-Mary Alice: Competition. It means different things to different people. In suburbia, it means keeping up with the Joneses.

competition: 竞争mean: 意味着different: 不同的suburbia: 郊区keeping up with the Joneses: (在社会地位和物质生活方面)与左邻右舍攀比，互相攀比，不落后于邻居keep up with: 跟上，不落人之后Joneses: (生活水平和社会地位较高的)爱炫富的邻居

竞争，意义因人而异。在Suburbia竞争意味着赶上Joneses的步伐。

Everyone knew Bree had the nicest lawn in the neighborhood.

And no one begrudged her this. No one, that is, except Martha Huber, whose own lawn paled in comparison.

-Victor: I can't catch my breath.

catch one’s breath: 缓口气，歇口气breath: 呼吸

我喘不上气了。

-Mrs. Huber: Would you like a slurp from my hose? Victor? Victor? Don't worry, I'm going to get an ambulance!

slurp: 出声的吃（或喝）hose: 水龙头worry: 担心ambulance: 救护车

需要我给你浇点水吗？Victor? Victor？别担心，我去叫救护车。

-Mary Alice : Then one day, Mrs. Huber finally got the chance to mow down the competition. finally: 最后，终于chance: 机会mow down: 割倒(庄稼、牧草等)；摧毁【后面我们知道了Mrs. Huber为了破坏Bree家的草坪，故意把Victor放到Bree的草坪上，看来她是想用Victor 的身躯和救护人员的脚印来弄倒Bree的草坪，扭转竞争形势。】

这一天Huber终于找到扭转竞争形势的机会了。
