Sonnet I:
The First Quatrain
• The first and second line answers the question: Why do we desire to increase fairest creatures? It is because if we do so, the beauty of the fairest can last forever.
• The second four lines of a sonnet make of the Second Quatrain. It should develop or complicate the sonnet’s theme. Often some imaginative example is given.
