My name is Jennie. Help! Where can I go in China for the next national holiday? I'm living in Beijing with my boyfriend, and I only have one visa to enter China. We should really like to go away, but I have to saty in China. Can anyone tell us where to go that won't be so full that it ruins everything? Thanks!

Listening 4: Booking a hotel
Receptionist: Good afternoon, Premium Hotel. How can I help you?
Paul: I'd like to book a room, please.
Receptionist: Certainly. When would you like to come?
I don't mind going back to work when I get home, but always like a couple of days at home first to settle down once again and to feel comfortable.
TEXT B: My method of getting ready for a holiday
Hi, Jennie. Max here. You are looking for something that doesn't exist. If a place has even a small attraction, it will be full of tourists during the national holiday. Tourist sights in Beijing will be full, as well as shopping centers, so my advice is to just stay at home or book a hotel and relax. (Commune at the Great Wall is great but expensive. A cheaper option is the Schoolhouse at Mutianyu). Another idea is to find a Chinese friend who is going back home and see if you can go with him. It can often be an interesting trip.

Hello, Jennie: My name is Babs. From Beijing you could take the train to Hulunbeier Hailar. This is worth a visit, although the temperature in October may be quite low already. But to avoid the crowds I strongly recommend Badaling National Park. Here you can walk, ride a bicycle or just relax by the lake.

Receptionist: It's fifty-five euros per night. That includes breakfast.
Paul: That's fine.

Receptionist: Let me see if I got that. One double room from October 17th for four nights, Mr Hanebeck. Is that correct? Paul: Yes, it is. Thank you.

But long queues at airports, full planes that take off at 5a.m. and are full of parents with screaming kids, unfriendly local people with bad attitudes, bad weather, bad food, a bad hotel, upset stomach where you have to go to see a doctor who doesn't speak your language--all that makes for a terrible holiday.
Listening 2: Is going on holiday a good or bad thing
Is going on holiday a good or bad thing? Listen to what one lady said when we asked her. "I think it is great when you go somewhere you have been looking forward to going to for months, but it just seems to go by so quickly, plus you are often sad that it is over when you are back home. But it depends upon the holiday experience. A nice relaxing trip, where everything goes right, the plane is not delayed, you get through the airport quickly, the local people are friendly, the weather is good, all that makes for a wonderful holiday.
We also ask that your seats and table trays are in the upright position for take-off. Please turn off all computers and mobile phones.
Smoking is not allowed on this plane. Thank you for choosing Mountain Airlines. Enjoy your flight.
Paul: On October 17th. I'd like to stay four nights.
Receptionist: Would you like a single or a double room?
Paul: Double, please.
Receptionist: That's fine.
