2 HULL
2.1 HULL MATERIALS, GENERAL HULL WORK
2.1.1. General
The vessel to be of all welded construction and to be built of mild normal steel.
The vessel to be in conformity with approved classification drawings.
Scantlings of hull and superstructure to be in accordance with the requirements of the Classification Society, and where not specified, the scantlings to be in compliance with the Yard's practice subject to Owner's approval of drawings.
Continuity of longitudinal strength to be maintained as far as practicable.
All steelwork shall be full scantling with no reduction for coating allowances or corrosion control.
The structural design of the hull to be made to avoid stress concentrations and to keep stress levels as low as possible without increasing scantlings.
If extra thickness and special materials that exceed requirements of the Classification Society and are not specified in this specification are required by the Owner, they are to be accepted by the Yard subject to extra cost, deadweight, adjustment and concerned matters, so long as the work does not delay the Yard's working schedule.
All cargo and ballast tanks shall be strengthened for partially loaded condition, where sloshing effects are considered.
Steel construction in general
The hull structure to be adequately strengthened and longitudinal hull buckling strength to be sufficient with regard to wave and impact forces, including consideration of buckling forces and loads imposed on the upper deck and sides.
Special consideration to be given with regard to plate quality and thickness, and additional strengthening in way of recesses and openings in the side shell and strength decks. (i.e. Shell plating to be strengthened in way of anchor recesses, sea chests, drain plugs etc. ) No doublers to be used.
Doubling plates below all sounding pipes.
Doubling plates below all suction bellmouths for ballast piping at bottom plates.
Thickness about 12 mm.
Cut-outs in strength members for cabling and piping etc., shall be fitted with stiffeners for strength compensation, and the edges shall be grounded smooth.
Edge of all manholes and lightening holes to be ground smoothly also.
