L:I happen to know that Tom have troble in culture diffiences.Have you heard of it?

X:Yes,he has complained it to me.You know, he is from England. There is no doubt that cultural difference exist among lots of countries, especially between eastern and western countries. For example, the food. Generally, we emphasis on the taste and perfer to eat hot things while people in Tom’s country are used to having cold food. So here it arouses the culture gap.

L:Right, and it is no doubt that it is a tradition to use chopsticks for Chinese.But people in England prefer to forks and knives.This different result is based on different food they lik. British choose to eat beefsteak,bread,and salad,while Chinese people choose noodles ,pancakes and rice.What’s more, the custom of drinking tea in China and drinking coffee in England are stand out particularly. It puzzled him a lot.

X:Yes, but it is a pleased phenomenon that there is a trend that the food in both countries has been mixture.For example,the coffee and bread have introduced to China. French fries and hamburgers are very popular at children. Well,let me ask you something about British eating habits.We know in western conturies, if rice is served on a plate ,it is acceptable and more practical to eat it with a fork or spoon. And where should we put our thumbs?

L: The thumb must always be above the edge of the bowl.Right? but Chinese like eating rice from a small bowl held in the left hand. The rice bowl is raised to the mouth and the rice pushed into the mouth using the chopsticks. Some Chinese find it offensive to scoop rice from the bowl using a spoon.No wonder that Tom cann’t adapted to the new life. X:Actually there are so many differences between culture of the East and West that we can hardly list all of their different aspects.Further more, the gap of teaching system between China and England is also big.Too much homework for Chinese students has limited their time to exercise and relax.They have to recite many things as to get a high mark. In my opinions,the study in England is more interesting.Teachers pay attentions to training students skills in thinking in realastic life not to emphasis on the importances of memories.In a addition,the rate of going to school ,the salary of teaching ,and the job of gruduates are quite different,too.

L:I should say that China government should make great efforts to improve its teaching syetem. I happen to find that the differences of family values between east and weat is obvious too. In the west, I learn that taking care of aged parents is often viewed as a tremendous burden, where aging and family support are not honored highly. While in China not.
