In the 1950’s, it was illegal to have abortion. After the young widow lost her husband for six months, the loneliness impelled her to have a sexual relationship with her husband’s relative. While she was knowing she was pregnant, she must found out way to miscarry furtively and quickly, because everyone in the town knew she just lost husband for six month. If people realized she did such shameful thing, her life would be ruined. The young widow was afraid of having abortion in private and unsafety place. In hospital, two nurses helped someone prescribe for abortion, they were dismissed by hospital. A nurse provided her a trustworthy private abortion clinic, but it was too expensive for the young widow. It seemed like giving birth the baby was the only way she could do, butfinally she took a risk to have abortion by an untrusted doctor, which caused tragic ending of the young widow.
In 1970s, a mother tried to balance her academic achievement with family, but pregnancy interrupted everything she had planned. Four children and significant study already made the mother feel so stressful, the coming new baby caused extra troubles to the mother and families. Father wanted to keep the baby and he believed the baby was the one of their family members so everyone had responsibilities and made sacrifice for t he family, including the mother’s future and the oldest daughter’s university dream. The knowledgeable women tried to find out what kind abortion
facilities for her as she must make a decision for her future. However, being a women for a long time, her mind was controlled by the society that to be a responsible mother was her primarytask. In 1970s, although there was health service for women who demanded support, like abortion, women were constrained in kind of characterfor a long time, for example, being a mother was more important than anything else. At last, mother determined to keep the baby and she also promised to her daughter that she would go to university, which I thought the mother wished her child couldcomplete her unfinished university dream.
In 1990s, a young college girl found out she was pregnant after having a sexual relationship with her professor, the poor girl was struggling with keeping the unborn baby or achieving family’s expectation to abort the unborn baby. She was so anguished and her friend suggested her to miscarry for the young girl’s future, although the friend wasn’t a supporter of abortion. Near a health service center, a group of anti-abortion women gathered outside, they attempted to persuade the college girls to quit abortion. They told her they could provide financial support temporarily to her, but everything looked so ridiculous, because they never understand how hard her life as shewas struggling with pursuing futureorbeing a mother firstly. Things got worse, a large number of Christians and anti-abortion people stayed at the entrance of health service, they threatened doctors and yelled at them, murder and killer. Things were out of control gradually, people fought and policemen went to street to calm down the aggressive crowd.
