The 1st period ( Section A 1a—2c)

Teaching aims:

1. Learn to ask and answer questions about where things are.

2. Learn the names of some furniture and some personal things of students.

3. Grasp the prepositions: on, under, in.

Warming-up and revision

1. Greetings. Greet the class as usual.

2. Review the numbers and the plural forms of the nouns.

II. Presentation

1.Show a photo of Tommy and a school.

T: Tommy can’t find his schoolbag. So where is his schoolbag? Can you help him? But first we should go to Tommy’s room.

2.On the screen show a picture of Tommy’s room.

T: What can you see in Tommy’s room?

III. New words

1.Learn the new words on the first page of Unit 4by showing different pictures.

2.Word game: Show the pictures on the screen with no words. Get student to speak out their

names.

3.Ask Ss to finish 1a and check the answer.

4.Read all the new words together.

IV. Listening 1b

Let Ss look at the picture carefully.

Play the tape recording and ask Ss to number the things .

Listen again and check the answers.

V. Conversations

1.Get the students to look at their books. Learn the new sentences.

Where are my books? They’re on the sofa.

Where’s my pencil box? It’s in your schoolbag..

Where’s my computer game? It’s under your bed.

2. Practice: Look at some pictures and practice the similar conversations.

Practice with a picture with many things in both singular and plural forms.

3. Explain the prepositions: on, under, in.

VI. Listen 2a and 2b

Ask Ss to say the names of the things in 2a.

Have Ss look at the picture and find the places the things are.

Play the tape recording twice and check the answers.

VII. Pairwork

Make conversations about the things in the picture in 2b.

A: Are the keys on the sofa? B: No, they aren’t. They’re on the table. Homework:

1. Copy the new words for 3 times.

2. Review what we learned today, especially the usage of prepositions: on, under, in.

The 2nd period ( Section A 2d – 3c)

Teaching aims:

1. Learn to ask and answer questions about where things are.

2. Grasp the prepositions: on, under, in.

4.Look at some furniture and a set of flashing keys, and review the sentence pattern:

Where are…? They’re…

Ⅱ.Role-play

Have Ss read the conversation first by themselves, then choose two Ss to read it.

Explain the conversation and ask Ss to read by themselves.

Several minutes later, call some pairs to practice it.

Correct theirs pronunciation if they make mistakes.

Listen to the tape and repeat it.

Ⅲ. Grammar Focus

Point the sentences in the box, and let Ss read by themselves.
