Now, all their children have already grown up, have their own family, there’s nothing else the old couple have to worry about, all they wanted is to lead their own life free from all these years of unhappiness from their marriage, so both agree on a divorce.Lawyer was having a hard time trying to get the papers done, because he felt that after 40 years of marriage at the age of 70, he couldn’t understand why the old couple would still wants a divorce. While they were signing the papers, the wife told the husband. “I really love you, but I really can’t carry on anymore, I’m sorry.”“It’s OK, I understand.” said the husband. Looking at this, the lawyer suggested a dinner together, just three of them, wife thought, why not, since they are still going be friends. At the dining table, there was a silence of awkwardness. The first dish was roasted chicken, immediately, the old mantook the drumstick for the old lady. “Take this, it’s your favorite.”Looking at this, the lawyer t hought maybe there’s still a chance, but the wife was frowning when she answer. “This is always the problem, you always think so highly of yourself, never thought about how I feel, don’t you know that I hate drumsticks?”Little did she know that, over the years, the husband have been trying all ways to please her, little did she know that drumsticks was the husband’s favorite.Little did he know that she never thought he understand her at all, little did he know that she hates drumsticks even though all he wants is the best for her. That night, both of them couldn’t sleep, toss and turn, toss and turn. After hours, the old man couldn’t take it anymore, he knows that he still loves her, and he can’t carry on life without her, he wants her back, he wants to tell her, he is sorry, he wanted to tell her, “I love you.”He picks up the phone, started dialing her number. Ringing never stops. He never stop dialing. On the other side, she was sad, she couldn’t understand how come after all these years, he still doesn’t understand her at all, she loves him a lot, but she just can’t take it any- more. Phone’s ringing, she refuses to answer knowing that it’s him. “What’s the point of talking now that it’s over. I have asked for it and now. I want to keep it this way, if not I will lose face. “She thought. Phone still ringing. She has decided to pull out the cord.Little did she remember, he had heart problems. The next day, she received news that he had passed away. She rushed down to his apartment, saw his body, lying on thecouch still holding on to the phone. He had a heart attack when he was still trying to get thru her phone line.As sad as she could be. She will have to clear his belongings. When she was looking thru the drawers, she saw this insurance policy, dated from the day they got married, beneficiary is her. Together in that file there’s this note.“To my dearest wife, by the time you are reading this, I’m sure I’m no longer around, I bought this policy for you, though the amount is only $100k, I hope it will be able to help me continue my promise that I have made when we got married, I might not be around anymore, I want this amount of money to continue taking care of you, just like the way I will if I could have live longer. I want you to know I will always be around, by your side. I love you.”Tears flowed like river. When you love someone, let them know. You never know what will happen the next minute. Learn to build a life together. Learn to love each other for who they are,Not what they are.

One windy spring day,I observed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. Multicolored creations of varying shapes and sizes filled the skies like beautiful birds darting and dancing. As the strong winds gusted against the kites,a string kept them in check.Instead of blowing away with the wind, they arose against it to achieve great heights. They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and the cumbersome tail kept them in tow, facing upward and against the wind. As the kites struggled and trembled against the string, they seemed to say,“Let me go!Let me go!I want to be free!”Th ey soared beautifully even as they fought the restriction of the string. Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose. “Free at last,”it seemed to say. “Free to fly with the wind.”Yet freedom from restraint simply put it at the mercy of an unsympathetic breeze. It fluttered ungracefully to the ground and landed in a tangled mass of weeds and string against a dead bush. “Free at last” free to lie powerless in the dirt,to be blown helplessly along the ground, and to lodge lifeless against the first obstruction. How much like kites we sometimes are. The Heaven gives us adversity and restrictions, rules to follow from which we can grow and gain strength. Restraint is a necessary counterpart to the winds of opposition. Some of us tug at the rules so hard thatwe never soar to reach the heights we might have obtained. We keep part of the commandment and never rise high enough to get our tails off the ground.Let us each rise to the great heights, recognizing that some of the restraints that we may chafe under are actually the steadying force that helps us ascend and achieve.

On Happiness1Many people think that when they become rich and successful, happiness will naturally follow.Let me tell you that nothing is further from the truth. The world is full of very rich people who are miserable as if they were living in hell.To my mind,If you obtain wealth through luck or dishonest means, you will know that it is ill earned money .If you get your money by taking advantage of others or by hurting others, you will not be happy with it.You will think you are a base person. Long-term happiness is based on honesty, productive work, contribution, and self-esteem.Happiness is not an end; it is a process. It is a continuous process of honest, productive work which makes a real contribution to others and makes you feel you are a useful, worthy person. If you wait for certain things to happen and depend on external circumstances of life to make you happy, you will always feel unfulfilled. There will always be something missing.。

English: One of the most well-known classic English essays is "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift. In this satirical piece, Swift suggests that the impoverished Irish could alleviate their economic troubles by selling their children as food to the wealthy. Through this absurd proposal, Swift critiques the attitudes of the ruling class towards the poor and exposes the inhumane treatment of the Irish people by the British government. The essay is a scathing commentary on the economic and social injustices of the time, using dark humor and irony to bring attention to the dire conditions faced by the Irish population.

“Youth” seems to be fading away in my life, only leaving me some unforgettable and cherished memories. Something that we used to think would last forever in our lives, had actually vanished in a second before we realized it. Those who we used to deeply love or miss, have now become the most acquainted strangers. Our once pure and beautiful dream, is gradually fading away with time passing by……This is youth, which is indeed an endless cycle from familiarity to strangeness, and from strangeness to familiarity, until the curtain of our youth is closing off little by little, along with our childish fantasies.

The warmth from the stoves inside has melted some of the snow on the roofs. My attempts at establishing a friendly relationship with him were met with complete indifference. Even a “Good Morning Willar” received only an inau- dible grunt. I could see that his class- mates fared no better. Willard was strict- ly a loner who seemed to have no desire or need to break his barrier of silence.Shortly after the Thanksgiving holi- day, we received word of the annual Christmas collection of money for the less fortunate people in our school district.“Christmas is a season of giving,” I told my students. “There are a few students in the school who might not have a happy holiday season. By contributing to our Christmas collection, you will help buy food, clothing and toys for these needy people. We start the collection tomorrow.”When I called for the contributions the next day, I discovered that almost everyone had forgotten. Except for Willard P. Franklin. The boy dug deep into his pants pockets as he strolled up to my desk. Carefully, he dropped two quarters into the small container.“I don’t need no milk for lunch,” he mumbled. For a moment, just a mo- ment, he smiled. Then he turned and walked back to his desk. That night, after school, I took our meager contributions tothe school principal. I couldn’t help sharing the incident that had taken place.“I may be wrong, but I believe Willard might be getting might be getting ready to become a part of the world around him,” I told the principal.“Yes, I believe it sounds hopeful,” he nodded. “And I have a hunch we might do well to have him share a bit of his world with us. I just received a list of the poor families in our school who most need help through the Christmas collection. Here, take a look at it.”As I gazed down to read, I dis- covered Willard P. Franklin and his family were the top names on the list.

What is the significance of life? Is there any gauge to measure it? It would be very difficult, of course, trying to advance an absolute standard. However, the significance of one's existence can more or less be rated by examining his attitude toward life and work.
Since ancient times all people of accomplishment are very serious about their lives. While they are alive, even if there is only one day left to live, they try to work as hard as they can and learn as much as possible, never letting a single day slip by without any gain. This is true of the working people as well as of the great statesmen and great thinkers in our history.

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees. It is a matter of the will, quality of the imagination, vigor of theemotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody growsold merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self distrust blows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

I have been assured by a very knowing(会意的,知情的,心照不宣的)American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing(nourishing food 滋补食品), and wholesome (有益健康的)food, whether stewed(炖,煨), roasted(烘,烤,焙), baked(烘烤,焙), or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee (油焖原汁肉块)or a ragout(蔬菜炖肉).
I do therefore humbly offer it to public consideration that of the hundred and twenty thousand children already computed(计算,估算), twenty thousand may be reserved(保留,储备)for breed, whereof(关于什么,关于那个)only one-fourth part to be males; which is more than we allow to sheep, black cattle or swine(猪); and my reason is, that these children are seldom the fruits of marriage, a circumstance not much regarded by our savages(野蛮人,未开化的人), therefore one male will be sufficient to serve four females.
