Unit 2 English Around the World

The First Period Warming up And Pre-reading Background Information on Students:

Students: 45 senior high school students, Grade 1

Lesson duration: 45 mins

Teaching Contents:vocabulary, phrases, reading.

Teaching Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. speak new words and phrases learned in class;

2.know the different words but the same meaning on British English and American English;

3.know the history of English development;

4.master the basic ways of dealing with reading.

Teaching Focal Point And Difficult Point: let Ss realize the important of studying English well, and love our country more;develop Ss listening, speaking, reading and writing skill, enhance the coomperation with others.

Teaching Aids: white papers, blackboard, chalk.

Type of Lesson: vocabulary, reading.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1. Warming up (5 mins)

a. role-play on the examples of warming up (nominated students,1 mins)

b. ask some students to tell which student’s s entence or word belongs to British English or American English (2 mins)

c. teacher comments on the performance of students (2 mins)

Step 2. Learn the new words in word list (7 mins)

a. Students read new words after teacher (3 mins)

b. Teacher does some explanation about some new words (4 mins)

Step 3. Discuss with your partner and write answers on paper about the first two questions existing in the part of pre-reading (5 mins)

Step 4. Learn the text (27 mins)

a. Question-led exercises. Asking the students to read the text quickly with the true or false questions in the comprehending part (8 mins)

b. Check the results of skimming. Asking students to answer and explain the true or false questions (10 mins)

c. Scanning and group discuss. Ask some students to read the text deeply and discuss with your member concerning the main idea of the whole text and the main sentence of each paragraph (9 mins)

Optional activities: none

Homework: (1 mins)

a> Remember about 15 words in word list and spell them in next lesson.

b> Finish the remain parts of comprehending.

Reflection: (to be written immediately after the lesson).

Background Information on Students:

Teaching Contents:spell words; translate the text; interpretate the phrases and grammar in the text.

Teaching Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1.spell the words and phrases learned in last class;

e new phrases to make sentences;

3.master the basic ways of translation.

4.know the basic grammar.

Teaching Focal Point And Difficult Point: let Ss realize the important of studying English well, and love our country more;develop Ss listening, speaking, reading and writing skill, enhance the coomperation with others.

Teaching Aids: word cards, blackboard, chalk.

Type of Lesson: phrases, translation, grammar..

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1. Warming up (5 mins)

Present the card, let nominated student spell the word or the phrase.

Step 2. Translate the text (25 mins)

a. Teacher translates the first ,second and last paragraph (15 mins)

b. Students translate the third paragraph (8mins)

c. Teacher comments on the translation of students (2 mins)

Step 3. Interpretate the phrases and grammar in the text(14 mins)

a. Teacher interpretates the phrases(act out, in total, more or less, end up withect.) in the passage, and students use them to make sentences.
