1. Choose a magazine advertisingment for a medicine. Consider its textual and visual layout for the effectiveness in reaching the audience. What appeals are being used? How ethical are the appeals in your opinion?

In the advertisement of the medicine Maximum Strength Mucinex DM, the sentence is coherence and comprehensive. The effect of the medicine reflected by use of nominalization. It appeals to people that the effect of the medicine is fast and long-lasting. In my opinion, the use of relief in the sdvertisement strengthen the persuasion of the medicine. It sounds reasonabe for the advertisement to express their nedicine.

2. Consider the effectiveness of the same advertisement for patients from different small cultures—e.g., women versus men, young versus old, long-term resident of the country versus a new resident.

The effectiveness of the same advertisement or patients from different small cultures may different according to the possibility of their need. The old people may have more need of this medicine because their body condition are worse than the young. In addition, long-term resident of the country have a large need of the medcine, because they may suffered from the bad climate weather for a long time. While a new redident may not need it because he or she is uncertain of the effectness of the medcine.

3. Can you think of a medical episode in your life when miscommunication took place? Describe the situation, the problem, and any steps taken to resolve the situation. How would you have liked to be handled differently? Who or what was to blame for the misunderstanding?

It was about a week ago, I went to the doctor for my stomoache. I wanted to know why I was suffered the illness. But the doctor just let me have the ultrasonic inspection and then gave me the leaflet. My intuiation tells me that I should see a doctor who is good at traditional Chinese medcine. Then I resolve this problem thoroghly by having traditional Chinese medcine several days.

In my opinion, the reading ability is one important component between the doctor and the patient. For effective communication, language competence or language grammar and vocabulary should be constucted especially in the intercultural situation. Some effevtive strategies should also be used to guarantee the understanding in the process of communication.
