【辨析】except, but, except for 与besides.

（1）except与but同义，意为“除……之外”，后面的人或事物不包含在内。but常和nothing, nobody, nowhere, who, all等词连用。如：

4)除了一只坏钢笔，他的铅笔盒里没有任何东西。

（2）except for意为“除了……”，引述一个相反的原因或细节，从而部分地修正了句中的主要意思，含有“美中不足”的意思。如：

（3）beside作介词时，意为“除……以外还有”，常表示整体中包括被除去的对象在内。如：
