These polymers are composed of a sequence of subunits or nucleotides so that the whole is usually termed a polynucleotide. The nucleic acids are of two main varieties, ribonucleic (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic (DNA). DNA is found primarily in the chromatin to the cell nucleus, whereas 90% of RNA is presented in the cell cytoplasm and 10% in the nucleolus. The two classes of nucleic acids are distinguished primary on basis of the five-carbon atom sugar of pentose present. Two general kinds of bases are found in all nucleic acids. One type is a derivative of the parent compound purine. Principle examples are guanine and adenine. The second class of bases found in all nucleic acid is derived from the parent compound pyrimidine.介绍核酸核酸是超高分子量聚阴离子分子。

Short Answer1.What is the difference between genotype and phenotype?Genotype refers to the set of genes an organism carries, while phenotype refers to the observable trts that result from the interaction between the organism’s genes and its environmen t.2.Describe the process of translation.Translation is the process by which the information encoded in mRNA is used to synthesize a protein. It occurs on ribosomes, which contn two subunits (the small subunit and the large subunit). The process begins with the small subunit binding to the mRNAmolecule; this initiates the process of recognition of the start codon (AUG). Once the start codon is identified, the ribosome will recruit the first tRNA (transfer RNA) molecule, which carries an amino acid. The amino acid is then added to the growing peptide chn as the ribosome moves along the mRNA molecule, one codon at a time. This continues until a stop codon is reached, at which point the ribosome releases the newly synthesized protein, and the mRNA molecule is degraded.3.What is the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryoticcells?Prokaryotic cells are simpler in structure than eukaryotic cells and do not have a nucleus or membrane-bound organelles. They are typically much smaller than eukaryotic cells. Eukaryotic cells, on the other hand, have a nucleus and many membrane-boundorganelles (such as mitochondria, chloroplasts, and theendoplasmic reticulum). They are generally larger and more complex than prokaryotic cells.3. True or False1.Bacteria are always harmful to humans.False2.The most diverse group of organisms on Earth is arthropods. The reasons go back into history. Thousands of years ago, people had no reason to divide their lives into hours and minutes. Their time was the movement of the sun, which created day and night, and the rhythm of the seasons. But, as human societies became more complex, this pleasant state of affairs –or so it appears to modern clock watchers –was a handicap to trade and effective government. Gradually, a 24-hour1. In other parts of the world, however, such different commodities as salt, shells, stones and cocoa beans were all used as ―money‖. They all offered advantages over the barter system (the direct exchange of goods), but none of them was perfect. Some were too heavy, some could not be divided into small enough parts, (how much of a cow would you need to buy a piece of cheese?) some were not permanent enough. The solution was money as we know it, that is, money in the form of coins. The invention of coins appears to have occurred almost simultaneously but quite independent in ancient Greece and in China in about 700 B.C. The reason why historians believe the development was independent is because of the notable differences in the two systems. In Greece, a natural alloy of gold and silver called ―electrum‖ occurred in rivers in nugget form. The first coins were taken out of these nuggets with a tool called a punch. In order to distinguish these coins from gold ornaments, a design, or ―type‖, to use the technical numismatic (钱币学)1. Why? Because not only do I have three dogs, but each of their characters is very different.Once a friend of mine came to visit me. As soon as he started to approach the front door the dogs immediately began to bark very loudly from inside the house, thanks to their highly efficient sense of smell. It was as if to announce to the host that the guest had arrived! When my friend heard the dogs’barks he turned pale with fright and hesitated, not knowing whether or not he should continue as far as the door. After a little while he plucked up the courage to knock on the door. When I opened the door, I just saw him jump back a few feet as if several big ferocious dogs were about to attack him. However, when he only saw three over-friendly little white dogs his face went purple! Then my friend cautiously entered the house. In the kitchen he very politely chose to sit in the oldest chair. The electric, electronic, and mechanical devices used for processing data are referred to as hardware. In addition to the computer itself, the term "hardware¡±refers to components called peripheral devices that expand the computer's input, output, and storage capabilities. Computer hardware in and of itself does not provide a particularly useful mind tool. To be useful, a computer requires a set of instructions, called software or a computer program, which tells the computer how to perform a particular task. Computers become even more effective when connected to other computers in a network so users can share information.2. Many schools and businesses have established e-mail privacy policies, which explain the condition under which you can and cannot expect your e-mail to remain private. These policies aresometimes displayed when the computer boots or a new user logs in. Court decisions, however, seem to support the notion that because an organization owns and operates an e-mail system, the e-mail message on that system are also the property of the organization. The individual who authors an e-mail message does not own all rights related to it. The company or school that supplies your e-mail account can, therefore, legally monitor your messages. You should use your e-mail account with the expectation that some of your mail will be read from time to time. Think of your e-mail as a postcard, rather than a letter, and save your controversial comments for face-to-face conversations.3£®Multitasking, in computer science, is a mode of operation offered by an operating system in which a computer works on more than one task at a time. There are several types of multitasking. Context switching is a very simple type of multitasking in which two or more applications are loaded at the same time but only the foreground application is given processing time; to activate a background task, the user must bring the window or screen containing that application to the front. In cooperative multitasking, background tasks are given processing time during idle times in the foreground task (such as when the application waits for a keystroke), and only if the application allows it. In time-slice multitasking, each task is given the microprocessor's attention for a fraction of a second. To maintain order, tasks are either assigned priority levels or processed in sequential order. Because the user's sense of time is much slower than the processing speed of the computer, time-slice multitasking operations seem to be simultaneous.4. One especially powerful feature of OOP (objected-oriented programming) languages is a property which is known as inheritance. Inheritance allows an object to take on the characteristics and functions of other objects to which it is functionally connected. Programmers connect objects by grouping them together in different classes and by grouping the classes into hierarchies. These classes and hierarchies allow programmers to define the characteristics and functions of objects without needing to repeat source code, the coded instructions in a program. Thus, using OOP languages can greatly reduce the time it takes for a programmer to write an application, and also reduce the size of the program. OOP languages are flexible and adaptable, so programs or parts of programs can be used for more than one task. Programs written with OOP languages are generally shorter in length and contain fewer bugs, or mistakes, than those written with non-OOP languages.5. In software, a bug is an error in coding or logic that causes a program to malfunction or to produce incorrect results. Minor bugs-for example, a cursor that does not behave as expected-can be inconvenient or frustrating, but not damaging to information. More severe bugs can cause a program to "hang¡± (stop responding to commands) and might leave the user with no alternative but to restart the program, losing any previous work that has not been saved. In either case, the programmer must find and correct the error by the process known as debugging. Because of the potential risk to important data, commercial application programs are tested and debugged as completely as possible before release. Minor bugs found after the program becomes available are corrected in the nest update; more severe bugs can sometimes be fixed with special software, called patches, that circumvents the problem or otherwise reduces its effects.²Î¿¼´ð°¸£º´ð°¸¼û½Ì²Äÿ¿ÎºóµÄ·ÒëÁ·Ï°´ð°¸¡£1:[论述题]请选择下列一个题目写一篇不低于150个词的英文短文.1.

The results showed that when the COD of influent was 3 500~5 000mg/L and the pH of influent was 6.5~7.5, COD and SS removal rates of the wastewater were over 97% and 93% through the combined technology, the optimal HRT of hydrolysis acidification was 8h, the optimal MLSS concentration of SBR was about3 500~4 000 mg/L, the times for inflow, aeration, settlement and outflow were 15 min, 7 h, 1 h and15 min, respectively. The experimental so demonstrated that the SS was removed mostly through the hydrolysis acidification process (more than 78% ), which can create a suitable condition for the subsequent SBR process and enhance the efficiency of the combined technology.Key words:syrup wastewater; hydrolysis acidification; SBR; COD; SSUnit 11.Put the following into Chinese∙life expectancy 预期寿命,平均寿命,耐用期限∙poverty-stricken 贫穷的,贫困的,贫乏的∙smog-laden air 阴霾天气,烟雾弥漫的天空,烟雾缭绕的空气∙global conditions 全球状况∙haves and have-nots 富人和穷人∙savanna 热带大草原、稀树平原∙predator 食肉动物,捕食者∙environmental disruptions 环境破坏2.Put the following into English∙农药pesticide∙化肥chemical fertilizer∙有机废物organic wastes∙微生物microorganism/microbe∙衰减attenuation∙阻滞的retardant/blocking∙稀释dilution∙添加剂additive∙合成塑料synthetic plastic∙再生regenerationUnit 21.
