新闻传播学的历史相对年轻，20世纪40年代传播学在美国形成学科。1978年7月复旦大学新闻系的刊物《外国新闻事业资料》首次公开介绍传播学，通常被视为中国传播学研究的起点。

新闻传播学就业方向：

新闻学专业的毕业生就业范围较广，主要集中在新闻单位，如新华社、人民日报、中央电视台，或省、市级新闻单位。也可在广告公司、网络公司以及党政机关、企事业单位从事编辑、记者、策划、文案、宣传、公关、信息咨询或文秘工作。
