(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

T-shirts out; uniforms in
School uniforms are becoming more and more popular across the U.S.A. That’s no surprise, because they offer many benefits. They immediately end the powerful social sorting and labeling(标记) that come from clothing. If all students are dressed in the same way, they will not pay too much attention to their clothing, and some of them will not be laughed at for wearing the “wrong”clothes.
Some people are against the strict rule of school uniforms, but they do not realize that students already accept a kind of rule-wanting to look just like their friends. The difference is that the clothing students choose for themselves creates social barriers; school uniforms tear those barriers down.
As in other places, uniforms remind the wearers of their purpose and duties. For example, when a man or woman puts on a police uniform, he or she becomes, for a time, the symbol of law and order. The uniform means to the wearer his of her special duties and sends the same message to everyone the wearer meets.People with different jobs wear uniforms of one kind or another. For students, the school uniform reminds them that their task for the six or seven hours they are in school is to get an education.
Some parents are unhappy about uniforms, saying that school uniforms will affect their children’s “creativity”. First,as noted above, the clothes students choose
to wear do not necessarily express their individuality. They just copy their classmates. Second, students havethe rest of the day to be as creative as they like. While they’re in school, their job is to master reading, writing, and math;thisshould take up all the creativity they have. Mastery of those skills will be good for the students to build up their creativity in every way.
21.From the passage we learn that uniforms in general_________.
A.prevent the wearers from being laughed at
B.help the wearers keep their duties in mind
C.are secn as a symbol of power
D.help to create social barriers
22.Some people are against school uniforms because__________.
A.they fail to realize that students have accepted the uniforms
B.they believe that uniforms will make students less creative
C.they don’t agree that uniforms ca n remove social barriers
D.they think that school uniforms are too popular
23. The author would probably agree that_________.
A.it makes no difference whether to wear school uniforms or not
B.students’ individuality may not come from school education
C.stu dents’ creativity is related to the clothes they choose
D.school uniforms help to create equality among students

Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer,Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son;suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents,“The door to his room is always sh ut.” Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14—year—old daughter.“She used to cuddle up(蜷伏)with me on the sofa and talk,”said Mark.“Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”
Before age 11,children like to tell their parents what’s on their minds,“In fact, parents are first on the list,”said Michael Riera ,author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers.“This completely changes during the teen years.” Riera explained.“They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers ,and their parents last.”
Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them. Thinking is something you choose to do as a fish chooses to live in water. To be human is to think. But thinking may come naturally without your knowing how you do it. Thinking about thinking is the key to critical(判断性的)thinking. When you think critically, you take control of your thinking processes. Otherwise, you might be controlled by the ideas of others. Indeed, critical thinking is at the heart of education.
The word “critical” bere has a special meaning. It does not mean taking one view against another view,as when someone criticizes another person for doing something wrong. The nature of critical thinking is thinking beyond the easily seen--------beyond the pictures on TV,the untrue reports in the newspapers, and the faulty reasoning.
Critical thinking is an attitude as much as an activity. If you are curious about life and desire todig deeper into it. You are a critical thinker. If you find pleasure in deep thinking about different ideas, characters, and facts, you are a critical thinker.
Activities of the mind and bigher-order reasoning are processes of deep and careful consideration. They take time, and do not go hand in hand with the fast speed
in today’s world: fastfoods, instant coffee, and self-developing film. If you are among the people who believe that speed is a measure of intelligence, you may learn something new from a story about Albert Einstein. The first time Banesh Hoffman, a scientist, was to discuss his work with Albert Einstein,Hoffman was too nervous to speak.but Einstein immediately put Hoffman at ease by saying,“Please go slowly. I don’t understand things quickly.”
32.Critical thinking is important to us because if we do not think critically__________.

D.we might be fooled by other people’s ideas

B.trust the reports in the new spapers

D.criticize other people for their mistakes
34. In the last paragraph,“something new” suggests that___________.
A.the smarter you are, the faster you do things
B.the faster you do things, the smarter you become
C.speed can improve intelligence
D.intelligence is not decided by speed
35. What would be the best title for the passage?
