(一)

Peter: Hi, Jane.

Jane: Oh, hello, Peter. How are you? Peter: Fine, thanks. And you?

Jane: Very well, thanks.

(二)

John: Good morning, Mrs. Evans.

Mrs. Evans: Good morning, Mr. Smith. John: How are you this morning?

Mrs. Evans: Very well, thank you.

John: Did you have a nice weekend? Mrs. Evans: Yes, thank you.

Li: Oh, hi, Xiao Wang.

Wang: Hello, Xiao Li. How’s everything? Li: Fine, thanks

Wang: Are you going to do some shopping? Li: Yes, I’m going to the supermarket.

(四)

Waiter: Good evening, sir.

Customer: Good evening.

Waiter: what can I do for you? Customer: I’d like a table for two, please. Waiter: Certainly, sir. Please come with me.

(五)Take It Easy

Hi John, how’s it going?

Not too bad. How about yourself?

I’m exhausted. I had to work until 2 o’clock this morning.

Take it easy. Don’t work too hard.

No way. I must get everything ready before noon.

Then, take the afternoon off.

More expressions:

How’s it going? How is everything with you? How are things? How are you doing? How are you keeping?

What’s up? What’s new? What’s happening? Couldn’t be better. Couldn’t be worse. Not very well, I’m afraid. Not bad. You?

Great! Just so-so. Same as ever. Awful.

(2)Introductions

(一)

A: Hi, Peter! I’d like you to meet one of my colleagues, Frank Hill. Frank, this is Peter Brown, an old friend from college.

B. Hi, Frank. Nice to meet you.

C: Nice to meet you, too, Peter.

(二)

A: Oh, Professor Li, May I introduce Miss Maria Smith. She’s come here to learn Chinese.

B. How do you do, Marie: It’s a pleasure to meet you.

C: I’m pleased to meet you, too. Professor Li.

(a more formal situation where there is a difference in the two people’s age or position)
