Hello, everyone. I have a question to ask you. Do you know where the accidents happened?

Maybe in the street, in the river and so on. Imagine please. Did many serious accidents happen in people’s homes? Is it safe at home?

Teaching steps(教学过程设计)

Step1. First of all, let the class discuss the following questions, and then give the correct answers.

Do you cook at home?

If a cook is careless, what might happen in the kitchen?

What should you do if something is on fire in the kitchen?

When is electricity safe?

Step2. Learning new words of the text.

Step3. Listening tasks: Listen to the tape with the following questions and then answer them.

1. Could people prevent the accidents that happen in their homes?

2. Where are the most dangerous rooms in the house?

Step4. Reading tasks. Reading the text carefully and then judging sentences are false or true.

1. It is necessary to keep the floor wet.

2. Use cold water to put out the fires.

Be careful with knives.

Use electrical appliances in the shower or bathtub.

Keep soap in a soap dish.

Step5. Explain the text and the language notes.

1. Many people hurt themselves by falling off the chair. 许多人从椅子上掉下来伤了自己。

hurt vt. , vi.使受伤；使伤痛

My leg hurts. 我的腿受伤了。

I hurt it playing football. 我踢足球伤着它的。

I won’t hurt you. 我不会伤害你。

Did he hurt himself? 他受伤了吗？

2. Use baking soda or salt instead. 要用苏打和盐。

instead adv.替代；更换

If you cannot go, let him go instead. 如果你不能去，让他替你去。

I didn’t have a pen, so I used a pencil instead. 我没有钢笔，因此我就用铅笔了。

（与of连用）代替

I will go instead of you. 我代你去。

It’s sunny. We will go out instead of staying at home.

天气很好，我们要出去不呆在家里了。

3. Be careful with scissors and knives! 使用剪刀和刀子要小心！

be careful with意为“小心……”，后跟名词或代词。be careful相当于look out,意为“小心”。Be careful with your money. 小心你的钱。

Step6. Come to “Let’s Do It.”

Give students enough time to finish the exercises independently. Then check as a class. Leave some of them as homework if time is not enough.
