• China is moving rapidly toward an aging society.
• Japan now has 28.98m elderly (those 65 or older according to the World Health Organization) out of its population of 127m more than a year ago.

• In 1950, there were 12 people of working age for every persຫໍສະໝຸດ Baidun age 65 or older. In 2010, there are only 9 contributing to old age support in their countries.

• In 2010, there were 23.0 million older women and 17.5 million older men, or a sex ratio of 132 women for every 100 men. The female to male sex ratio increases with age, ranging from 112 for the 65-69 age group to a high of 206 for persons 85 and over.

• Nearly onefifth of men are 65 or older, meaning elderly people account for 22.7% of the population.

• Today, China’s average is equal to that of the world in terms of the proportion of people aged 60+ about 10percent.

• However, by 2050, this proportion is expected to rise to 30 percent. The absolute numbers are estimated to increase from 128 million in 2000 to 431 million in 2050.
