As he, defeated, dying, In the third stanza, the defeated,
however, is in agony and knows how powerful success is and what effect it On whose forbidden ear has. Dickinson also implies irony in the 凯乐在远处奏响 third stanza as she implies that the The distant strains of triumph defeated is the one that actually feels what success is, even though he is not 冲破阻碍,飞到他的耳际 the one that achieved it. She implies Burst ,agonized and clear. that the message of triumph is louder 悲痛而嘹亮 in the ears of those who don‟t have it; those who have reached success have not felt what it is like without success 战败者奄奄一息
„revery‟ means dream, thought, extended concentration on any subject ,or even day. Dreaming where in the mind is allowed to roam free over the landscape of unlimited expansion, but to the speaker in this poem, „revery‟ is more like meditation which results in a true vision. The speaker‟s power of revery demonstrates an advanced achievement, far beyond ordinary daydreaming or cogitation(深思) .Ultimately, this speaker is claiming that without any physical objects at all, the mind of one advanced in the art of revery can produce any object that mind desires.
Success Is Counted Sweetest
Emily Dickinson
In the first stanza, the Success is counted sweetest speaker declares that it is only those who “ne‟er 从未成功的人们 By those who ne'er succeed succeed” who have the notion that success is the 最懂得成功的甜美 best thing. A nectar To comprehend a nectar metaphorically represents Requires sorest need. the thing that is desired, nectar is anything that is 方能体会甘露的滋味 sweet.
Thank you for watching
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us-don‟t tell!
they'd banish us, you know!
How dreary to be somebody!
Themes
Only failures fully understand the meaning of success.
Appreciating a boon(恩赐) requires privation(穷困).
I'm Nobody!
Emily Dickinson
I„m Nobody! Who are you?
Revery alone will do,
If bees are few.
This little poem expresses Dickinson‟s continuing love affair with the spiritual level of being. She begins by claiming that to make a physically large item, „a prairie‟, all one needs is two small physical items, „a clover and one bee. Then she qualifies that by saying , „one clover ,and a bee/and revery‟, then she qualifies that claim further, by saying if you don‟t have one of those physical components , „bees‟ ,(and by implication, the clover as well), then you can still make the prairie by revery alone.
To Make a Prairie
Emily Dickinson
To make a prairie it takes a clover and one bee,
One clover and a beபைடு நூலகம்,
And revery.
In the second stanza, the Not one of all the purple host speaker dramatizes a field 身穿紫服的王者之师 victory, saying that the Who took the flag today winners cannot clearly state 今日虽高扬凯旗 a definition of victory. The Can tell the definition, stanza paints a picture of the 却无一人能把胜利的含义 victor in the war, but the So clearly, of victory. victor does not understand to 说清道明 the full extent what his victory is, and just counts it as victory
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!
The poem„s first stanza tells how the speaker meets a fellow “nobody” 我是无名之辈! 你是谁? a friend. Together, the two nobodies can enjoy each other‟s company and their shared anonymity… Are you nobody, too? As a pair, they aren‟t really nobodies 你也是无名之辈吗? anymore. That‟s why the speaker says, “don‟t tell/they'd banish us/you know!” she understands that once Then there's a pair of us-don‟t tell! you have another nobody at your side, you aren‟t really a nobody anymore. And she doesn‟t want to be banished or kicked out from what she says as a society of nobodies. She is they'd banish us, you know! comfortable there.
I„m Nobody! Who are you?
How dreary to be somebody! In the second stanza, the tone of the poem changes. Perhaps it is her discovery that How public, like a frog there are other people like 多招摇-不过像只青蛙 her — other "nobodies"-- that To tell your name the livelong day makes her feels strongly that being a "somebody" isn't such 向一片仰慕的泥沼 a great idea. She realizes that To an admiring bog! having a friend who 整日里炫耀自己的名号! understands you and accepts you as you are is more important than being admired by a lot of people or being in the crowd.
