Occur

occur vi、发生;出现;存在。常见结构有:

sth、occurs to sb、= sth、strikes sb、= sth、comes to sb、某人想起某事

It occurs to sb、to do sth、

某人想起做某事

It occurs to sb、that-clause = It strikes sb、that-clause 某人想起某事

[例句] The disease occurs most frequently in rural areas、这种病常见于农村地区。

A good idea occurred to him when he was asked to solve the problem、

当被叫到解决这个问题的时候,她突然想到一个好主意。

I suppose it never occurred to you to phone the police、我想您压根儿就没想到给警察打电话吧。

It occurred to her that she should adopt the homeless child、她突然想到她应该收养这个无家可归的孩子。

[辨析] occur; happen; take place

※happen与occur都可以表示“偶然发生”,但occur还可以表示“按计划发生”。如:

The accident happened / occurred yesterday、

事故就是昨天发生的。

His birthday occurs on 15th October、

她的生日就是10月15日。

※take place 通常表示计划、安排之内的“发生”,偶尔也表示计划、安排之外的发生。如:

The dance will take place on Saturday night、舞会将于星期六晚上举行。

The accident took place only a block from his home、

事故就发生在离她家一个街区的地方。

※此外,happen to do sth、指“碰巧干某事”。sth、happens to sb、指“某人发生了某事”。如:

He happened to be chasing Jack when the teacher came in、

当老师进来的时候她碰巧在追赶Jack、
