Why is a space left between the rails of a railway line where one piece joins the next?

1)Some parts of the water are very shallow. But in some_____.A. deepB. highC. coldD. dangerous根据转折连词but 的提示,所填入的词应与shallow 相反,因此答案为A 。

2)Mrs O’Neill asked_____scold us either.A. noB. certainC. manyD. moreand 是一个并列连词;either 为副词,用在否定句或否定词后加强语势,由此可以确定所填的词也应是一个否定意义的词,因此答案是A 。

1)Some parts of the water are very shallow. But in some_____.A. deepB. highC. coldD. dangerous根据转折连词but 的提示,所填入的词应与shallow 相反,因此答案为A 。

2)Mrs O’Neill asked_____scold us either.A. noB. certainC. manyD. moreand 是一个并列连词;either 为副词,用在否定句或否定词后加强语势,由此可以确定所填的词也应是一个否定意义的词,因此答案是A 。

Indeed, if you play our cards right, you can enjoy the benefits of what is called “halo(光环) effects”. This means that if you are viewed positively within the critical first four minutes, the person you have met will likely assume everything you do is positive.Four minutes! Studies tell us that is the critical period in which impressions are formed by someone we’ve just met. People tend to focus on what they see (dress, eye contact, movement), on what they hear (how fast or slowly we talk, our voice, tone and volume), and on our actual words. Most employers believe that those who look as if they care about themselves are more likely to care about their jobs. We know “It’s what’s inside that counts,” but research shows that physically attractive people are generally perceived by employers as more intelligent, likable and believable. Here’s ho w to make those critical four minutes count:First, look your best. It signals success. Studies have linked clothing consciousness to highself-respect and job satisfaction.Second, monitor your body language. How you move and gesture will greatly influence aninterviewer’s first impression of you.Third, say what you mean. Your goal is to show confidence and be believed. Hold that favorable first impression by making your words consistent with your body language and appearance. Finally, there is a matter of how you speak. (20 marks)1. Even if you make the decision to treat your negotiating opponent with honesty and kindness, the other party may not extend you the same respect. Be prepared to stand your ground firmly, yet cordially, especially in the last few minutes of the negotiations. (6 marks)2. This is the time when manipulative parties may employ certain tactics in order to try to fool you into losing focus or lowering goals and standards. Remember that conflicts are generally resolved in the last few minutes.(6 marks)3. The theory behind last minute tactics is that one party may be more willing to give in out of fear that all of the concessions or progress made up to that point (perhaps hours or weeks of talks) might be lost.
