在圣诞来临之际，英国女王伊丽莎白二世于25日发表传统圣诞致词，今年的圣诞演讲首次以3D形式录制和在电视台上播放。女王在致辞中回顾了伦敦奥运会和女王登基60周年的钻禧庆典。

Thispastyearhasbeenoneofgreatcelebrationformany.Theenthusia smwhichgreetedtheDiamondJubileewas,ofcourse,especiallymemor ableformeandmyfamily.
Itwashumblingthatsomanychosetomarktheanniversaryofadutywhic hpassedtome60yearsago.Peopleofallagestookthetroubletotakepa rtinvariouswaysandinmanynations.Butperhapsmoststrikingofall wastowitnessthestrengthoffellowshipandfriendshipamongthosew hohadgatheredtogetherontheseoccasions.
PrincePhilipandIwerejoinedbyourfamilyontheRiverThamesaswepa idtributetothosewhohaveshapedtheUnitedKingdom'spastandfutur easamaritimenation,andwelcomedawonderfularrayofcraft,largea
ndsmall,fromacrosstheCommonwealth.
Onthebargesandthebridgesandthebanksoftherivertherewerepeopl ewhohadtakentheirplacestocheerthroughthemist,undauntedbythe rain.Thatdaytherewasatremendoussenseofcommondeterminationto celebrate,triumphingovertheelements.
ThatsamespiritwasalsoinevidencefromthemomenttheOlympicflame arrivedontheseshores.Theflameitselfdrewhundredsandthousands ofpeopleonitsjourneyaroundtheBritishIsles,andwascarriedbyev erykindofdeservingindividual,manynominatedfortheirownextrao rdinaryservice.
AsLondonhostedasplendidsummerofsport,allthosewhosawtheachie vementandcourageattheOlympicandParalympicGameswerefurtherin spiredbytheskill,dedication,trainingandteamworkofourathlete s.Inpursuingtheirownsportinggoals,theygavetherestofustheopp ortunitytosharesomethingoftheexcitementanddrama.
Wewerereminded,too,thatthesuccessofthesegreatfestivalsdepen dedtoanenormousdegreeuponthededicationandeffortofanarmyofvo lunteers.Thosepublic-
spiritedpeoplecameforwardinthegreattraditionofallthosewhode votethemselvestokeepingotherssafe,supportedandcomforted.
Formany,Christmasisalsoatimeforcomingtogether.Butforothers, servicewillcomefirst.Thoseservinginourarmedforces,inouremer gencyservicesandinourhospitals,whosesenseofdutytakesthemawa yfromfamilyandfriends,willbemissingthosetheylove.
Andthosewhohavelostlovedonesmayfindthisdayespeciallyfullofm emories.That'swhyit'simportantatthistimeofyeartoreachoutbey ondourfamiliarrelationshipstothinkofthosewhoareontheirown.
AtChristmasIamalwaysstruckbyhowthespiritoftogethernessliesa lsoattheheartoftheChristmasstory.Ayoungmotherandadutifulfat herwiththeirbabywerejoinedbypoorshepherdsandvisitorsfromafa r.TheycamewiththeirgiftstoworshiptheChristchild.Fromthatday onhehasinspiredpeopletocommitthemselvestothebestinterestsof others.
