growing dependence on the drugs to the increasing need for meat, milk and eggs. However, the drugs could quicken the development of antibioticresistant infections(感染).Such infections are already a major public health concern in the United States. The World Health Organization(WHO)notes when people stop living in poverty(贫困),the first thing they want to do is eat better, rather than earn more money. For most people, that means their diet should contain more meat. With the rapid development of Asia, people there are eating nearly four times as much meat, milk and other milk products as they did 50 years ago.To meet the need, farmers have put many animals into smaller spaces. As the animals are crowded together, the easiest way to deal with some of the problems of crowding is to give them antibiotics. It's clear that antibiotics help animals stay healthy in crowded environments and grow faster. But bacteria can develop resistance to the drugs gradually.Nowadays, doctors find antibiotics that once worked against the infections no longer work. The bacteria have learned ways to fight against the drugs. The heavy use of antibiotics in farm animals is responsible for the growth of antibiotic resistance worldwide. Each year in the United States,at least two million people get antibioticresistantinfections and at least 23,000 die from these infections.Europe has banned the use of antibiotics to increase animal growth. And the United States is hoping to persuade farmers to stop using antibiotics for that purpose.1.What accounts for the increasing amount of antibiotics given to farm animals?A.The desire for new drugs.B.The less effective antibiotics.C.The outdated farm technology.D.The need for more various foods.2.What do most people want to do first when they get rid of poverty according to the WHO?A.Making a lot of money.B.Focusing more on health.C.Having more meat in their diet.D.Living in a better environment.3.What can be inferred from the passage?A.Antibiotics do harm to animals.B.Antibiotics help animals stay healthy.C.Antibiotics are used heavily in Europe.D.Antibioticresistant bacteria spread to people.4.What's the passage mainly about?A.The negative effect of antibiotics on farm animals.B.The advantages of using antibiotics.C.The reason for banning the use of antibiotics.D.A new way of raising farm animals.【解题导语】本文主要围绕在农场动物身上使用抗生素的负面影响展开。
2019高考英语一轮复习练习题 Unit 4 Body language(含解析)新人教版必修4
Unit 4 Body language李仕才【阅读理解插花】阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Your house may have an effect on your figure . Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off . You can make your environment work for you instead of against you . Here are some ways to turn your home into part of diet plan.Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less self-conscious(难为情)when they’re in poorly lit places-and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn’t have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites . In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room . Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it’s time to repaint, go blue.Don’t forget the clock-or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories(卡路里) per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12-inch plate instead of a 10-inch plate. 高三英语一轮复习练习19:Unit 4 Body language练习题
Unit 4 Body languageⅠ.阅读理解AIn between running one of the world's largest charitable agencies and acting as Microsoft's technology advisor, Bill Gates manages to find time to read books, both long and short. Now Gates —who has been labeled a “greedy”reader —has released a list of his favorite books. All of the books are standout reads, according to the billionaire, most of which are focused on business and economy. Here are Bill's top four picks (with parts of his full review of each book).Business Adventures, by John BrooksBrooks' collection was published in 1969 and remains one of Gates' favorites. He reread it again this year, labeling it the best business book he has ever read.“Shortly after we met, Warren Buffett lent me this collection of business articles from TheNewYorker from the 1950s and 1960s. I loved them as much as he did. Brooks' insights (洞察力) into business have aged beautifully, and they are as true today as ever.”Capital in the TwentyFirst Century, by Thomas PikettyPiketty's novel hit the shelves in August 2013 and sparked much discussion concerning income inequality throughout this year. Gates also got to sit down with Piketty himself after reading the nonfiction work to discuss the topic.“As I told him, although I have concerns about some of his secondary points and policy prescriptions, I agree with his most important conclusions: inequality is a growing problem and governments should play a role in reducing it.”How Asia Works, by Joe StudwellStudwell's work, which was published in May 2014, addresses how countries such as Japan, South Korea and China have continued to achieve high growth, and why other countries have failed to do the same.“The agriculture section of the book was particularly insightful. It provided ample food for thought for me as well as the whole Agriculture team at our foundation. And it left us thinking about whether parts of the Asian model can apply in Africa.”Making the Modern World: Materials and Dematerialization, by Vaclav SmilSmil's books are a constant favorite of the Microsoft's founder —one of his books makes Gates' list almost every year. MakingtheModernWorld came out late in 2013 and explores the global use of materials, from silicon to wood and plastic.“If anyone tries to tell you we're using fewer materials, send him this book. With his usual skepticism and his love of data, Smil shows how our ability to make things with fewer materials —say, soda cans that need less aluminum —makes them cheaper, which actually encourages more production.”1.The books mentioned in the text are mainly about ________.A.charity in the worldB.business and economyC.poverty in the worldD.Bill Gates' life experience2.Of the books, ________ is best praised by Bill Gates.A.HowAsiaWorksB.CapitalintheTwentyFirstCenturyC.BusinessAdventuresD.MakingtheModernWorld:MaterialsandDematerialization3.Gates once had a personal discussion with the author of________.A.CapitalintheTwentyFirstCenturyB.BusinessAdventuresC.HowAsiaWorksD.MakingtheModernWorld:MaterialsandDematerialization4.In HowAsiaWorks, the author analyses ________.A.why African agriculture cannot develop fastB.how they can apply Asian economic model in African countriesC.why Asia is slow in agricultural developmentD.how some Asian countries have rapidly grown in economyBThe Scottish composer Evelyn Glennie lost nearly all her hearing as a young girl, yet went on to a very successful career in music including winning Grammy awards. When somebody asks her,“How do you hear?”She responds, “How do you hear? Is it only with your ears?”For Glennie, and for us too, listening is not only hearing, but is understanding. We need to listen to what is said and unsaid, and also how it is said. It's important to hear what people say accurately. As Mark Twainsaid,“The difference between the right word and the almost right wordis the difference between lightning and the lightning bug (萤火虫).”Ifyou miss something or you're not sure you've heard accurately, ask the speakers. At this point you're not evaluating what they say, but just looking for accuracy and understanding. Here are some ways to get clear about what they say and don't say. Why are they saying this now, instead of sooner or later? Why are they emphasizing these points, instead of something else?Listen to how it is said. People send signals about what they mean with their voices and body language that sometimes differ from the words they say. While going through the next points, think about someone whose real meaning you might sometimes miss, and see if any of these signals might come up. First, voices. When others speak, notice changes in their volume, pace, and tone. Second, body language. Notice gestures, eye contact, and facial expressions. Do these sync what they are saying, or do they tell a different story? Third, emotions. What is the person true feeling? Now you might not know for sure, but be considerate, open to understanding, and ask thoughtful questions.5.What's the writer's purpose of mentioning Evelyn Glennie?A.To give an example of wise words.B.To introduce a worldfamous musician.C.To help explain the meaning of listening.D.To encourage us to fight against disability.6.What can we learn from what Mark Twain said?A.It is important to have a good knowledge of English words.B.People should know words can be used in many different ways.C.English is a very complicated language with a large vocabulary.D.The slight difference between words may result in misunderstanding.7.What does the underlined word “sync”in the last paragraph probably mean?A.Match.B.Prove.C.Describe. They promise not to cheat, or more specifically, to sign up to an honor code in which they promise to stick to values of academic integrity (学术诚信). It means students at the wellknown US university have to promise not to cheat in exams.Brett Flehinger, a professor at Harvard, says students now write their own “personal response”to the honor code before starting term, repeat their promise when registering and then again before taking exams.Harvard's adoption of an honor code follows a widelyknown cheating event in 2012. On one exam paper, more than a hundred students were investigated and about 70 later faced punishment. An annual survey was conducted by the student newspaper, the HarvardCrimson. The survey, based on a sample of more than 70% of new students, also asked about cheating. It found 9% admitted to having cheated in an exam. There were others who had cheated in homework, academic work and other assignments. So will students be stopped from cheating by a promise?A study published in October by the US National Bureau of Economic Research found “strong evidence”of cheating from at least 10% of students. “It is not surprising that students cheat —they have enough reasons to do so, and the likelihood of getting caught is low,”concluded the study. “What is perhaps more surprising is that so little effort is devoted to catching cheating students.”Would an honor code make a difference?Sir Cary Cooper, a professor at Manchester Business School, says, “I don't think it actually stops the cheating that much. A university will have it because it gives specific moral guidance about what is incorrect behavior.”9.What's the main purpose of Harvard's honor code?A.To spread knowledge.B.To prevent students cheating in exams.C.To punish students cheating in exams.D.To introduce results of failing in the exams.10.What made Harvard's honor code appear?A.The survey by the HarvardCrimson.B.A lot of Harvard's students' suggestions.C.The influence from the other US universities.D.A number of Harvard's students' cheating in exams.11.What do we know about the new students of Harvard?A.Nobody admitted having cheated in exams.B.Some of them cheated in academic work.C.All of them cheated on homework.D.They didn't cheat in exams.12.What may be the best title for the text?A.Students at Harvard are learning to behave honestly in examsB.Harvard is working on the exam paper about cheatingC.Harvard forces students to follow the honor codeD.Students at Harvard are tired of cheating in examsDThere is a popular saying in the English language:“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”Well, that is not true. Unkind words, namecalling or even the so called “the silent treatment”can hurt children as much as being physically hit, sometimes even more so.A recent study of middle school children showed that verbal (言语的) abuse by other children can harm development in the brain. The study was a project of researchers at Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts. Researcher Martin Teicher and his team studied young adults, aged 18 to 25. These young men and women had not ever been treated in a cruel or violent way by their parents. The researchers asked the young people to rate their childhood exposure to verbalabuse from both parents and other children. Then the researchers performed imaging tests on the brains of the subjects. The images showed that the people who reported suffering verbal abuse from peers in middle school had underdeveloped connections between the left and right side of the brain. The two sides of the brain are connected by a large bundle of connecting fibers called the corpus callosum. This was the area that was underdeveloped. The middle school years are a time when these brain connections are developing. So, unkind, hurtful comments from children or adults during this period have the greatest effect. The researchers tested the mental and emotional condition of all the young people in the study. The tests showed that this same group of people had higher levels of fear, depression, anger and drug abuse than others in the study. The researchers published their findings online on the AmericanJournalofPsychiatry's website.Parents cannot control what other people say to their children, but they can prepare their children.13.Why does the author use the popular saying at the beginning?A.To show the power of words.B.To introduce an opposite view.C.To prove the author's argument.D.To show ancient people's wisdom.14.What will be discussed in the next paragraph?A.Comments on the findings.B.Approaches to further studies.C.Suggestions to parents.D.Different opinions on the matter.15.What is the main idea of the passage?A.The way we speak matters.B.Verbal violence should be stopped.C.Unkind words hurt the brain.D.Words are worse than sticks and stones.Ⅱ.阅读七选五Color is in everything we touch, taste, smell and feel.It evokes (唤起) emotion without any thought.__1__ We are all familiar with it, but do you know the following facts?Silver will save youlife. When buying a new car and finding yourself facing various choices, you can't think clearly.Your best choice is to go with silver.Silvercolored cars are least likely to be involved in a car accident.__2__ Another reason is the silver color's ability to have a look of cleanliness.__3__ Tough prisoners and crazy patients? British politeness rules, according to which confrontation(对抗) should be avoided, people either just do not complain,or sometimes bottle it up and then explode in an inappropriate outpouring of aggressive complaints. In fact, there is a TV programme which shows the British in typical situations where they would be perfectly justified(有正当理由的) in complaining, but they don’t.In one scene,a woman reads a newspaper over people’s shoulders and the people say nothing or look embarrassed. The British are also well-known for putting up with bad service everywhere from restaurants to airports and railway stations because the standard rules of behaviour say that it is bad to draw attention to yourself. This is why, when you travel on theTube in London and there is yet another delay, the passengers will look at each other, sigh, smile wearily and raise their eyes to heaven. They might even say,‘Huh!Typical!’ in a resigned tone of voice that says that there’s nothing that can be done about it.When complaints are made, they are made in an apologetic or a humorous tone of voice. In France,on the other hand, angry passengers might riot(闹事) and burn down the subway station if they had to put up with the poor service that the London Underground provides.Americans and other Europeans, who are much more direct and in-your-face than the British, often wonder why British people always say “sorry” or “excuse me”when they complain.“It’s like they’re apologizing for something that isn’t their fault,”they say. They are m issing the point.British people are not really sorry—it is because the word “sorry” actually works as a distancing mechanism(技巧).This is important in terms of negative politeness and not drawing attention to yourself. If you do not say “sorry”or use other distancing words like“could”,“would”,“might”,“possibly” and so on,you will be seen as rude.1.What does the underlined part “bottle it up” in Paragraph 1 mean?A.Put something into bottles.B.Not do anything dangerous.C.Cause problems by hesitating.D.Not allow emotions to be seen.2.The French tend to .A.tolerate bad serviceB.enjoy taking the subwayC.make a complaint humorouslyD.express their dissatisfaction directly3.When the British say “sorry”,they actually want to .A.try not to be rudeB.apologize sincerelyC.show their feelings directlyD.draw attention to themselves4.Which can be the best title for the text?A.How to complainplaining politelyC.Poor service in BritainD.Politeness rules across the worldBEnjoying a musical performance no longer requires a costly ticket or a trip to a theater. These days, musicians are performing in private homes,at haircutting shops,at airports...even on ferry boats.Musicians like house concerts. At music clubs, they often have to perform over loud conversation or deal with people who have had too much alcohol.People at house concerts are more focused on listening to the music.Just a few hours before the Bombadils started singing at the O' Hair Salon,Lindsay was cutting hair and Tamera was doing facials. Then, they moved chairs and microphones to create a small performance space. The Bombadils made music in the front part of the hair salon, near the hairdryers and makeup tables.“This is our first show at a hair salon,”Sarah Frank of the Bombadils told concertgoers at last week's performance.Frank said she and band members,Luke Fraser and Kaitlyn Raitz had a great time“interacting” with the audience.Concerts in people's homes,or small businesses such as O' Hair's,are becoming more popular, musicians say.“There is a more relaxed atmosphere,”said Domenic Cicala,a musician who opened up his O' Hair Salon to concerts.“People reall y get to know the artists.”At house concerts, people get time before and after concerts to meet the performers.Often, the hosts or guests will provide food and drink.“People really like listening to music in the living room of a friend,”said Matt Hart, with Aubrey Zoli making up the Local Strangers,a folkrock group based in Seattle. At many such concerts, the musicians do not need microphones.Yet,every word of their songs can be heard.1.Why do musicians like house concerts?A.Because private homes are easier to get to.B.Because people pay more attention to their music.C.Because they can do other things while performing.D.Because they don't have to bring their microphones.2.What impressed Sarah Frank most at her last week's performance?A.The small performance space.B.Her first show at a hair salon.C.Their interaction with the audience.D.The more relaxed atmosphere.3.How many music groups are Unit 4 Body language李仕才一、阅读理解。
How can you help kids cope with stress? Proper rest and goodnutrition can improve coping skills, so can good parenting. Make time foryour kids each day. Whether they need to talk with you or just be in thesame room with you, make yourself available.Even as kids get older, quality time is important. It’s really hard for some people to come home after a tiring day of work, get down on the floor, and play with their kids or just talk to them about their day—especially if they’ve had a stressful day themselves. But expressing interest in your kids shows that they’ re important to you.Help your child deal with stress by talking about what may be causing it. Together, you can come up with a few solutions. For example, he should cut back on after-school activities, spending more time talking with his parents or teachers, developing an exercise plan or keeping a journal. You can also help by predicting potentially stressful situations and preparing kids for them. For example, let a child know ahead of time, but not too far ahead of time, that a doctor’s appointment is coming up and talk about what will happen there. Keep in mind, though, that younger kids probably won’t need too much advance preparation. Too much information can cause more stress.Remember that some level of stress is normal. Let kids know that it’s OK to feel angry, scared, lonely or anxious and that other people share those feelings, too. When kids can’t or won’t discuss these problems, try talking about y our own concerns. This shows that you’re willing to handle tough topics and are available to talk with when they’re ready. If a child shows symptoms that concern you and is unwilling to talk, consult a counselor (顾问)or other mental health experts. Most pa rents have the skills to cope with their children’s stress. The time to seek professional attention is when any change in behavior continues to exist, when stress is causing serious anxiety, or when the behavior is causing significant problems in functioning at school or at home.【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文, 讲述的是如何帮助孩子处理压力的事情。

BIn the digital age, copying someone else's words is easy, but getting caught copying is even easier. When Melania Trump recently spoke at the Republicanconvention, she used some of the same words that Michelle Obama had used at the Democratic convention in 2008.Within hours, news spread around the world with the claim that Melania Trump had plagiarized Michelle Obama's speech. Students and teachers at universities in the US and elsewhere were shocked.5.____________What is plagiarism?6.____________ That person could also be called a “literary thief” or a “plagiarist”.Why is plagiarism a serious problem? It's our own worst fear to have that thing that we created stolen from us, and it's the same as our words.
