浙江省高考英语考点突破(一)阅读理解(含解析)

(一)阅读理解Passage 1(2013浙江自选模块) 阅读下面短文,并根据短文后的要求答题。

Our cultural backgrounds influence how we make choices in nearly every area of our lives. From early on,members of individualist societies are taught the specialimportance of personal choice. As soon as children can talk,or perhaps as soon asthey can accurately point, they are asked,“Which one of these would you like?”By the age of four,he may well be expected to both understand and respond to thechallenging question,“What do you want to be when you grow up?”From this children learn that they should be able to figure out what they like and dislike, what willmake them happy and what won’t.1.By contrast, members of collectivist societies place greater emphasis onduty.Children are often told,“If you’re a good child, you’ll do what your parents tell you.”2. As you grow older, instead of being asked what you want, you may be asked,“How will you take care of your parents’ needs and wants? How will you make them proud?”It is believed that your parents, and elders in general, will show you the right way to live your life so that you will be protected from a costlymistake.3. Get a piece of paper, and on the front write down all the aspects ofyour life in which you like having choice. On the back, list all the aspects in which you would prefer not to have choice,or to have someone else choose for you.Take afew extra minutes to make sure youhaven’t left anything out. When I had 100 American and Japanese college students do this exercise, the front sides of the Americans’ pages were often completely filled with answers such as“my job,”“where I live,”and“who I vote for.”In contrast, the backs, without exception, were either completely blank or contained only a single item, most commonly “when I die” or “when my loved ones die.”The Japanese showed a very different pattern of results, with not a single one wishing to have choice all or nearly allof the time.4. Comparing responses between the two,Americans desired personal choice in four times as many domains of life as did the Japanese.

1.The Internet is redrawing the media landscape and will be for decades to come, but traditional media will not be left out of the picture, two journalism professors of University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa argued. Ed Mullins, chairman of the Journalism Department, and Jim Stovall, the founder of Dateline Alabama? the new website of the College of Communication and Information Sciences, agree that the future of the web is still a mystery, but argue that, in the near future, it will serve more as a helpmate to traditional media.“Nobody knows where the web is taking us, but when it comes to journalism, old media will be dominant players in the new media game, ” Mullins believes. “Some rating services report that most Americans go to sites operated by old-line media when looking for news on the web. ”Just as national old media dominate the web at that level, local old media run mostly by newspapers and, to a lesser degree, by television stations, dominate those markets. Is there a pattern here? Yes, say Mullins and Stovall. “At least in the first decade of the web, newspaper companies dominate web journalism, ” Mullins explains. “Why? They specialize in news, and that gives them an advantage. What most readers go to websites for are news and e-mail, a form of person-to- person news, especially in the form of chatting. ”The reason for newspapers’ dominance in web journalism, Stovall points out, is that they have the biggest investment in news. “The Birmingham News, for example, with about 175 positions, has more journalists on its payroll than all of the state’s broadcast, cable, and web—only entities combined. ”(1) What role does the Internet play in journalism according to Paragraph 1?A. If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know how the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the formation again, so they did not try to remember it.In another experiment, the researchers gave facts to remember, and told them where to find the formation on the computer. The information was in a specify computer folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder location (位置)better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the4/ 14information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory (交互记忆).According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories;that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. We need a better way to access information.4.Newspapers are one method of bringing the news to the public. Reporters, photographers, correspondents, and editors are some of the people who create newspapers. They are known as journalists.Reporters are journalists who go out and get the news. They attend meetings.5/ 14They cover events such as court cases, plays, and sporting events. They interview people to get their views about what is going on. Reporters must be able to write a story quickly so as to meet a deadline. People do not want to read old news. They want to know what is going on as soon as it happens. Reporters sometimes phone or email their notes and quotations (引用语) to the paper from the scene. A reporter in the office then writes the story.A “stringer” is a parttime reporter who works when called upon. A fire might break out in one part of town. 新高考适用2023版高考英语二轮总复习第1部分阅读能力突破篇专题1阅读理解第4讲主旨大意题

第一部分专题一第4讲A(2022·山东省泰安市高三一模)Imagine that one day you live in a highly immersive (身临其境) virtual world. You can go to a virtual concert, take a trip online, view or create artworks and try on or buy digital clothing.Amid a pandemic like COVID-19, instead of seeing teachers and classmates on a video call screen, you could join them in a virtual classroom. This may help you understand the concept, metaverse. The term metaverse refers to a shared virtual 3D world in which people can access via the Internet.Currently, most virtual spaces look more like the inside of a video game than real life. However, metaverseʼs made the digital spaces more realistic by the use of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR, 增强现实).Metaverse was first used in Neal Stephensonʼs novel SnowCrash in 1992.The novel is about Hiro, a pizza delivery man by day and a VR superhero by night who lives in an online universe called The Metaverse.“He is in a computer-generated universe that his computer is drawing onto his glasses and pulling into his earphones,” the novel says of the city that everyone pops into in VR.The idea rings in many other works, for example, in ReadyPlayerOne directed by Steven Spielberg. In recent years, metaverse has become the latest popular word to capture the tech industryʼs imagination so much that one of the best-known Internet platforms is renamed to embrace the futuristic idea—Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that he changed his companyʼs name to Meta.Tech companies are also dedicated to exploring metaverse-related products.Facebook has launched meeting software for companies, called Horizon Workrooms, to use with VR headsets. The headsets cost $300 or more, putting the metaverseʼs most cutting-edge (尖端的) experiences out of reach for many. For users who can afford it, they can enter the virtual worlds created by different companies.Fans of metaverse see it as the next stage in the development of the Internet. So, do you expect the coming of metaverse?1.What can be inferred about metaverse?________A.It is a video game like real life.B.It is a parallel universe imagined by scientists.C.It gives us a real life in a virtual world.D.It can protect yourself from a pandemic.2.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?________A.The fiction SnowCrash.B.The origin of metaverse.C.A VR superhero.D.The film ReadyPlayerOne.3.Why did Facebook CEO use Meta as his companyʼs name?________A.Metaverse has become more popular.B.He lives in a virtual world every day.C.Facebook is the best-known Internet platform.D.He has accepted the idea of metaverse.4.What can we know from the text about VR headsets?________A.They are very cheap for most of us.B.Their users can experience a virtual world.C.Horizon Workroom donʼt need them at all.D.They will bring us into the final stage of the Internet.【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了什么是虚拟空间(metaverse)、其产生的由来及运用。

This year's attempt to influence the skies took place in Sao Pablo by a party's official sponsor, Skoal, a Brazilian beer brand. "The fun stops when it rains," says Pedro Ada my, Skoal's marketing director. So do beer sales. An airplane painted with Skoal's logo sprayed (喷洒) water droplets into clouds to make rain fall before the clouds reached the city. According to its YouTube video that has been viewed 12 million times, it is a "mission worthy of science fiction".Whether it's science or fiction is up for debate. The use of cloud-seeding to increase rainfall dates back to the 1940s. But the United States government stopped funding it in the 1980s due to a lack of" scientific proof of the effectiveness of intentional weather change", according to the National Research Council. A new paper based on experiments in Idaho found that seeding clouds with silver iodide increased snowfall on three occasions, but the authors say that more research is needed to find out if it can reliably promote precipitation (降水), Pablo Tartar, a Brazilian physicist, says flatly that cloud-seeding is "useless".Still, governments and firms in many countries use the technology. Sao Pablo's water company has signed million dollar contracts with ModClima to bring rain, most recently during a drought in 2014-15. Although cloud-seeding normally uses a chemical such as silver iodide to provide a surface around which water or ice droplets form, ModClima says it has invented an "experimental" method that uses water alone.Carnival-goers cheered when the first two days were cloudy but dry. Many shared Skol's video. But at around 5pm on February 24th, the sky darkened and rain poured down. Celebrants at one block party left the Skol stands and rushed to buy umbrellas and plastic rain capes.2.Why did Skol support cloud-seeding?A.To increase rainfall.B.To promote its beer sales.C.To provide evidence for a research.D.To highlight the theme of the Carnival.3.Which is Artaxo's attitude toward cloud-seeding?A.Objective.B.Doubtful.C.Conservative.D.Negative.4.Why was the US government no longer in favor of cloud-seeding?A.Its outcome couldn't be proved.B.It worked in limited situations.C.It needed more field researches.D.It used an un-ecofriendly chemical.5.What is the best title of the text?A.Could rain ruin fun?B.How do we change weather?C.Could we rely on intentional rain?D.How do we avoid cloud-seeding pollution?6.

Here are examples of the things that a well- educated person does or does not do .If you visit a Chinese family you should knock at the door first . When the door opens , you will not move before the host says “Come in, please .” After you enter the room , you should not sit down until the host asks you to take a seat . When a cup of tea is put on a tea table before you or sent to your hand , you will say , “Thank you .” And receive it with two hands , not one hand , or they will think you are ill-mannered . Before entering a house in Japan , it is good manners to take off your shoes . In European countries , even though shoes sometimes become very dirty , this is not done . In a Malay house , a guest never finishes the food on the table . He leaves a little to show that he has had enough . In England , a guest always finishes a drink or the food to show that he had enjoyed it . This will make the host , especially the hostess pleasant .76. China 77. with two hands 78. with one hand79. Manyof them , for gentlemen only ,were made of iron ,highly decorated and often in the shape of Indian or Greek temples .A little later ,in the 1880s ,more solid structures of brick or stone were being built ,with rooms for ladies and gentlemen. Some of these looked like cottages or medieval(中世纪)castles.Public drinking fountains are to be found everywhere . Most of them were built in the nineteenth century and some are very grand .The old type of drinking fountain was not very hygienic(卫生的).It usually had an iron drinking cup ,fixed to a chain ,and everyone used it .Firstly ,they provided people with pure water to drink ,at a time when much of the drinking water available ,especially from wells and pumps ,was dangerous to health .Secondly ,they were memorials to local residents .Finally ,they were intended to persuade people to drink water ,instead of beer or spirits.76.Questions 77.Look like? 78.Bus shelters 79.from bad weather 80.Attractive 81.in the 1870s 82.iron, brick, stone 83.Drinking fountains 84.nineteenth century 85.very grand3.Most Americans have a city they like best. Over the years, American songwriters have described these feelings in music. More songs have been written about America's biggest city, New York, than about any other city. Many others dream about leaving their small towns to go there. They want to become rich and famous. Frank Sinatra sings about this dream in the most popular song written about New York.Almost three-million people live in the middle western city of Chicago, Illinois. It is now America's third largest city. It used to be the second largest city. So, of course, it needed its own song. Judy Garland sings the song, "Chicago, Chicago. Not everyone, however, loves Los Angeles. Some people do not like all the big roads around the city. They like living in a smaller place. A place like San Jose, California. Kids dressed in costumes, neighbors giving out candy! It is just an amazing holiday! This year I decided to be a black cat.The black cat is a sign of bad luck, but is also a sign of Halloween. Halloween began in the Mediaeval-years. A festival was celebrated in Rome and people walked in parades with masks and costumes. The people carved faces into pumpkins and lit them with a candle inside. These were thought of as to ward off all the evil and bad spirits. That is why people sell pumpkins everywhere during the Halloween season. Soon after the name of this festival evolved into what we call present day-Halloween!Every year in New York City, there is a huge parade, there are floats and people walk around in costumes. Some are animal featured, some are scary and spooky like the skeleton and some are funny like the clown. It is very fun!!!Some people have Halloween parties. Stores sell a variety of costumes; the most popular costumes are the witch, the ghost, many from the old movies. Many stores sell decorating accessories(附属品) like fake spider webs, real pumpkins and plastic ghosts. So, if you are a Halloween lover, you can turn your home into a haunted house! But it wasn’t always January 1 that marked the New Year.At least 4,000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians marked the changing of the year. In Egypt, the year started when the Nile River flooded, enriching farmers’ fields. This happened at the end of September. The Babylonians held a festival in the spring, on March 23, to kick off the next farming cycle. The Babylonian celebration lasted for 11 days. The date January 1 was picked by the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar as the change of the year when he established his own calendar in 46 BC. The month of January originates from the Roman god, Janus. He is pictured with two heads. One head looks forward and the other back. They represent a break between the old and new. The new calendar was in time with the sun and it has been used until the present day.In Vietnam, the New Year holiday happens in February. They buy fresh flowers and a peachblossom to put in their house, following the Vietnamese custom.Thailand has its specific New Year’s date; it’s different from the normal calendar. The Thai New Year is celebrated on April 13. On this day, Thai people play with water, throwing it on each other. It is intended to bring good luck during the New Year ahead. In China, the more favorable New Year is usually celebrated in February according to lunar calendar (阴历). The flightless Dodo was native to the Island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. The easily controlled bird became a source of food for sailors and was attacked by animals introduced to the island by human such as pigs, monkeys and rats. The population of Dodos rapidly decreased and the last one was killed in 1681.RhinosThe Rhino (犀牛) horn is a highly priced item for Asian medicine. This has led to the animal being hunted in its natural habitat. Once widespread in Africa and Eurasia, most Rhinos now live in protected natural parks and reserves (爱护区). Their numbers have rapidly decreased in the last 50 years, and the animals remain under constant threat from poachers (偷猎者).The Giant PandaThe future of the Giant Panda is far from certain. As far as 1000 remain in the wild. The Chinese government has set up 33 panda reserves to protect these beautiful animals. However, the panda’s black and white patched coat fetches a high price on the black market and determined poachers still pose (造成) one of the most serious threats to the animal’s continued existence.WhalesDespite the fact that one-third the world’s oceans have been declared whale sanctuaries (爱护区), 7 out of 13 whale species remain endangered. Hunted for their rich supply of oil, their numbers have decreased to just 300. Collisions (碰撞) with ships, poisonous pollution and being caught in fishing nets are other major causes of whale deaths.TigersThe last 100 years has seen a 95% reduction in the numbers of remaining tigers to between 5000 and 7000 and the Bali, Javan, and Caspian tigers are already extinct. The South China tiger is close to disappearing, with only 20 to 30 still alive. Like the Rhino horn, tiger’s bones and organs are sought after for traditional medicines. Americans will not live without cars! However, some have realized the serious problem of air pollution by cars. It is necessary to find ways to solve the problem of air pollution. One way to clean the air is to build a new kind of clean car. That’s what several of the large car factories are trying to do. But to build a clean car is easier said than done. Progress in this field has been slow.Another way is to take the place of the car engine by something else. Engineers are now working on it. Many makers believe that it will take years to develop a practical model that can please man.To prevent the world being polluted by cars, Americans have to make some changes in the way of their life. They have to cut down on the number of their cars and are encouraged to travel and go to work by bike. But this change does not close down—many workers may find themselves without jobs if a car factory closes down. And the problem of their pollution would become less important than that of unemployment.Americans may live a happy but sad life for a long time because of the car problem.76. Cars 77. Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the US or Australia. They also want their children to take extra-courses activities where they will either learn a musical instrument or ballet, or other classes that will give them a head start in life. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So parents will spend unreasonable amount of money on education. Even poor couples will buy a computer for their son or daughter. However, what most parents fail to see is that the best education they can give their children is usually very cheap.Parents can see that their children’s skills vary, skilled in some areas while poor in others. What most parents fail to realize though, is t hat today’s children lack self-respect and self-confidence.The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take multiple-choice tests and how to study well, but parents are not teaching them the most important skills they need to be confident, happy and clever.Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooking , sewing and doing other housework.Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking demands patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and a lot of confidence. Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and arouse his interest. He will spend hours looking at them, trying to fix them; your child might become an engineer when he grows up. These activities are not only teaching a child to read a book, but rather to think, to use his mind. And that is more important.76. Educating/ Teaching/ Bring up/ Cultivating/ Promoting 77. John Kenneth Galbraith, the economist, died on April twenty-ninth at the age of 97. Jane Jacobs, a defender of cities, died April twenty-fifth at the age of 89.Jane Jacobs believed cities should be densely populated and full of different people and activity. She believed in the value of natural growth. She opposed the kind of city planning that involves big development and renewal projects that tear down old communities. She is best known for her book "The Death and Life of Great American Cities," published in nineteen sixty-one. Another book was "The Nature of Economies." Yet she never finished college. Jane Jacobs was an activist in New York City. Her work defeated a road plan to build a big highway through the Greenwich Village area. She was also against the war in Vietnam. She had sons almost old enough to be called forduty. In nineteen sixty-eight the family moved to Canada. But she remained a community activist. Soon she was fighting a road plan in Toronto.Jane Jacobs was born in the United States but lived and died in Canada. John Kenneth Galbraith was born in Canada but lived and died in the United States.Among his best-known books is "The Affluent Society," from nineteen fifty-eight. He wrote that American society had too many goods but not enough social services that show people care about each other. He warned about widening divisions between the very rich and the very poor. John Kenneth Galbraith believed in the power of government to improve lives. He believed in a system of progressive taxes, and in public support for the arts and government involvement in education. He also supported the idea of public ownership of housing and medical services. Experts say John Kenneth Galbraith and Jane Jacobs led many to question not only how and where they want to live and work. It also led them to wonder what kind of society they wanted to leave for their children.Title: The death of 76 _______________76. Two influential thinkers 77. Names 78.
