The Similarities and Differences among Works of Byron and Shelley.

In the 19th century,there are two prominent romantic poet,Byron and Shelley.Growing up with the influence of humanism,liberal democracy thought,they have created many great works which are spreading in later generations.However,as romantic poet,Byron and Shelley have different style in creating for the differences in personal experiences and family background.As a result,they two finally have their strong point in different aspects and get their own readers.

The Similarities:

1.Same mindset and theme.

Both Byron and Shelley use their poetry as a weapon to satirize and criticize the dark society,also praise freedom and liberation.

2.Same style.

Poetries from Byron and Shelley both have broad background,magnificent imagination and tremendous momentum.

The Differences:

1.Different writing stlye.

In Byron’s poetry,there are elegant poems of nine lines and also colloquial pomes of Italian eight lines which can suit both refined and popular tastes.While Shelley always put philosophy into his poetries.Emphasizing the combination of emotion and philosophy,which makes his poem difficult to understand.

2.Different poem character.

Byron often expresses his dissatisfaction and hostile to the authority and the society in his poems,which can reflect out his characters:conceit and inferiority.On the contrary,Shelley’s poetry tend to praise better tomorrow,which is full of optimism.

3.Different poem image.

In Byron’s work, most of the heroes are opposite to the society,they are proud and lonely and have no support from the people.But in Shelley’s poetry they tnd to be much more simple:optimistic,sticking to their faith and finally get victory.
