At least 30 percent of the flights must switch from Chinese to English from May 5,2008 and no less than 60 percent must do that a year later, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said in a statement on its website.
―Many foreign airlines have complained they couldn’t precisely judge their planes’position in the air because of failing to understand the talk between Chinese pilots and air traffic controllers in their mother tongue, which led to hidden safety problems,‖the statement quoted CAAC deputy director Li Jian as saying at a conference.
He said the problem might worsen as airlines were expected to add flights to Beijing after Terminal 3 was opened in the run-up to the Olympic Games.
The move was also an answer to the requirements by the International Civil Aviation Organization for English competence of pilots and air traffic controllers to be upgraded, said Li.
The measure would be promoted to other international airports in the country, according to the statement.
From May 5 this year, crew members on new air routes or new flights to Beijing must be qualified English, it said.
The BCIA’s Terminal 3 went into full operation on March 26, expanding the airport’s capacity to 1,700 flights per day, up from 1,000.

Passage 3
Some people believe that you have to be a special kind of person to sell a product. But although it is clear that a successful salesman does need special talents and an outgoing personality., many of the skills he uses are used by us all : we build and maintain relationships with different kinds of people, we listen to and take note of what they tell us and don’t just enjoy the sound of our the own voices, and we explain things to them or discuss ideas with them.
A firm may depend on their own sales team and /of on the salesmanship of their distributors, wholesalers or retailers. But any company needs to establish a personal relationship with its major clients (key account) and potential customers (prospects). It is often said that people do business with people. Afirm doesn’t just deal impersonally with another firm, but a person in the buying department receives personal visits from people representing the firm’s suppliers on a regular basis or in the case of department stores or chain stores, a team of buyers may travel around wisiting suppliers.
Keeping sales people ―on the road‖ is much more expensive than employing them to work in the office and much of their time is spent unproductively traveling. Telephone selling may use this time more productively (though in some countries this is illegal), but a face-to-face meeting and discussion is much more effective . Companies involved in the export trade often have a separate export sales force, whose travel and accommodation expenses may be very high.. Servicing overseas customers may consequently often be done by phone, telex or letter and personal visits may be infrequent. Many firms appoint an overseas agent or distributor whose own sales force takes over responsibility for selling their products in anther country.
A sales department consists of many people who are based in different parts of the country or the world, who
don’t have the day-to-day contact and opportunities for communicating with each other that office-based staff have. For this reason, firms hold regular sales conferences where their entire sales force can meet, receive information and ask questions about new products and receive training.
31. ―An outgoing personality ‖(Para. 1) means a person with ___________.
A. excitement
B. cheerfulness
C. stability
D. independence
32. From the text, we can conclude that a good sales man should avoid _________ in doing business with people.
A. being self-centered
B. communicating with different kinds of people
ing telephone selling
D. too many face-to-face meetings

A. Though a face-to-face meeting would cost much in traveling, it is more effective.
B. Many firms only deal impersonally with other firms in order to save money/
C. Good salesmen often bring notebooks along with them and note down the customers’ opinions.
D. Key accounts and prospects are important to all companies.
34. Firms hold regular sales conferences because they can __________.
A. exchange information about the business.
B. receive higher education
C. travel around the world
D. take the opportunities to stay together with their families
