Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. It’s my great honor to be here sharing my teaching ideas with you. I’m Jiang Yan from Central School of Lian Bin. I’m going to talk about page 47 and page 48, from 1a to 4b, Section B, Unit 6, Book 4, Go for it!
I. Status and function of teaching material
First of all, I’d like to say something about the status and function of teaching material.
The topic of this unit is about hobbies. In this unit students learn to talk about How long you have been doing things.
And because the topic is very interesting and practical, it is useful and helpful for students to raise the learning interests of them.
Section B introduces new vocabulary while recycling the target language presented in Section A. In this period all activities give students a chance to remember more vocabulary words. And students can also have an oral practice using the target language. Students can improve their reading skill by doing Activity 3a. Activity 3b provides students a chance to practice writing an e-mail message about hobbies. Activities 4a and 4b let students practice their speaking and listening skills in groups.
II. The students
Secondly I’d like to analyze the students.
Students of this grade are really active. In fact, they are anxious to cooperate, compete and show themselves. However, they also need further improving. So it is the best time to help them make clear some confusional expressions in this unit. They may be confused about “How long have you been…?”and “How long did you …?”As a teacher, we can assist them to catch the difference. Though they are eager to improve their abilities, they are lack of confidence. They dare not to stand up and speak in class. Therefore giving a model may be a good way to let them open their mouths, and giving them more chances is necessary.
III. Teaching and learning methods.
As for the teaching and learning methods, in this lesson I’ll mainly use the task-based language teaching. Present the tasks by making a context with the help of the pictures, the multi-media and my gestures. In order to help students finish the tasks effectively, I’ll design activities as much as possible, such as a song, an interview, a guessing game and a memory game. And I’ll **municative language teaching as well. I’ll set up a real situation, in this way, the students can say in pairs or in groups, they can say freely and needn’t worrying about making mistakes. I’ll try all my best to provide them more chances to practice English.
Besides, it’s a good idea for me to try a new teaching method ---- 5P teaching modes in this period. There are five parts belong to it, they are preparation, presentation, practice, production and progress.
