Cropcircles

Crop circles, first appeared in 1647, in England; has a long history with 365 years. But they did not gain much attention until the first modern crop circles appeared in Britain, in 1972. From them on, more than 2000 such circles appeared in the fields all over the world, expect South Africa. The shapes of those circles are different, but nearly all of them are symmetrical; and they are becoming more and more complicated. These strange phenomenon aroused people’s interests: many scientists, geographers, physicists, as well as organizations devoted themselves to find out how these amazing works came out. Unfortunately, until now, no one could make a convincing explanation for how those circles formed. In general, there are 6 explanations: the first one is the earth’s magnetism, which is said that it is the magnetism from the earth that makes them. The second explanation is the effect of tornado. The third one is about prediction which people believe that those circles are the premonition of some kind of disaster. Also, like other strange appearances, some people believed it is the masterpiece from the creature outside the earth. Still some think they are constructed by human beings as a prank. And the last one is high frequent radiation theory. As far as I am concerned, the most unconvincing explanation is the man-made theory: firstly, I can’t image that human beings could make such huge complicated project in such a short time without any vestiges. Secondly, there were many physical characters that appeared in those mysterious circles, like strengthen of infrared ray, which oppose to the theory. Also, according to the physical characters and the well-made shapes, I doubt the tornado explanation. Still, the prediction theory isridiculous to me, because, in my eyes, every phenomenon occurred in some specific reason, we can not simply attribute them to prediction when we can not explain. As for the other three theories, I think they’re both possible for some reasons. In a word, people still can not tell exactly how those circles appeared; as the time goes, I hope that we could finally find out the reason why they occurred.。

In recent times, the world has witnessed a surge in peculiar phenomena that have captured the attention of scientists, enthusiasts, and the general public alike. From unexplained celestial events to bizarre occurrences in nature, these phenomena have sparked curiosity and intrigue across the globe. In this essay, we will explore some of the most notable recent phenomena and delve into potential explanations for their occurrence. One of the most intriguing recent phenomena has been the sudden appearance of mysterious crop circles in various parts of the world. These intricate patterns, often foundin fields of crops, have baffled experts and sparked speculation about their origins. While some attribute them to elaborate hoaxes or human-made designs, others believe they may be the result of natural phenomena such as whirlwinds or electromagnetic disturbances. Despiteextensive research and investigation, the true cause of these crop circles remains elusive, adding to their mystique.Another perplexing phenomenon that has garnered attention in recent months is the sudden increase in seismic activity in regions not typically known for earthquakes. Areas with historically low seismicity have experienced a series of unexpected tremors and quakes, leaving scientists puzzled. While some attribute this phenomenon to shifts in tectonic plates or underground mining activities, others speculate about the role of human-induced factors such as fracking or underground disposal of waste. Further research is needed to understand the underlying causes of this unusual seismic activity and its potential implications. In addition to terrestrial phenomena, there have been several enigmatic occurrences in the realm of astronomythat have captured the imagination of astronomers and stargazers alike. One such phenomenon is the discovery of anomalous celestial objects exhibiting unusual behavior. These objects, which defy conventional explanations, have raised questions about the nature of our universe and the limits of our current understanding of astrophysics. From inexplicable fluctuations in brightness to erratic movement patterns, these celestial anomalies challenge existing theories and inspire new avenues of scientific inquiry.Furthermore, recent observations of peculiar atmospheric phenomena have added to the intrigue surrounding our planet. From mysterious light phenomena such as sprites and elves to unusual cloud formations like lenticular clouds and noctilucent clouds, the Earth's atmosphere has showcased a dazzling array of enigmatic phenomena in recent years. While many of these phenomena have been studied extensively, others remain poorly understood, highlighting the complexities of atmospheric dynamics and the need for continued research in this field. In conclusion, the recent surge in peculiar phenomena across various domains serves as a reminder of the vastness and complexity of the natural world. While he used to depend mostly on hotels, he now also has motels, small or large, from which to choose.Hotels go far back into history. There may have been inns as long ago as 500 B.C., when adventurous Greek began to go around the world. There were hotels at Pompeii, too. Their damaged foundations were discovered in the 1800’s, but they tell very little of how these hotels were operated. We have information about hotels in the Orient in the thirteenth century. Merchants and their followers travelled from Egypt and Europe into Asia through trade routes. Places in which these travelers could find shelter for the night gradually grew up along the way. At first they were only plots of ground near a spring. A little later, the plots of ground were enclosed within high walls for the protection of the travelers. Still later, roofs were built over the walls. And then, hotels appear. In time they began to serve food and drink.During the early Middle Ages inns were extremely important. When civilization was centered in southern Europe and in the East, travelers who lived at great distances from one another met in inns. Travel then was a leisurely affair, and people spent days exchanging news and comment. They discussed the customs of their different countries and told one another facts, fables, poems, and stories. This word-of-mouth exchange played a great part in the spread of civilization. The first inn to be identified by a particular name was the Great St. Bernard, established about 962 A.D. It was located in the Alps for the convenience of tired pilgrims on their way to Rome. It was a massive stone structure offering shelter for approximately three hundred people and capable of supplying beds for seventy service to travelers—in this case, the famous dogs kept by the monks to track down travelers who had lost their way.19.What’s the main topic of the passage?A.Journeys of ancient travelersB.Hotels in the ancient OrientC.The history of hotelsD.The Great St. Bernard20.In line 5, the word damaged is closest in meaning to _______.A.injuredB.ruinedC.dangerousD.ancient21.In line 6, the word operated is closest in meaning to _______.A.runB.collapsedC.builtD.discovered22.According to the passage, what was discovered in the 1800’s?A.The adventurous GreekB.Hotels in OrientC.Foundations of Pompeii ancient hotelsD.Foundations of Egypt ancient hotels23.Where did the travelers from Egypt and Europe first stay for the night along their way to Asia?A.Plots of ground near a springB.Damaged hotels without roofsC.Plots of ground enclosed within high wallsD.Ancient motels that served food and drink24.According to the passage, why were the inns during the early Middle Ages so important?A.They offered shelters for merchants and their followers.B.They began to serve food and drink for the travelers.C.People from different countries could exchange their customs.D.People from different countries could enjoy their leisurely travel.Questions 25-30 are about the following story.Crop circles are unexplained patterns that are found in field, over tree-tops, and in ice and snow. They are mostly found in wheat or corn fields, but have also been found in oat, rape, and barley. Crop circles are also referred to as crop formations, because they are not always round in shape. While the exact date crop circles began to appear is unknown, such cases have greatly increased from the 1970s to current times. Twenty-six countries ended up reporting approximately ten-thousand crop circles, in the last third of the 20th century, and 90% of those were located in southern England. Many of the formations appearing in that area are positioned near ancient monuments, such as Stonehenge. Nearly half of all circles found in the UK are located within a 15km radius of Avebury. Formations usually are made overnight, but have also been made during the day. The most widely known method for a person or group to make a crop formation is to tie one end of a rope to an anchor point, and the other end to a board which is used to crush the plants. More recent methods include the use of a lawn roller. Some crop formations are paid for by companies who use them as advertising. Other formations are sometimes claimed by individuals or groups. But they don’t have any evidence to support their assertion. In 1991, Doug Bower and Dave Chorley said that they had started the phenomenon in 1978 by making actual circles on crops with the use of simple tools. However, crop patterns not only still existed, but became extremely complex. Some of them even look like the creatures from outer-space in science fiction movies, thus leading to wide guess and debate.25.What would be the best title for this passage?A.Mysterious Crop CirclesB.Unexplained PhenomenaC.Special AdvertisementD.How to Make Crop Circles26.In line 5, the word approximately is closest in meaning to ________.A.seemlyB.apparentlyC.nearlyD.exactly27.In line 7, the word positioned is closest in meaning to ________.ndedB.locatedC.knownD.established28.Where are the crop circles often located in UK?A.In the cityB.In southern ScotlandC.Near ancient monumentsD.Near living groups29.In line 12, the word them refers to___?A.crop formationspaniesC.advertisementsD.individuals or groups30.What can we learn from the words of Doug Bower and Dave Chorley?A.They came from United Kingdom.B.They discovered the first crop circles.C.They made advertisements for companies.D.They used simple tools to make crop circles.Assessment Test 2 for Journey to English 3Answers & ExplanationsPART 11.

I once read a fascinating article about a bizarre case that occurred in a small town in the countryside. It was a puzzling mystery that left everyone scratching their heads. The story began when a local farmer reported that his prized cows had suddenly vanished without a trace. The entire town was in an uproar, and rumors began to spread like wildfire. Some people speculated that it was the work of aliens, while others believed it was the result of a sinister plot by a rival farmer. The authorities were baffled and had no leads to follow. As the days passed, more strange incidents started to occur. Mysterious crop circles appeared in the farmer's fields, and peculiar lights were seen hovering in the sky at night. The townspeople were on edge, and many began to fear for their safety. The local police launched an investigation, but they were unable to find any concreteevidence to explain the bizarre occurrences.Just when it seemed like the case would never be solved, a breakthrough finally came. A group of amateur sleuthsfrom the nearby city decided to take matters into their own hands and conduct their own investigation. They combed through the fields, interviewed witnesses, and analyzed the strange patterns in the crop circles. After weeks oftireless work, they made a shocking discovery that turned the entire case on its head.It turned out that the entire mystery was an elaborate hoax orchestrated by the farmer himself. He had staged the disappearance of his cows and created the crop circles in order to attract attention to his struggling farm. The strange lights in the sky were nothing more than a clever light show that he had set up to add to the illusion. The townspeople were stunned by the revelation, and thefarmer's reputation was irreparably damaged.

1-unit6Unit 6 A World of MysteryIn-Class Reading The Bermuda Triangle百慕大三角1 1945年12月5日,佛罗里达州的劳德代尔堡,天气晴朗,由五架美国海军飞机组成的第19飞行分队从这里起飞。

Let’s examine arguments on both sides and decide which side has the stronger case.First, in order to accept the existence of UFOs, we must accept the fact that alien life exists. Given the fact that there are billions of stars like ours,it’s hard to b elieve that the intelligent life exists only on earth(听力题,考的是说一个句子,问你表达同一个意思的句是哪个或者相反意思是哪个). There is no reason to think that we are unique in all the universe(听力题). In fact, some scientists estimate that as many as 10,000 advanced civilizations exist in our galaxy, the Milky Way. This estimate is based on our understanding of how life began on earth and how earth itself came into being. If we calculate the probabilities, a reasonable estimate is that intelligent life exists near one in a million stars. In our galaxy, there are about 200 billion stars.1,The real issue is not the existence of life on other worlds. 2,The existence of alien spacecraft requires much more. 3,It would mean that the aliens had the technology to travel in an enormous distance through space. (排序题)1,if we accept that there might be 10,000 advanced in our galaxy, it is unlikely(填空题有)that any could be closer than 50 light years away.2,This means that an exchange of information would take 100 years.3,A journey of this distance would be impractical for even an advanced civilization. It’s important to understand the light barrier that makes space travel impractical. First, it has been well established that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. Second, as an object’s speed approaches the speed of light, its mass becomes infinite.(填词题)This means that an infinite amount of energy would be required to accelerate it to a higher speed. (选词填空题)As a result, no matter can be accelerated to the speed of light. This light barrier is impossible to overcome, even for a civilization far more advanced than ours.(听力题)The light barrier argument seems persuasive. However, it’s just a theory. Scientific theories have been wrong before doesn’t mean we can say that anything is possible. And advanced alien civilization could be thousands of years older than we are. It isn'tunreasonable to think that such a civilization might have discovered a way to travel beyond the speed of light.(这两句原来的版本里少了)We need evidence. We cannot allow ourselves to believe anything just because we want to believe it.(填词提和选词填空都有这句)In this case, for example, there is no evidence to indicate that anything can travel faster than light. On the contrary, all the evidence is against faster-than-light travel. This is one of the fundamental laws of nature. The existence of UFOs would be evidence that an advanced civilization has somehow solved the problem of interstellar travel. There are many people who claim to have seen UFOs. (选词填空)In one case, an alien spacecraft is supposed to have crashed near Roswell, near Mexico in 1947. A video shows one of the dead aliens being examined at an alien American military base. Of course, skeptics say the video is a fake. They refuse to accept any evidence that goes against their beliefs.Without a single exception, none of the reports of UFOs has been verified.(选词填空,但是句子是被改过的,大概是no single UFO encounter has ever been veryfied)The Roswell video is, in fact, a clever fake. If such a thing had really happened, there would have been no way to cover it up.(忘记题型了) There is no reason to believe that American government would or even could have hidden the truth for so long. On the other hand, there are many examples of deliberate hoaxes. For example, for several years, people believed that mysterious crop circles were made by aliens. These crop circles were elaborate geometrical figures made in fields of wheat or other grain. Many people believed these patterns could only be explained by alien spacecraft. Even some scientists began to believe that these crop circles were evidence for alien intelligence. But eventually these too turned out to be a hoax. Two men dreamed up this idea in an evening. They fooled people for so long and others began to copy them. The scientific evidence against UFOs seems convincing. However, if we compare what we know now with what we knew 200 years ago, we can be sure that there will be surprises in the future. How many of us would have believed that the entire universe was at one time smaller than a single atom. Yet that is what science is telling us today. Therefore, we should not rule out the fantastic.(听力题)While it is true that many UFO incidents can be explained, it is also true that a number of incidents remain unsolved. We should keep our minds open to the possibilities beyond our understanding, including the existence of UFOs. 1,Imagination is a great thing. 2,However, we must be able to find a balance between wishful thinking and fact. 3,Otherwise, our beliefs can be used against us. For example, the Aztecs believed that human sacrifice was necessary to insure that the sun would rise each day. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people were killed. Modern science can be a powerful to help us to decide between truth and fantasy. It isn’t perfect, and we shouldn’t become its slave. There are many ques tions it can never decide, such as why the universe was created, or what is right and wrong. On the other hand, we should use it to solve real problems that threaten our survival on this planet. Then, if an alien spacecraft ever does visit our planet, they can find a civilization worth visiting.

Are Aliens Real? The question of whether aliens exist has been a topicof debate for centuries. While some people believe in the existence of extraterrestrial life, others remain skeptical. In this essay, I will discuss the evidence for and against the existence of aliens and offer my own perspective onthis fascinating and controversial topic. One of the most compelling pieces of evidence for the existence of aliens is the sheer vastness of the universe. With billions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars, it seems unlikely that Earth is the only planet capable of supporting life. Scientists have discovered thousands of exoplanets, some of which are located in the "habitable zone" of their star, where conditions are conducive to the development of life. This suggests thatthe potential for extraterrestrial life is not only possible, but also quite probable.Furthermore, there have been numerous reportedsightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and encounters with alien beings. While many of these sightings can be attributed to natural phenomena or human error, there are some cases that defy easy explanation. For example, the famous Roswell incident of 1947, in which an unidentified object crashed in New Mexico, has been the subject of intense speculation and conspiracy theories for decades. While the US government initially claimed that the object was a weather balloon, many people believe that it was actually an alien spacecraft. In addition to these sightings, there have been reports of mysterious crop circles, unexplained abductions, and other phenomena that some believe to be evidence of alien activity. While much of this evidence is anecdotal and lacks scientific rigor, it nevertheless adds to theintrigue surrounding the question of whether we are alonein the universe. On the other hand, there are many reasons to beskeptical of the existence of aliens. Despite decades of searching, scientists have yet to find any conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial life. The search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) has been ongoing for years, but so far, the only signals received have been of natural origin. Furthermore, the conditions necessary for life to develop are incredibly rare and complex, and it is not yet clear whether they exist anywhere else in the universe. Moreover, the distances between stars are so vast that it would be extremely difficult for aliens to travel to Earth. Even if they did have the technology to do so, there is no reason to believe that they would be interested in visiting our planet. The idea that aliens would be similar to humans, with two arms, two legs, and a head, is also highly speculative and anthropocentric. It is entirely possible that alien life forms would be so different from us that we would not even recognize them as living beings. In conclusion, the question of whether aliens exist is one that continues to captivate the human imagination. While there is some evidence to suggest that extraterrestrial life may be possible, there is also much that remains unknown. Until we have definitive proof one way or the other, the existence of aliens will remain a tantalizing mystery. Whether or not we ever make contact with alien beings, the search for answers will continue to inspire scientists, philosophers, and dreamers for generations to come.。

The Mysterious of Crop Circles

The Mysterious of Crop Circles

The Mysterious of Crop CirclesClass6 Garlier 20140201019The crop circles usually appear on crop land or some other farmlands. Thanks to some mysterious power, the crops bend down to come into some shapes. In early times, these shapes were some simple circular pattens. However, they are becoming more and more huge and complex geometrical formations. It is strange that there are no steps around, no break as well. What makes it even more surprising is that the crops are still alive, and even grow better than before. This amazing phenomenon attracts public attention in 1980s, and a great number of scientists, geographers, physicists as well as organizations are crazy about figuring out its cause. Here are some popular explanations: The first one is the earth's magnetic field which can produce a kind of electric current to make crops "lying". The second one is the masterpieces of aliens, because most of crop circles were made within one night or even in a minute. What's more, someone even exclaimed that he had witnessed a UFO when crop circles appeared. The third one thinks it is someone's hoax. After a long period of study, it turns out that 80% of crop circles are man-made, which is aim to attract more tourists. Also, a small group of people believe that it is the effect of tornado while some believe in high frequent radiation theory.Though there are some man-made circles, I am strongly against that all made by human, because I can't imagine someone who can creative such huge, complicated amazing works in such a short time. I also doubt the tornado explanation according to some geometrical formations and the well-made patterns. As for the rest, in my opinion, they are reasonable in a way.Anyway, crop circle is still one of the unsolved problems in the world. As time goes by, I believe it will be solved.。

Title: The Mystery of Crop Circles。

Crop circles, intricate patterns etched into fields of wheat or barley, have long fascinated and puzzled both scientists and the general public alike. These enigmatic formations, often resembling complex geometric shapes or even intricate pictograms, appear overnight, seemingly outof nowhere, leaving behind a trail of speculation and wonder. While some attribute them to natural phenomena or human-made hoaxes, others believe they may hold deeper, perhaps even extraterrestrial, significance. One prevailing theory regarding the origin of crop circles suggests that they are the result of natural phenomena, such as unusual weather patterns or localized whirlwinds, known as "dust devils." According to this explanation, these atmospheric anomalies create a swirling vortex of air that flattens the crops in a circular or geometric pattern, forming what we perceive as crop circles. While this theory may explain some of the simpler formations, it fails to account for the intricate designs and mathematical precision observed in many crop circles.Another explanation posits that crop circles are elaborate hoaxes perpetrated by pranksters or artists using simple tools such as planks and ropes to flatten the crops under the cover of darkness. Indeed, there have been numerous cases where individuals have come forward claiming responsibility for creating these formations. However, the sheer scale and complexity of some crop circles challenge the feasibility of such human-made explanations. Additionally, many crop circles exhibit characteristicsthat defy conventional methods of construction, further deepening the mystery surrounding their origin. One of the most intriguing hypotheses regarding crop circles involves the possibility of extraterrestrial involvement. Proponents of this theory argue that these formations may serve as messages or symbols left by advanced civilizations from beyond our planet. They point to the intricate mathematical patterns and encoded messagesallegedly found within some crop circles as evidence of their otherworldly origin. While this theory remains speculative and lacks empirical evidence, it continues to capture the imagination of those intrigued by the idea of contact with extraterrestrial beings. In recent years, scientific research into crop circles has shed new light on the phenomenon, offering insightsinto their formation and underlying mechanisms. Studies utilizing satellite imagery, ground-penetrating radar, and electromagnetic field measurements have provided valuable data on the physical properties of crop circles, suggesting that they may result from complex interactions between natural forces and biological systems. However, many questions remain unanswered, and the debate over the true nature of crop circles continues to spark curiosity and intrigue. In conclusion, crop circles represent a captivating mystery that defies easy explanation. Whether they are the product of natural phenomena, human ingenuity, or extraterrestrial intelligence, their intricate beauty andenigmatic presence continue to inspire awe and fascination. As scientists and researchers strive to unravel the secrets of these mysterious formations, the allure of crop circles remains undiminished, reminding us of the boundless wonders of the natural world and the universe beyond.。

Mysterious Crop Circles
Since the beginning of their existence, human beings have created signs on the landscape in which they live. Such as stone circles, carvings and so on. But in recent years, the beautiful rolling countryside of southern England has experienced another unusual phenomenon and this article mainly talks about the “Crop Circles”.
Debates about the circles among people won’t stop in a short time and they have also resulted in a variety of theories about their origins. Below are two typical views on this phenomenon.
Researcher Reg Presley has been investigating crop circles for years and he thinks probably ninety-five percent of them are
man-made. However he feels that some of the circles are so huge and complex that it’s difficult to comprehend how people could have made them. He also points out that these kinds of formations appear all over the world and a connection almost certainly exists between them.
Some other people don’t think crop circles are really all that mysterious, like Matthew. He is a crop circle maker and he believes that the circles are always a form of art made by people. He doesn’t believe that the circles are aliens’ attempts at communicating with earth and he thinks aliens would more likely use a faster, instantaneous technique rather than stomper boards. He has
offered to demonstrate exactly how crop circles are made. A t last he explains crop circle design and creation often become a kind of competition.
Although there are some bad theories about this phenomenon such as “the end of the world”, they don’t fool Matthew. He feels that the crop circles show signs of creative human beings, not extraterrestrial. However in some people’s minds, opinions like Matthew’s might be a sign of another kind of intelligent
life-intelligent life on Earth.。
