Analysis of the Teaching Material:

It is Lesson 1 of Unit 1, Fun With English, Book 12. The lesson is a new one of this unit. It is mainly about introducing age, height, weight, abilities now and before. The content is close to students’ life and it’s easy to arouse students’ interest in learning English. This lesson includes two parts: Learn to say and Try to use. In section 1, it mainly deals with the text and in section 2, it provides some new words and key sentence pattern. After learning this lesson, students will be able to introduce their own age, height, weight, ability and so on. Besides that, students will be able to write a composition about their friends.

Analysis of the students:

My students are in Grade 6. After learning English for more than 5 years, they have some basic English background knowledge. It is not difficult for them to understand the language. So I should attach importance to the communication with them, providing them the chances of using language fluently and flexibly. However, the students in Grade 6 are not so active in class, so I will try many ways to arouse students’ consciousness of competition so that they will be active in learning English.

Teaching Aims:

Knowledge Aims:

a. To enable students to understand and master these words “weigh, grow, cry, smile” and the sentence pattern “I’m 160 cm tall.”

b. To enable students to use the simple past tense, the simple present tense and the simple future tense correctly.

Ability Aims:

a.To enable students to get useful information from the text through attentive listening and reading. And then introduce their own age, height, weight, ability and so on.

b. To foster students’ ability of communication and innovation.

Emotion Aims:

a. To foster students’ consciousness of good cooperation and proper competition.

b. To call for students to show more filial piety to their parents.

Key point:To help students master the new words and sentence pattern through a lot of practice.

Difficult point:How to lead students to use different tenses to introduce their own and others’ age, height, weight, ability by studying independently as well as by cooperation.

Teaching Aids:PPT,tape, cards, childhood photos.

Teaching Methods: Task-based and Communicative teaching methods.

Teaching Procedures:

I. Warm Up

1. Greetings.

2. Free talk.

T: We’ll have an English composition contest today. Do you want to take part in it?

Ss: Yes.

T: If you do well in the composition contest, I will give the beautiful presents to you. So try your best, OK?

Ss: OK.

T: In order to make the contest easy, I will show an example to you. Look at the whiteboard. Let’s play a guessing game firs t. There are some childhood photos of you in my hand. Guess: Who is she?

S1: Zhao Xinxin?

T: No, guess again.

S2: Zhou Xiurong?

T: Yes! How clever you are! She is...

...

(At last, I will show a childhood photo of mine and ask students to guess who she is. If they can’t give the right answer, I will give some hints.)
