Big Ben is not the name of a man. It is the name of a huge clock in London. London is the capital of England. This clock has four faces. So, no matter where you stand, you can read the time on the face of Big Ben. Each face is the size of a double-decked bus. The hands are about four metres long. It is about the size of two people standing on top of each other. If you go to London, you may want to visit the Houses of Parliament (国会大厦). In that place you will find Big Ben sits at the top of
the clock tower in the Houses of Parliament. You will probably hear it as well as see it.
The giant c lock makes such a loud noise. “Ding dong, ding dong,” it goes every quarter of an hour.

Mr. Smith’s bad tooth hurts this week. He can’t eat any food and he can’t sleep at night. So he often feels tired when he is at work. He can hardly stand it any longer.
His wife sits on the bed with him this afternoon and she says to him, “Go to see a dentist, Dave. I think he can help you.”
“But he wants 200 dollars for it,” says the man. “I don’t have so much money, you know.”
“I find some money behind the shop this morning. You can go to the dentist’s with it. Look, here it is.”
When he sees the money, Mr. Smith is very happy. But after he looks at the money carefully, he feels very worried. He says, “It’s false (假的). How can I give false money to the dentist?”
“It doesn’t matter,” says his wife. “Maybe the dentist doesn’t know about it.”
Mr. Smith thinks that his wife may be right. He goes to ask the dentist to fill a tooth for him. But when he gives the money to him, the dentist finds it is false. He is very angry and takes him to the police station.
“Why did you use the false money, sir?” a policeman asks Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith thinks for a while, and then he answers, “Because the tooth he fills for me is false, too!”
