(The third period)
Teaching objectives:
The sounds and words /Λ/ sun cut fun mother son month

Tape recorder, picture cards, regalia (scissors, calendar…)
Teaching procedure:
1. Warm up:
④Songs ( What do you want to do?)
⑤Free talk with the class.
2. Revision:
①Ask some Ss to recite the conversation.
②Dictate the new words.
3. Presentation
(Activity)
Give Ss time to read the passage silently.
Ask some Ss to read the sentences aloud.
T: Now, look at the questions. (S1’s name), can you read question A? [S1: What’s Jenny’s aunt’s name?]
T: What’s the answer? [Ss: Her name’s Sally.]
T: Now, answer the rest.
Continue with the rest of the questions.
Walk around the classroom to check Ss’ writing.

(Sounds and Words)
Bring in a cap and a cup. (Hold up a cap.) Repeat. Cap. [Ss: Cap]
T: Today we practice the sound /Λ/. It’s the sound in the word “cup”. Look at my mouth and repeat after me.
Show the mouth and make sure the lips are relaxed and slightly parted.
T: /Λ/. [Ss: /Λ/]
Have Ss look at the picture on the page.
Play the tape and have Ss point to each word as the tape says it.
T: Let’s listen again and this time repeat.
Have Ss repeat after the tape.
After enough practice, point to the pictures randomly and have Ss say the word.
Point out that the sound can be made by the letters u or o.
Part ②)
①Have Ss look at the sentences.
②T: I’ll read the sentences. When you hear the sound /Λ/, circle the word.
③Read out the five sentences on the page and have Ss circle the word that the sound /Λ/.
④T: Now let’s practice the sound in the sentences.
⑤Read out the sentences and have Ss repeat.
⑥Give Ss some time to practice on their own.
⑦Ask individual Ss to read the sentences aloud.
⑧When Ss are used to the sound in the sentences, have them read the sentences quickly like tongue twisters.
⑨Play the tape again, pausing after each sentence to let the Ss repeat.
