Be aware of the location of radiators, cookers, open fires etc.Do not cover the slots and openings on the back or top of the cabinet as the monitor requires ventilation. The monitor should be located in a well-ventilatedroom to prevent the possibility of overheating.Do not allow sharp objects such as knives, pens, or pencils near the screen. If such objects touch the screen, the LCD panel will be permanently scratched.When cleaning this monitor, disconnect it from the electric socket to avoid any danger of electrocution. A soft, lint-free cloth should be used to clean theoutside of the monitor. A cloth very slightly moistened with a mild detergentsolution will clean stubborn stains. Keep liquids away from the display screen,including sprays. Do not spray liquid directly - it is best to lightly spray on to acloth and wipe. If liquid gets inside the monitor it can cause electrical shockand/or damage to the unit.If you encounter a problem, please check the "Troubleshooting" section first. If this does not resolve the problem do not attempt to repair the monitor by yourself;opening or removing covers can lead to injury or death through electrocutionamong other hazards. Please contact a qualified engineer if you find thetroubleshooting section does not help.SPECIAL NOTES ON LCD MONITORSThe following symptoms are normal with LCD monitor and do not indicate a problem. NOTES•Due to the nature of the fluorescent light, the screen may flicker during initial use. Turn off the Power Switch and then turn it on again to make sure the flicker disappears. •You may find slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the desktop pattern you use.•The LCD screen has effective pixels of 99.99% or more. It may include blemishes of0.01% or less such as a missing pixel or a pixel lit all of the time.•Due to the nature of the LCD screen, an afterimage of the previous screen may remain after switching the image, when the same image is displayed for hours. Position the monitor on top of the stand.2. Connect the stand into the neck of the monitoralong the track.Detaching the MonitorIf you need to repackage the monitor, please separate the monitor and base, and restore them to the carton. To detach the monitor:1. Unplug the AC power cord to make sure the power is off.2. Pull the 4 hooks on bottom side of the base and hold.3. Separate the monitor and base and put them into carton.ImportantFirst, find a clean, flat surface to place the monitor after removing it from the stand. Place a clean dry cloth under the monitor to protect it further. Pull the monitor slightly up and away from the stand.Adjusting the Viewing AngleThe viewing angle of the monitor ranges from -5°~20°.Connecting the DevicesCaution:Make sure that the computer and the monitor are both disconnected from the power supply.Power Code Attach the monitor to the power cord which should then be insertedinto a properly grounded electric socket.VGA Cable Connect the signal cable to the VGA input socket of the monitor , andconnect the signal cable to the VGA output socket of the graphics cardon the computer. Then tighten the thumbscrews on the connector.WARNING: The D-Sub 15 pin plug of the VGA cable is trapezoid in shape. Make surethe shape of the plug matches the shape of the socket it is inserted into,and that none of the pins are bent or otherwise damaged.Switching the PowerFirst, switch the power on to the monitor, then switch the power on to the computer. When you see the LED on the power button go green, this indicates the computer is ready for use. Allow about 10 seconds for the video signal to appear. If you do not see the green light on the power button or a video signal, check the connections.Adjusting display settingsOSD optionsPlease refer to "External Controls" on Page 6. To adjust the OSD settings: 1. Press the MENU button to open the OSD menu. Press again to enter a selection of 10functions on OSD.2. Use the buttons marked < or >, to highlight a control, then adjust the control to the desiredlevel.3. When you have finished making all selections, press the AUTO button to exit the OSD.OSD MenuContrast:This adjusts dark and light shades of color relative to each other to achieve a comfortable contrast. Brightness:This adjusts the brightness of the picture on the screen.Focus:This removes any horizontal distortion and makes the picture clear and sharp. Clock:If there are any vertical stripes seen on the background of the screen this renders them less noticeable by minimizing their size. It also changes the size of the horizontal screen.H-Position:This adjusts the horizontal. TheSupercharger is a precision instrument designed to charge and analyze NICKEL-CADMIUM, LEAD-ACID and other rechargeable batteries exactly as recommended by the batterymanufacturers.The simple to set controls plus the condensed operating procedure found on the front panelmakes the Supercharger a very easy to operate CHARGER/ANALYZER, which combined with easy to read CURRENT, VOLTAGE, TIME and STATUS indicators, makes it also a verysimple unit to monitor.The Supercharger is also designed for speed, for it can charge two batteries, (actually, anynumber of batteries where the total number of cells is 50 or less), at maximum currents, and it can also discharge two batteries at reduced currents, or one battery (25 cells or less) atmaximum current.The Supercharger also provides a Voltage Control enhancement that allows the Charger-Analyzer, originally designed for Constant Current operation on Nickel-Cadmium batteries to also be able to handle Lead-Acid and other type of rechargeable batteries, where the endvoltage is a more reliable indicator of the state of charge (as opposed to Nickel-Cadmiumbatteries).Dependability is another great plus of the Supercharger. 100% SOLID STATE circuitryrequires no scheduled maintenance. No relay contacts to inspect and clean. No high currentcarrying contacts to arc and burn. A simple performance verification procedure is all it takes to determine if the instrument requires re-calibration or repair.This instrument is also protected against certain internal performance deviations andprogramming errors, plus it is also designed to sense certain battery abnormalities to protect the instrument and battery from possible damage. In the event that any malfunction takes place,VISUAL and AUDIBLE indicators will turn on, alerting the operator and preventing anyfurther operation of the unit.The Supercharger Battery Charger-Analyzer System is comprised of the Charger-Analyzer, the Temp-plate, the Battery Cable and several accessories.The Charger-Analyzer is basically a precision programmable constant current source (forcharge) and a programmable constant current sink (for discharge) combined with voltage and temperature sensing circuits for total battery monitoring.The specially designed circuitry provides a performance not achieved by any of the olderconventional battery charging methods. The Supercharger will deliver current into a shortcircuit or a battery or combination of batteries totaling 50 cells, within ±1% of the programmed value, independent of line voltage variations (within ±10% of the nominal line voltage).The control circuitry of the Charger-Analyzer consists of a CONTROL SWITCH, a CLOCK, a TIMER, a CURRENT CONTROL, a SYSTEM MONITOR, a POWER REGULATOR and a VOLTAGE CONTROL CIRCUIT. See Figure 1The CONTROL SWITCH receives the function commands from the function selector switch on the front panel and outputs control signals to the rest of the circuit boards as well as to the charge SCR'S and discharge transistors.The TIMER provides all the required timing functions related to the charge and discharge durations. Digital time and speed selectors provide the external inputs, while the four digit readout of the CLOCK provides the elapsed time display.The CURRENT CONTROL interprets the programmed current values and controls the angle of firing of two SCR's to maintain a constant current in accordance to the feedback received from a precision shunt.Display of current is provided by an independent Digital Ammeter that uses the same shunt used by the CURRENT CONTROL circuit.Inputs from the TIMER, the SYSTEM MONITOR and the CONTROL SWITCH, determine the operating mode of the CURRENT CONTROL circuit.The SYSTEM MONITOR provides several safeguarding functions. It compares the measured current against the programmed value and if they differ by more than one ampere, operation is halted and a current malfunction is indicated.It measures the battery voltage and compares it with the programmed number of cells. From there, it determines during charge if the total voltage exceeds the equivalent of 1.75 V per cell, indicating an Overvoltage condition, or during discharge if the total voltage is below the equivalent of 1 volt per cell, indicating the end of the discharge cycle.It checks for polarity reversal at voltages as low as .25V, as well as an absolute Overvoltage at 85 volts, both generating a voltage malfunction indication that prevents any further operation of the unit.It measures the temperature of the discharge heat dissipators and signals an overheat malfunction if the internal temperature exceeds 90o C, as it could be caused by a fan failure or an installation with restricted air flow. It also monitors the temperature of the batteries being charged (via the TEMP-PLATE) and terminates the charge, indicating battery Overtemp, in the event of battery overheating that may lead to thermal runaway.The POWER REGULATOR provides all regulated voltages and power amplification as required by the various circuits.The VOLTAGE CONTROL CIRCUIT provides the functions that regulate the charging current in the Constant Voltage (float) mode and in the Peak Voltage mode, transfers from Main to Topping charge on a voltage peak or ends charging on a voltage peak (new feature).The DIGITAL VOLTMETER provides internal battery voltage readings with resolutions of 0.1V and 0.01V, while a selectable external position allows single cell measurements to a resolution of 0.001V.Additional protection is provided by a high speed current limiter for the discharge transistor bank, a slow speed current limiter for the charge circuit and a magnetic circuit breaker capable of tripping under fast high current overload conditions.Figure 1 - Block Diagram2. Specifically, DVC’s enable application to conveniently acquire distributed resources and dynamically configured optical circuits, and use them as a private resource context to manage both application functionality and performance. Distributed Virtual Computer (DVC)2.1 Motivation and Key ConceptsThe emergence of configurable optical networks enables a high-performance Grid, called the Lambda-Grid, where widely-dispersed resources are tightly coupled over dynamically configured, high-speed optical circuits. Such infrastructure provides unprecedented high computing power and high-quality network service, suitable for emerging large-scale distributed applications. However, building these applications is difficult due to many reasons: •Identifying and selecting end and network resources in the system requires understanding ofthe complex software and hardware infrastructures,•Utilizing resources in wide-area networks involves management of cross-organization security, heterogeneous resource capabilities and system failures,•Employing configurable networks requires management of multi-domain routing, signaling and dynamic resource naming, and•Achieving high and robust network performance involves the use of novel exotic transport protocolsTo simplify use and management of distributed resources for applications, our approach is to build a resource abstraction, the Distributed Virtual Computer (DVC), which encapsulates the complexities of underlying software and hardware infrastructures, while presenting to applications a simplified interface.Figure 1. DVC is a virtual collection of machines and dedicated optical connections used like aphysically secure, localized LAN/SAN environmentAs shown in Figure 1, a DVC is a middleware-enabled, configurable collection of Grid and communication resources usable by applications to achieve simple, reliable and high-performance execution. It provides a powerful set of abstractions that shields the complexities of underlying infrastructures and presents them a simple view of tightly-coupled local clusters instead of a complex distributed environment. Within a DVC, applications can have direct, secure, reliable and high-performance access to remote resources (i.e., SAN-like use across geographically distributed sites).Figure 2. As shown in Figure 2, DVC consists of a set of high-level services and interfaces for resource management and communication. Through these interfaces, the user can perform a variety of tasks, including:Integrated Resource/Network Management: The user can create and configure a private DVC which is a distributed set of end resources (computers, storage and virtualization) and dynamically configured networks. These resources can be dynamically allocated and released.Resource Configuration Planning: The user describes his resource needs in the form of an integrated resource and network configuration specification. The DVC resource configuration planner (resource selector) discovers available resources and returns aphysical resource configuration that matches that specification.Virtual Resource Name and Group Management: To aid integration into existing networks and application flexibility, DVC’s provide a new resource namespace (hostnames and IP addresses). Communication amongst these names is implicitly tied to the dynamically configured optical resources. Resources can also be identified as groups, and named providing easy group-based management.Unified Communication Interface:To provide convenient, uniform access to the novel transport protocols (i.e., GTP, UDT) needed to deliver high performance, we incorporatea simple communication interface that leverages the DVC namespace.Job Management: Distributed jobs can be launched to run on the DVC resources. The DVC supports the cancellation and status inquiry of the remote job processes.DVC’s allow applications to describe, acquire and configure a set of distributed resources and private networks for their simple and high-performance execution. As shown in Figure 3, to create a DVC, an application specifies its end and communication resource needs and presents them to the DVC resource management service. Subsequently, the service identifies the resource candidates and computes a physical resource configuration (end resources + networks) that matches all the requirements. If satisfied, the chosen configuration is realized transparently by a set of cooperating services that negotiate with Grid resource managers and network providers. The allocated resources are bound into a newly created DVC with configurable trust relationships, communication, resource namespace, and performance control.3. For GTK4.0, you must run ‘c o n f i g u r e’ with the option ‘–e n a b l e-p r e w s m d s’.In addition to the basic installation, the DVC requires the configuration of the following Globus components:3.3.1 Configuring GSI and Getting User CertificateFor base security infrastructure, the DVC relies on the Globus’ Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI) which requires the setup of a Certificate Authority (CA) and the creation of global user accounts (or otherwise use existing ones). Please refer to the Globus Toolkit’s configuration guide page at /toolkit/docs/3.2/installation/install_config.html for details.3.3.2 Setting up GRAM and FTP serversThe DVC requires the setup of two pre-WS Globus components: specifically, GRAM and GridFTP servers. It is recommended that pre-WS GRAM server and GridFTP server are started up on the default ports 2119 and 2811, respectively.3.3.3 Finalizing Globus ConfigurationAfter Globus installation, set the environment variable GLOBUS_LOCATION to the locationof the installed GTK package.
