新闻导语翻译English News Leads1 Concept of English News Leads导语是指新闻报道的第一段或开头几段, 它是新闻的起始部分, 是帮助读者阅读该新闻的关键性段落, 也是该新闻最重要的部分.导语起着开门见山, 开宗明义的作用, 导语以最简练的语言把新闻中最重要, 最关键的内容概括出来, 是新闻报道的精华所在, 使读者读完这段文字之后就能得知新闻的主要内容.导语是否生动有趣, 常常决定读者或受众是否继续关注该新闻的详细内容.2 Features of English News Leads(1)新闻消息新,信息量大.新闻导语首先要突出和强调最新和最重要的新闻事实,即读者未知的消息,与此同时以最简洁的文字说明同该新闻事实相关的背景(如新闻事件发生的时间,地点以及原因等).导语的高度浓缩性和概括性就要求导语至少要揭示新闻的几个最基本要素,即新闻人物(who),新闻事实(what),新闻发生的时间(when),新闻发生的地点(where).也有学者主张把其他两个新闻要素,即为何发生(why)和如何发生(how)也写入导语中去.新闻导语应以最少的字数提供尽可能多的新闻信息.(2)导语要简明扼要.导语是新闻的概括和浓缩.英语新闻导语往往只有一句话,如美联社就要求新闻导语的字数超过于25个单词.《中国新闻实用大词典》认为中文导语以5行(110字)为限(冯健:1996:181).好的导语应该简明扼要,直截了当,字字如金,避免空话,套话,废话,不要言不及义.(3)导语要有吸引力.新闻的导语如同标题一样,要能对读者产生一种吸引力,让读者产生依依不舍的感觉.这就要求导语除了把握新闻事实的要点外,还要能运用尽可能多的语言手段来调动读者的阅读兴趣,增强导语语言的形象性和可读性.以张健(2004:58)曾列举到的三条关于某一车祸报道的英语导语例子,进而思考和体会英语导语的基本特征:A) Police Chief J. W. Carmichael announced today two children were killed outside Prospect Park, at Jackson Ave. and 16th St., N. 新闻导语的句式结构好的英语导语常常只用一句话来表达,这句话既可以是"扩展的简单句"(即主谓结构+非谓语形式的修饰成分),也可以是主从复合句.因此,英语新闻导语的句式常常表现为信息容量大,结构紧凑,语义逻辑结构比较复杂的特征.这一特征也是新闻消息区别于其他新闻体裁的重要文体特征.我们可阅读并分析下面这一则新闻消息的导语(China Daily, May 19,2006):[1] Eleven 汉英新闻导语的翻译英语新闻报道与中文新闻报道的一个最大不同就在于导语的撰写方式。
根据汉语流水式的句子行文风格，事件是按照发生的先后顺序来进行叙述的，导语往往是按照新闻事实的重要性递增来呈现给读者或观众的;而英语新闻则恰恰相反，导语并非按照事件发生和发展的先后顺序进行叙述，而是按照新闻事实重要性递减方式出现，也就是说把最重要的事实放在最前面，突出最重要的新闻事实，而随后的一句话是对前面的新闻事实进行内容上的扩展和补充，从而使导语在内容上更加完整。
汉英两种语言的这一显著差异使中文新闻的英译困难重重，同时也说明了英语新闻的写作与翻译是需要经过专门的学习和训练的，并非有一定英语翻译和写作功底就能够译出好的英语新闻，这一点从近年来几十位南京著名高校英语专业和新闻专业研究生在江苏广电总台英语新闻栏目实习的经历就能得到证明，他们开始面对新闻翻译时感到无所适从、无从下手，即使勉强完成了翻译任务，其译文也往往是按照字面意思逐一对应翻译的，不符合英语新闻的语言风格。
很显然、在翻译新闻报道时，译者如果不能了解汉英两种语言之问的明显差异，仅仅按照字面意思进行机械的翻译，那就势必出现逻辑和语义混乱、不符合英语表达习惯以及不符合英语新闻文体特点的译文。
