Unit 5 Music李仕才【短文语法填空】With the development of modern society and high technology, children wear more and more beautiful and fashionable clothes. More children 1 (allow) to choose their favorite clothes, which is 2 relatively new trend. Many years ago, children had to suffer the whims(突发奇想)of adults as far as clothes were concerned. Like 3 (adult) clothes, children’s clothes followed fashions as well. About 120 years 4 , boys in Europe and America wore white ankle-length dresses, just like their sisters, until they 5 (reach) the age of five. Older boys from wealthy 6 (family) were then dressed in pretty velvet(丝绒) suits 7 lace collars. Their hair was grown to shoulder length 8 longer. For many unlucky boys, these carefully planned and organized costumes were nor reserved for special occasions; they had to wear the same 9 (restrict)and uncomfortable outfits for everyday play. Clean and proper clothes say that the person has both self-respect and respect for other people. Clothing can tell quite a lot about the person, sometimes more than we would like to reveal. So we should pay more attention to 10 (wear) proper clothes in different occasions.【文章大意】文章讲述了在西方,孩子们服装的发展,同时说明了着装的注意事项。

Unit 5 Music李仕才一、阅读理解。

Nowadays, especially in China, everything seems to favor social intercourse, such as gatherings of friends, KTV, group travel, dining tighter, playing cards and Mahjong, plus the Chinese-style “street-crossing group.” Back home, di scussions can still be boisterously carried on within the “circle of friends” of WeChat. However, these scenes cannot always ease a sense of loneliness. Zhu Ziqing, a well-known professor of Tsinghua University, signed with emotion: “My loneliness increase s as scene becomes much busier.” One popular song today is also called “A lonely man in crowds.” Actually, engaging in social intercourse requires ability, while being alone involves the whole character. These days, it is not easy to calm down totally and return to one’s true self. Willpower, intellect and discipline are required. Einstein said: “It is not your working time but your spare time that determines the possibility of whether you will be successful or not.” The “spare time” he referred to could be taken as “spending time by yourself.”Lonely life could be either dull, boring and tasteless or abundant, interesting and colorful, depending on one’s quality, ambition and inspiration.Just as the body constantly requires energy, the mind and soul also demand unceasing inputs. However, information, to processed and integrated(融入)into knowledge, thoughts and feelings, instead of bustle(忙碌)seems to be the right condition. Successful careers in all walks of life worldwide have proved that “the soul grows in peace and talent is nurtured in loneliness”. In a sense, it may be reasonable to say that “Happiness tends to be shallow while loneliness involves profundity”.Man, in fact, needs loneliness more than happy time, and only abundant loneliness can produce quality happiness.1.Which of the following can replace the underlined the word “boisterously” in paragraph 1?A. surprisinglyB. sadlyC. busilyD. peacefully2.What can we infer from the second paragraph?A. Being alone marks people depressed.B. Social intercourse improves our happiness.C. One may feel lonely even when surrounded by peopleD. We should attend social intercourse to decrease our loneliness.3.What can we know from Einstein’s words?A. You should be successful if you spend all your time by yourself.B. You should exercise more if you want to keep your minds healthy.C. You will not become successful if you join in more social intercourse.D. You will be more successful if you can make your lonely time meaningful.4.Which may be the best title for this passage?A. Live On Your OwnB. Happiness and LonelinessC. The secret of successD. Practice Your Social Ability【文章大意】这是一篇议论文,讲述了幸福和孤独之间的关系。

Unit 5 Music李仕才【阅读理解插花】Every week in China, millions of people will sit in front of their TVs watching teenagers compete for the title Character Hero, which is aChinese-style spelling bee(拼写大赛). In this challenge, youngcompetitors must write Chinese characters by hand. To prepare for thecompetition, the competitors usually spend months studyingdictionaries.Perhaps the show’s popularity should not be a surprise. Along with gunpowder and paper, many Chinese people consider the creation of Chinese calligraphy(书法)to be one of their primary contributions to civilization. Unfortunately, all over the country, Chinese people are forgetting how to write their own language without computerized help. Software on smart phones and computers allows users to type in the basic sound of the word using the Latin alphabet. The correct character is chosen from a list. The result? It’s possible to recognize characters without remembering how to write them. But there’s still hope for the paint brush. China’s Education Ministry wants children to spend more time learning how to write. In one Beijing primary school we visited, students practice calligraphy every day inside a specially decorated classroom with traditional Chinese paintings hanging on the walls. Soft music plays as a group of six-year-olds dip brush pens into black ink. They look up at the blackboard often to study their teacher’s examples before carefully attempting to reproduce those characters on thin rice paper. “If adults can survive without using handwriting, why bother to teach it now? ” we ask the calligraphy teacher, Shen Bin. “The ability to write characters is part of Chinese tradition and culture, ” she answers. “Students must learn now so they don’t forget when they grow up. ” says the teacher.【文章大意】本文介绍了由于许多中国人忘记了许多汉字的写法而进行的补救措施——让学生参加汉字拼写大会、教小学生书法。

In the past, sound engineers worked in the back rooms of recording studios, but many of today's sound professionals are sharing their knowledge and experience with professionals in other fields to create new products based on the phenomenon we call sound.Sound can be used as a weapon. Imagine that a police officer is chasing a thief. The thief tries to escape. And the officer can't let him get away. He pulls out a special device, points it at the suspect, and switches it on. The thief drops to the ground. This new weapon is called a Long Range Acoustic Device(LRAD, 远程定向声波发射器). It produces a deafening sound so painful that it temporarily disables a person. The noise from the LRAD is directed like a ray of light and travels only into the ears of that person, but it is not deadly. For those who hunger for some peace and quiet, sound can now create silence. Let's say you are at the airport, and the little boy on the seat next to you is humming(哼唱) a short commercial song. He hums it over and over again, and you are about to go crazy. Thanks to the Silence Machine, a British invention, you can get rid of the sound without upsetting the boy or his parents. One may wonder how the Silence Machine works. Well, it functions by analyzing the waves of the incoming sound and creating a second set of outgoing waves. The two sets of waves cancel each other out. Simply turn the machine on, point it at the target, and your peace and quiet comes back.Directed sound is a new technology that allows companies to use sound in much the same way spotlights(聚光灯) are used in the theater. A spotlight lights up only one section of a stage; similarly, a “spotsound” creates a circle of sound in one targeted area. This can be useful for businesses such as restaurants and stores because it offers a new way to attract customers. Restaurants can offer a choice of music along with the various food choices on the menu, allowing customers more control over the atmosphere in which they are dining. Directed sound is also beginning to appear in shopping centers and even at homes.词汇积累1.definitely adv.肯定2.professional n.专家;专业人士3.phenomenon n.现象4.suspect n.嫌疑犯5.temporarily adv.暂时6.target n.目标v.面向,把……对准4.What could be inferred from Paragraph 2 about the effect of the LRAD?A.It causes temporary hearing loss.B.It slows down a running man.C.It makes it easy to identify a suspect.D.It keeps the suspect from hurting others.5.The Silence Machine is a device specially designed to .A.silence the people around youB.remove the sound of commercialsC.block the incoming sound wavesD.stop unwanted sound from affecting you6.What feature do spotsounds and spotlights share?A.They travel in circles.B.They clear the atmosphere.C.They can be transformed into energy.D.They can be directed onto a specific area.7.Directed sound can be used for .A.creative designs of restaurant menusB.ideal sound effects on the theater stageC.different choices of music for businessesD.strict control over any suspicious customer8.What does the passage focus on?A.How professionals invented sound products.B.Inventions in the field of sound technology.C.The growing interest in the study of sound.D.How sound engineers work in their studios.Ⅱ.七选五(2019浙江,)Rock music consists of many different styles. If you want to slow aging, you might want to eat less. This finding is good news---if you were a mouse. The researchers studied mice, not people.John Price and other researchers studied two groups of mice. One group was ableto eat as much as it wanted. The researchers limited what the mice in the other group ate. Their diet had 35 percent fewer calories than the first group of mice.Price says the mice with the diet restrictions were “more energetic and suffered fewer disease.” They wer e not just living longer but seemed to stay younger for alonger period of time. The researchers found that fewer calories slow down a natural mechanism in cells called ribosomes.Price explains that ribosomes are responsible for making important proteins in the cells. But with fewer calories, they slow down. This gives the cellsmore time to repair themselves. The researchers say ribosomes use from 10 to 20 percent of the cell’s energy to make those proteins.Price wrote that“because of this,it is imprac tical to destroy an entire ribosome” when it starts to break down. However,“repairing individualparts of the ribosome on a regular basis enables ribosomes to continue producing high quality proteins for longer than they would otherwise. This top quality production,in turn, keeps cells and the entire body functioning well.”Price said,“ribosome is a very complex machine, like a car. ” They need “maintenance to replace the parts that wear out the fastest. When tires wear out,” he explained,“you don ’t thro w the whole car away and buy a new one.It costs less to replace theold tires.”“Food, ”he said,“isn ’t just material to be burned ---it’s a signal that tells our body and cells how to respond.”Price said the findings help to explain how exactly our bodie s age. And this may “help us make more educated decisions about what we eat.”1.What can we know about the mice with limited calories from the study?A. They can keep healthy easilyB. They need more energy to be activeC. They can look younger than they areD. They will live a longer life like humans2.What will happen to ribosomes if there are fewer calories?A. What do you do?That’s the challenge for users of a new virtual (虚拟)reality program called SurviVR, designed to train employees how to deal with an active shooter situation in the workplace. The program works with HTC Vive, the virtual reality headset released earlier this year.An active shooter situation is when an armed person or people actively shoot in a small, populated area with the intention to kill. There were 20 such situations in the United States last year and 20 the year before, according to FBI statistics, resulting in a total of 231 deaths. This year saw the deadliest active shooter situation in US history, with 49 people killed in a nightclub in Orlando. In the training situation, users have four choices. They can lock themselves in the office. They can hide, perhaps in the office closet. They can run for an exit. Or they can use something in the office—a computer or a cup a pair of scissors-as a weapon to fight the shooter. This is an improvement on standard active shooter training. Gallo says, which typically teachers people to lock themselves in place and hide. The "lock down" method is often ineffective, he says, and has resulted in many deaths in recent years. In the training’s basic level, no one gets killed. But as the trainings become more advanced, players who make a wrong choice be shot. There’s no blood; the screen simply turns black slowly. If this sounds terrifying, that’s the point, says Gallo. There are plenty of training programs to teach employees how to deal with workplace violence, sometimes involving role play with toy guns. But these trainings are basically games. Gallo says, with employees relaxed and even enjoying themselves. To teach people what they really need to know for an active shooter situation, they need to be scared."SurviVR will take the fear and turn it into confidence." Gallo says.1. What’s the author’s purpose of describing a dangerous scene in Para. 1?A. To attract the readers’ attention on the new virtual reality program.B. To show the challenge that the readers are required to face.C. To warn the readers of the possible dangers in the working place.D. To inform the readers of the correct response in such a situation2. What is the suggested response in the standard active shooter training?A. Fighting the shooterB. Running for the exitC. Using a computer as a weaponD. Locking down3. What does Gallo think of the training programs involving role play with toy guns?A. SearingB. ViolentC. IneffectiveD. Helpful4. What would be the best title?A. A New Virtual Reality Program on Active Shooter TrainingB. What Should You Do When Meeting Gunshots in the Workplace?C. How to Deal with an Active Shooter Situation?D. Paper cutting has long been a symbol of Eastern charm. There are symmetrical(对称的)designs that are usually created by some folding and cutting. When unfolded, it forms a symmetrical design. Chinese cut-outs are normally symmetrical and are usually in an even number series of 2, 4, 24,etc.The oldest surviving paper cut-out is a symmetrical circle from the early 6th century found in Xinjiang, China. From the 7th to 13th century, paper cutting became popular especially during Chinese festivals. The art spread to the rest of the world in the 14th century. Throughout the Qing Dynasty many paper cutting skills were developed including drafting and the use of smoked papers. By the end of the Qing ruling, however, paper cutting was once on the decline because new art forms were being introduced. The Republic of China later tried to revive the art in the 1980s.Today, paper cut-outs are chiefly decorative. They decorate walls, windows, doors, columns, mirrors, lamps and lanterns in homes and are also used on presents or are given as gifts themselves. Entrances decorated with paper cut-outs are supposed to bring good luck. Paper cut-outs used to be used as patterns, especially for embroidery(刺绣).There are two methods of manufacture: one uses scissors, the other uses knives. In the scissor method, several pieces of paper —up to eight —are fastened together. The image is then cut with sharp, pointed scissors. Knife cuttings are fashioned by putting several paper on a relatively soft foundation consisting of a mixture of oil and ashes.
