• Be an apprentice to a surgeon for five years. • Be an surgeon’s helper in hospital for two years more. • Gave up his profession as a surgeon and embarked on writing poetry. • In 1817 , published his first volume of poems, and in 1818 appeared his second volume , in 1820 appeared his third and last volume.
