Desert- 在文中“All grown - ups were once children... though few of them remember it.”
例如“He landed in the desert.”“desert”作为名词,意思是“沙漠”,它还可以作动词,有“抛弃;遗弃”的意思,如“He was deserted by his friends.”2. Boa constrictor- 书中开篇提到了“boa constrictor”(蟒蛇),“When I was six years old, I saw a magnificent picture in a book, called True Stories from Nature, about the primeval forest. It was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of swallowing an animal.”
“It was then that the fox appeared. 'Good morning,' said the fox. 'Good morning,' the little prince responded politely, although when he turned around he saw nothing. 'I am right here,' the voice said, 'under the apple tree.' 'Who are you?' asked the little prince, and added, 'You are very pretty to look at.' 'I am a fox,' said the fox. 'Come and play with me,' proposed the little prince. 'I am so unhappy.' 'Icannot play with you,' the fox said. 'I am not tamed.' 'Ah! Please excuse me,' said the little prince. But, after some thought, he added: 'What does that mean - "tame"?' 'You do not live here,' said the fox. 'What is it that you are looking for?' 'I am looking for men,' said the little prince. 'What are men?' asked the fox. 'They have guns, and they hunt. They are very much like the little prince's rose.”

English thought can be divided into several years of New Oriental induction, because the majority of test reading that article, argumentative essays (or science, or humanities and Social Sciences, almost no prose fiction.) Therefore, the following principles are 80% suitable. Reading has always been a fundamental part of my life. It not only helps me relax and escape from reality, but also broadens my horizons and enriches my knowledge.
One of my favorite books that I recently read is "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. This novel tells a powerful story about racial injustice and moral growth in the American South during the Great Depression.
Through the eyes of the young protagonist Scout Finch, the readers are able to witness the harsh reality of racism and prejudice, while also experiencing the courage and compassion of those who stoodup against it.
Reading this book made me reflect on the importance of standing up for what is right, even in the face of adversity and criticism. It reminded me that change starts with individuals who are willing to challenge the status quo and fight for equality and justice.

“Can’t repeat the past? Why of course you can!”

篇一:《傲慢与偏见》Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others.Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginningof this book.The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”. The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, I must mention the situation in Britain at that time. Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s possessions. Younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. Jane Austen told us that money and possession determined everything, including marriage and love in her century.In “Pride and Prejudice”, the sister of Mr. Bingley strongly opposed his plan of marrying Jane because the Bennets don’t have many possessions and their social positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “moneydetermines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind.A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages. Education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage. Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: ca n money determine everything?Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observ ation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time. The Old Man And The Sea 《老人与海》The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works.Told in language of great simplicity and power,it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman,down on his luck,and his supreme ordeal——a relentless,agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream.Here Hemingway recasts,in strikingly contemporary style,the classic thene of courage in the face of defeat,of personal triumph won from los.Written in 1952,this hugely successfully novella confirmed his power and presence in the literary world and played a huge part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature. The novel is very famous in the world, so lot of people like this novel. We also studied it in our Chinese class, Hemingway's novel are alwaysinteresting I like his novel much, also in his novel we can learn a lot by his meanings. It’s really a good novel for people to read. 篇三:《双城记》After reading "A tale of two cities" "A tale of two cities" is one of Dickens's most important representative works.The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution,intensely attacks the aristocratic social clais dissolute and cruel,and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes.The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed people's great strength.The novel has portrayed many different people. Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually ,Lucie is beautiful and gentle ,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest ,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm,unconventional but also selfleand lofty,MiProis straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister......The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge,but take the life as the price.As an outstanding writer,in Dickens's work,the language skill is essential.Each kind of rhetoric technique,like the analogy,the exaggeration,the contrast,the humorous,and the taunt are handled skillfully,and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak."A tale of two cities" has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes.With the broad real background of the French Revolution,the author take the fictional character Doctor Manette's experience as the main clue,interweaves the unjust charge, upholstery and so many techniques,causes the structureintegrity and strictness,the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style "A tale of two cities" is solemnity and melancholy,fills indignantion,but lacks the humor of the early works.。

“The long path wandered on and on, and the thicket of trees and wild roses and overgrown bush es seemed to get thicker and thicker as she went along it”(长长的小路蜿蜒向前,她沿着小路走,树木、野玫瑰和杂草丛生的灌木丛似乎越来越茂密。
还有描写玛丽和小伙伴迪肯一起在花园里劳作的片段,“They worked and sweated and laughed and dug and planted seeds Mary was as tough as a b oy, and as eager”(他们干活儿、流汗、欢笑,挖土、播种。

Here is an English essay with over 1000 words, without a title and without any extra punctuation marks in the main body. The topic is "English Reading Notes Excerpts 30 Pieces".English reading has always been an essential part of my language learning journey. Through reading a diverse range of materials, I have not only expanded my vocabulary and improved my comprehension skills but also gained valuable insights into various aspects of life. In this essay, I will share excerpts from 30 pieces of English reading that have left a lasting impression on me.Excerpt 1: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss This quote from the beloved children's author Dr. Seuss eloquently captures the transformative power of reading. It reminds us that the more we expose ourselves to new information and perspectives through reading, the more our horizons will broaden and the more opportunities we will have to explore and grow.Excerpt 2: "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." - Joseph AddisonThis analogy drawn by the English essayist Joseph Addison emphasizes the importance of reading as a mental exercise. Just as physical exercise strengthens our bodies, reading challenges and stimulates our minds, helping us to stay intellectually fit and agile.Excerpt 3: "The reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest minds of past centuries." - René DescartesThis insightful observation by the Frenc h philosopher René Descartes highlights the unique ability of books to connect us with the great thinkers and luminaries of the past. Through reading, we can engage in a virtual dialogue with these extraordinary minds, gleaning their wisdom and perspectives.Excerpt 4: "A book is a dream you hold in your hand." - Neil Gaiman The fantasy author Neil Gaiman's poetic description of a book captures the sense of wonder and imagination that reading can evoke. Each book we pick up has the power to transport us to new and exciting realms, allowing us to escape the confines of our everyday lives.Excerpt 5: "Reading is to the soul what exercise is to the body." - Matthew KellyThis parallel drawn by the motivational speaker Matthew Kelly reinforces the idea that reading nourishes our spiritual and emotional well-being, much like physical exercise benefits ourphysical health. By engaging with the written word, we can find solace, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.Excerpt 6: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. SeussThis excerpt, which is the same as the first one, serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of reading. By continually expanding our knowledge and perspectives through reading, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities for growth and exploration.Excerpt 7: "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." - Joseph AddisonThis excerpt, which is the same as the second one, emphasizes the cognitive benefits of reading, underscoring its importance as a mental exercise that keeps our minds sharp and agile.Excerpt 8: "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one." - George R.R. MartinThe renowned fantasy author George R.R. Martin eloquently captures the transformative power of reading, suggesting that through the act of reading, we can vicariously experience a multitude of lives and perspectives, whereas those who do not read are limited to a single life experience.Excerpt 9: "Reading is to the soul what exercise is to the body." - Matthew KellyThis excerpt, which is the same as the fifth one, reinforces the idea that reading nourishes our emotional and spiritual well-being, serving as a form of mental and spiritual exercise.Excerpt 10: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss This excerpt, which is the same as the first and sixth ones, serves as a powerful and memorable mantra, highlighting the endless possibilities that reading can unlock.Excerpt 11: "A book is a device to ignite the imagination." - Alan BennettThe British playwright Alan Bennett's description of a book as a device to ignite the imagination underscores the transformative power of reading, which can transport us to new worlds and inspire us to think in novel ways.Excerpt 12: "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." - Joseph AddisonThis excerpt, which is the same as the second and seventh ones, reinforces the cognitive benefits of reading and its importance as a mental exercise.Excerpt 13: "The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read." - Mark TwainThe renowned American author Mark Twain's observation highlights the importance of actively engaging with the written word. Those who choose not to read deprive themselves of the knowledge and insights that reading can provide, effectively placing themselves on par with those who lack the ability to read.Excerpt 14: "A book is a dream you hold in your hand." - Neil Gaiman This excerpt, which is the same as the fourth one, captures the sense of wonder and imagination that reading can evoke, likening a book to a dream that we can hold and experience.Excerpt 15: "Reading is to the soul what exercise is to the body." - Matthew KellyThis excerpt, which is the same as the fifth and ninth ones, emphasizes the emotional and spiritual benefits of reading, positioning it as a form of mental and spiritual nourishment.Excerpt 16: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. Impression after reading Ode to a nightingaleAfter reading Ode to a nightingale, I felt my blood boiled, I was on fire and full of enthusiasm and just could not calm down. It is so romantic and I had been touched so much. In fact, although the title of the poem is “Ode to a nightingale”, throughout the poem, it has basically little words describing the nightingale directly however thewriter mainly uses the graceful image of nightingale to express his own feelings. It is said that a nightingalewill die on a full moon night. And at midnight, it will fly to the highest rose-tree, and uses the thorn scratch its chest, then makes out a sonorous sound, singing loudlyuntil the blood of the heart dries and reds the roses on the branches. Meanwhile this sound of singing seems like could perate everywhere and everything and keep an eternal life. I see the energy and hope of life and a bright future, and suddenly get courage and bee positive. I think the poem makes me feel in that way.And the author of Ode to nightingale is John Keats whois a Romantic Poet from UK. He was born at a poor family in the end of 18 century in London. In 1818, when Keats was 23 years old he got tuberculosis while also was deeply in love with Miss Fannie Boone. Just under such a terrible condition which between agony, poverty and sweetness, Keats was quite enthusiastic, full of grief and indignation and kept the desire for life in his heart. Therefore, he wrote the poem Ode to a Nightingale on a sober night and panied with the loud sound of the birds.It is acknowledged that the poet was in difficulties and tied out however at this time he heard the nightingale’s loud singing like an inspiring ring. His heart was moved by such sound of singing. I remember the poem was written like this, “That I may drink, and leave the world unseen, and with thee fade away into the forest dim. Fade far away, dissolve, and quite forget what thou amongst the leaves hast never known, The weariness, the fever, and the fret Here, where men sit and hear each other groan; Where palsy shakes a few, sad, last grey hairs.” The soft night and beautiful surroundings make Keats feel fortable andenjoyable. Even though he does not know the names of the flowers, he feels them by heart and soul. What’ more, he absorbs in this world and hope he can always live in such a place where is far from that dark society. Ode to a Nightingale has a clear feature of romance, Keats uses perfect metaphors, gorgeous and quite fluent words to express his strong ideas and deep desire to free world. And I consider the British romance style reaches perfection from Keats.

Like a needle quickly ed into the vein, Wu Xuan’s novella Hair Salon draws blood right from the beginning. Despite its terse sentences, unsentimental tone, and smooth language, it explores an uncomfortable scenario with dualities. As readers, we are told by the narrator that his younger sister will be opening up a hair salon in the same city where he teaches history in a middle school. However, hair salon is a misnomer because it doesn’t offer haircuts at all. Situated in a forgotten alley behind the railway station, the salon provides two main services of shampooing and massage, with a largely male clientele.Instead of elaborating on the relationship between the siblings, the story traces the path Sister Fang Yuan take from a country girl to an owner of the hair salon / massage parlour in the city and the reactions of people along the way, including her brother the narrator, his wife, her parents, relatives and fellow villagers. However, given the scope of the issues involved, the novella doesn’t expand on many threads it generates but simply puts the characters into prototypes, not withstanding a shocking twist in the end. Whether it is the narrator, Fang Yuan and her husband Li Peilin, each person represents many more out there. Even though things happen to them, they are not really always in control but merely being dragged along by a bigger force. More importantly, once they enter the city, everyone is just a part of the locomotives that carry China forward; and there is no way back.Although there are moments when I wish our characters could be more multi-dimensional, what I like about Wu Xuan is his ability toelevate the tragic to a comical level, so that the readers may ponder between tears and laughter. For example, an anecdote in the novella concerns one of narrator’s fellow villagers, who weeps for her daughter killed by infanticide fifteen years earlier, because had she been alive, she would have being able to improve her family’s lot by working at a massage parlour.Such is the humour, wit and the acerbic tone Wu Xuan employs in his story telling and one cannot help but sense a wounded pleasure at the end. His work demonstrates that fiction is still the best way to tell the truth. Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative of the title character, a small, plain-faced, intelligent and honest English orphan. The novel goes through five distinct stages: Jane's childhood at Gateshead, where she is abused by her aunt and cousins; her education at Lowood School, where she acquires friends and role models but also suffers privations; her time as the governess of Thornfield Manor, where she falls in love with her Byronic employer, Edward Rochester; her time with the Rivers family at Marsh's End (or Moor House) and Morton, where her cold clergyman-cousin St John Rivers proposes to her; and her reunion with and marriage to her beloved Rochester at his house of Ferndean. Partly autobiographical, the novel abounds with social criticism and sinister gothic elements.

比如,有个句子“The little prince was a very strange little fellow” 我一开始愣是不明白“fellow”这个词在这里是啥意思。
还有一次,读到一段描写沙漠的文字,“The sand, beneath your feet,is soft and warm The wind, blowing through your hair, is gentle and soothing” 我就试着在脑海中描绘出那个画面,想象自己走在柔软温暖的沙子上,微风轻轻拂过头发,那种感觉真的很奇妙。
比如,“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye” 这句话让我思考了好久,心里琢磨着,是不是说真正重要的东西是要用心灵去感受,而不是用眼睛看呢?

⑴ 局部信息,即选项的内容小于文章的内容;
① 主旨题的标志:mainly about, mainly discuss, the best title
如:fortunately, excessively, too many.
①首段(中心句、核心概念常在第一段,常在首段出题);
注意:a.
第一大层次:① 无中生有 (未提及的概念);
② 正反混淆 (选项的意思跟原文的意思正好相反);
第二大层次:① 过分绝对;
② 扩大范围(注意隐蔽型的扩大范围mostly);
② 注意抓两类文体:一个是议论文,抓作者中心观点和作者态度;
③ 因果倒置;
④ 常识判断;
⑤ 推得过远;
⑥ 偏离中心;
常识判断:如果一个选项仅仅符合常识,不一定是正确答案,还要看文章中类似的意思有没有出现;
如:can, may, might, possible, not necessarily, some.
⑶ 表示结果的词:thus, as a result, consequence
⑷ 表示递进的词:further more, in addition to
⑸ 表示重要的词:prime(首要的); above all(最重要的);first of all
⑴ 解释词:namely(即,也就是);likewise(同样的);in other word(换句话说);
that is to say(那就是说)……
but, yet, although, however, in contrast(与之形成对照的是)
