“中国结”全称。
它有悠久的历史,是渗透中华民族特有的文化底蕴的一种手工编织工艺品。
Chinese Knot
During Spring Festival, a great variety of beautiful and graceful Chinese knots on the commercial streets of Chinese cities or in the Chinatown throughout the world bring a strong Chinese flavor. The full name of a “Chinese knot”is a “Traditional Chinese decorative Knot”. Having a long history, the knot handicraft is infiltrated with a
cultural meaning unique for Chinese people. Today, the Chinese knot has become a Chinese symbol with a flavor of oriental culture.

中国的传统节日颇为不少,如春节、元宵节、端午节、中秋节、重阳节等等,
还有许多少数民族的民俗节日。

Traditional Chinese Festivals
China has many traditional festivals, such as Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Mid-autumn Day, Dragon Boat Festival, the Double Ninth Festival, etc. along with some particular festivals celebrated by ethnic
minorities. As time passed, these gradually developed into traditional festivals for the Chinese nation. In recent years, with the
rehabilitation and development of traditional culture,people began to attach more value to these native festivals. For ordinary people, these traditional festivals are precious time for reunion with their family members. Many traditional festival foods, such as Niangao for Spring Festival, mooncakes for Mid-autumn Day, have become best choices for people to send their greetings and wishes to their relatives and friends.

就在20多年前,走在中国的城市街区,你会发现骑自行车上班的车队川流不息,所以外国人形象地称中国为“自行车的海洋”或“自行车的王国”。

经跨入汽车时代,家庭轿车的数量超过2000万辆,年增加率超过80%。
不知不觉中,

Private Cars / Family Cars
As recently as two decades ago, if you walked on the streets in China, you would have seen people

going to work by bicycle in an endless stream. Therefore,
foreigners regarded China as the “Sea of Bicycles” or the “Kingdom of Bicycles.” Now China has been in the age of the automobile. The number
of family cars has exceeded 20 million with an annual growth rate exceeding 80%. Seemingly overnight, the number of Chinese families
owning two cars has increased dramatically. Statistics from an
authoritative investigatory organization show that many Chinese families are planning to buy the second car in the near future.
4. 广东菜
广东菜源自于中国最南部的省份——广东省。
大多数华侨来自广东,因此广东菜也许是国外最广泛的中国地方菜系。
广东人热衷于尝试用各种不同的肉类和蔬菜。
事实上,中国北方人常说,广东人吃天上飞的,除了飞机;地上爬的,除了火车;水里游的,除了船儿。

Cantonese food
Cantonese food originates from Guangdong, the southernmost province in China. The majority of overseas Chinese people are from Guangdong (Canton)so Cantonese is perhaps the most widely available Chinese regional cuisine outside of China. Cantonese are known to have an adventurous palate, able to eat many different kinds of meats and vegetables. In fact, people in Northern China often say that Cantonese people will eat anything that flies except airplanes, anything that moves on the ground except trains, and anything that moves in the water except boats. This statement is far from the truth, but Cantonese food
is easily one of the most diverse and richest cuisines in China. Many vegetables originate from other parts of the world. It doesn't use much spice, bringing out the natural flavor of the vegetables and meats.
5. 喝茶
中国人喝茶已有四千多年的历史,以茶待客是中国人的一种习惯。
客人进门,
主人即送上一杯香气扑鼻的茶水,边喝茶边谈话,气氛轻松愉快。

Drinking Teas
Chinese have been drinking teas for over 4,000 years and it is the tradition to serve tea for guests in China. When a visitor comes, the host would serve a cup of tea with a delicious scent that delights the nose. They will sip the tea when they chat, creating a relaxing and happy atmosphere. In China, tea has become a particular culture. People consider making and drinking tea as art. Throughout Chinese history, a great variety of tea shops and tea houses have been established in every part of China. There are many tea houses
on both sides of the prosperous Qianmen Street in Beijing. People there can relax and entertain by drinking tea, eating desserts /dim sum, and enjoying artistic performance.
6. 春节
春节,又称农历新年,它是中国最重大的传统节日。
时间通常在一月底,二月初,象征着一年辛劳后,冬春之交的休息和放松,也象征着喜庆。
春节前,人们打扫屋子、在大门上贴上红红的对联、放鞭炮。
据传说,这样做是为了驱赶一个叫“年”的魔鬼。
除夕之夜,一大家子定会在在一起会餐,最受欢迎的主食是饺子,人们认为它能带来好运吉祥。
在新年的第一天,每人都穿上新衣服,走亲访友并且鞠躬祝福,为的是新年能有好运气。

The Spring Festival
The Spring Festival, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the greatest traditional festival in China. It is usually a time between
late January or early February, which means rest and relaxation between winter and spring after a year’s toil, and means celebration as well. Before the Spring Festival, people clean their houses, put red couplets on their gates, and set off firecrackers. According to Chinese fairy tales, people do these to drive away a demon named Nian. On the eve of the Spring Festival, a get-together banquet is a must, and the most popular food is Jiaozi, which is supposed to bring good fortune. On the first day of the new year, everybody wears new clothes and greets relatives and friends with bows and congratulations, wishing each other good luck during the new year.
7. 大熊猫(Giant Pandas)
大熊猫作为中国的国宝,被认为是活化石。
中国大熊猫主要生活在中国中西部和西南部,是目前濒临灭绝的物种。
换句话说,中国大熊猫的故乡是四川。
四川成都大熊猫繁育和研究中心(Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre) 大熊猫的家,是市区附近最大的大熊猫基地。
Giant Pandas, regarded as a national treasure of China, are considered a living fossil. Chinese Pandas mainly lives in central-western and southwest China,and is currently an endangered species. In other words, the hometown of Chinese panda is Sichuan. And Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre in Sichuan —home of the Panda is the biggest panda base near the urban district.
8. 孙大圣
孙大圣是中国古典文学名著《西游记》(Journey to the West)中的一个主要的人物。
他是唐僧(Tang Monk)第一个徒弟。
其实在中国,他最受欢迎的名字不是“孙大圣”,而是“孙悟空”,这是教他72变的第一个师傅给他起的名字。
“悟”的意思是“启迪”。
“空”的意思是“无”,这是佛学(Buddhism)中最重要的一个认识。
在佛学中,人必须放弃欲望和所有对财富、名声的渴望,以培养自己为佛。

Monkey King is one of the main characters in Chinese classic literature masterpiece “Journey to the West". He is the first disciple of Tang Monk.Actually in Chinese,his most popular name is not “Monkey King”but “Sun Wukong,,,which wa s given by his first Master who taught him the 72 supernormal abilities. “Wu”means enlightening.
“Kong”means emptiness,which is one of the most important understandings in Buddhism. In Buddhism, one has to give up every human desire and all attachments including the attachments to wealth and fame etc, in order to cultivate oneself into a Buddha.
9. 茶
中国是茶的故乡。
据说早在五六千年前,中国就有了茶树(tea- shrub),而且
有关茶树的人类文明可以追溯到两千年前。
来自中国的茶和丝绸、瓷器(porcelain)—样,在1000年前为世界所知,而且一直是中国重要的出口产品。
目前世界上40多个国家种植茶,其中亚洲国家的产量占世界总产量的90%。

说到筷子(chopsticks)的起源,中国是世界上第一个使用筷子的国家,用筷子
吃饭已经有至少3000年的历史了。
筷子看起来很简单,只有两根小细棒,但它有很
多功能,比如挑选,移动,夹,搅拌或者挖。
此外,它便于使用,价格便宜。
而且筷子也
是世界上独有的餐具(tableware)。
使用複子的人,无论是中国人还是外国人,都无
不钦佩筷子的发明者。
