A Listen to the summary of the text, fill in the blanks and then recite it.

People have a short-term memory and a long-term memory. When people get old, their short-People have a short-term memory becomes worse, but they can still remember things from a long time ago. S man with an injures brain cannot remember anything for longer than a few minutes. If you want to remember something, you’d better make a picture of it in your mind. If the picture is silly, strange and colourful, you will remember it better. There are some amazing stories about memory in the Guinness Book of Records. Memory is connected to our feelings. If something dramatic happens, we usually remember it well.

B1 Listen to Laura and Ben talking about their earliest memories. They each mention three memories. Look at the pictures and say whether they are the first, second or third memories. Write 1,2,3 in the boxes.

LAURA Do you have memories of your early days, Ben?

BEN Yeah. I’ve made notes of my first three memories. And … here they are: my first memory is playing football at the park. I was very young, maybe about five. My brother took me there.

LAURA My earliest memory is giving my dad his birhhday present. Well, Mum gave me the money and let me buy it in the shop. I can’t remember what it w as, but I do remember how happy Dad was when he saw it.

BEN My second memory is when we got ‘Bruce Lee’, our cat. Mum and Dad didn’t tell me. I just saw Dad with this cat. And I said something like, ‘Wow, he’s great.’ And Mum said, ‘Do you like him?He’s yours.’

LAURA I ’ve also got something special. That was in school. I can still remember my teacher’s smiling face when she presented me a badge. But I can’t remember what I did to get it.

BEN Maybe to keep you from crying all day at school?
