The objectives for this major are for students to acquire a broad, fundamental-based knowledge, solid specialty knowledge as well as basic practical skills; to possess comprehensive innovative consciousness, capability of doing research independently and team spirit; to be capable of the works in design and development, manufacturing, marketing and operation management of mechanical and electrical products, and cross-disciplinary collaboration; to have high level cultural quality and professional moral.

Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is committed to cultivating high-level engineering talents with expertise in product design and development, manufacturing process, production and operation management in equipment manufacturing industry. This major offers four academic directions including Manufacturing Engineering & Automation, Mechanical Engineering & Automation, Mechatronics Engineering and Industrial Engineering, with bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.

Enforcing the cultivation guideline of “Engineering Orientation, Broad Foundation, Capability Strengthening and Practice Concentration”, this program is designed to construct extended disciplinary directions and the corresponding courses so as to improve students’ professional expertise and skills. By strengthening the practice courses, the students are required to improve their ability to deal with engineering practice (design and manufacturing of mechanical and electrical products) and to solve complex engineering problems, in order to improve their job-hunting competitiveness.

近年,“机械设计制造及其自动化专业”的建设成果如下:
2006 年,山东省立项确定为“省级品牌专业建设点”; 2007 年,通过“全国工程教育专业认证”; 2008 年,教育部确定为高等学校第一类“特色专业建设点”; 2009 年,教育部确定为高等学校第二类“特色专业建设点”。 This major is ranked the national leading level in the field of “High efficiency, precision machining technology and tooling system”, national advanced level in the field of “Integrated control of mechanical and electrical equipments” and “Digital manufacturing”. By introducing the scientific achievements into education, this program focuses on the fundamental training in mechanical design and manufacturing, and addresses the cultivation of practical ability and innovative consciousness, so as to make the students competent for the technical work after graduation and become the technical backbone. The achievements of the major “Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering” are as follows: 2006: Conferred the provincial brand specialty by Shandong province; 2007: Passed the national specialty attestation for engineering education; 2008: Conferred the type 1 national characteristic specialty by MOE; 2009: Conferred the type 2 national characteristic specialty by MOE.
