[Abstract] Objective To study the positive and negative emotions, heart rate variability (HRV) characteristics of surface ships soldiers with different resilience and to explore the impact of resilience training on them. Methods Structured interviews were used to assess the military forces of a ship, and a total of 85 males were recruited. Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA) was conducted on all cluster sampling. Higher (n1=11) and lower resilience group (n2=11) of 22 people were selected. There were not significant differences (P>0.05) in subjects age, military service, job and education level between the two groups. Positive/ negative emotions scale (PANAS) and HRV( EmWavePC1.06 professional machines were used to record and analyse) were measured before and after resilience training. According to the theory of resilience and its psychological elements, the resilience training included 10 times, one time every week(about 2 hours), to train members self-awareness, emotion management, interpersonal communication, problem solving and social support capabilities. Results①The total mean score of resilience and the total average positive emotion score of higher group was significantly higher than that of the lower group (P<0.05,P<0.01), while there was no significant difference in negative emotions, HRV of the VLF, LF, HF and HF/LF ratio(P>0.05) between two groups; ②Compared with the before-training results, resilience and positive emotion scores of lower group were improved significantly (P<0.01) after training,, while there was no significant difference in negative emotion score (P>0.05); There existed no statistically difference in RSA and PANAS scores of higher group (P>0.05). There were no statistically difference in the RSA and PANAS scores for high and low groups after training, (P>0.05); ③Compared with before-training results, HRV of the LF and HF/LF ratio of higher group, and HF/LF ratio of lower group were significantly increased after training,(P<0.05,P<0.01); While there were no significant differences in VLF and HF of higher group, and VLF, LF and HF of lower group (P>0.05). Conclusion Resilience training can significantly improve positive emotion, keep the vagus nerve and sympathetic dynamic balance for people with lower resilience; Heart rate variability was positively affected for people with higher resilience after resilience training.
