You won't say something you regret. You make sound decisions. You think twice. You don't act rashly. Next, a high E.Q. helps you understand yourself. You know what you want. You know what is good for you. You can set realistic goals. You can avoid distractions. You can easily succeed. You are good to yourself. You take care of yourself. A good E.Q. makes you independent.

In addition, a high E.Q. also helps you understand others. You know how they are feeling. You can guess what they're thinking. You don't offend others. You think of others. You become more understanding. It's easy for you to be polite. You become a considerate friend. It makes you more welcome.

32. How to Be a Good Listener

Welcome, dear audience: I hope you can hear me. I hope you are listening carefully now. Good listening is essential. It's a skill you must master. It's a requirement for success. Please listen to learn better. Please learn to listen better. That's the theme of my speech today.

Good listening is so important. It's a tremendous asset. It's a secret weapon. Good listeners get ahead. They move straight to the top. They excel in school, work and life. They are efficient learners. They are better communicators. They have better relationships, too.

However, most of us are poor listeners．Our minds tend to wander and go astray. We often hear but we don’t listen．Hearing is just receiving sounds．Listening is absorbing and processing information．There’s a world of difference between the two．We often appear to be paying attention．But in fact we are just faking it．Therefore，we miss valuable advice．

Always try to be a better listener. Try to overcome poor habits．Learn to resist distractions．You must take listening seriously. Realize it’s an active process．Realize it’s never passive like watching TV. It takes practice to improve．It requires effort and attention．It demands that you make sense of what you hear.

Concentration is the key. Concentrate on the message. Just focus and follow along. Be patient
