We lived on a farm and, in the winter especially, we were quitecut off from the outside world. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags andmoved to the capital. However, I soon discovered that city life has its problemstoo. One big disadvantage is money---it costs so much to go out, not to mention basicslike food and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I suffer fromasthma(哮喘), and at times the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of travelling round. Although I have a car, I seldomuse it because of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but thatcan be quite dangerous.Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever your tastes in culture or entertainment. Besides, there are wonderfuljobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally,if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising---and, what ismore, shops are often only a short walk away.Is life better then, in the city? Perhaps it is, when you are in your teens(十几岁) or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have smallchildren, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable. They surf the net, use e-mail and speak in chat rooms. They spend many hours on the computer, and it becomes a compulsive habit. They cannot stop, and it affects their lives.Ten years ago, no one thought that using computers could become compulsive behavior that could affect the social and physical life of computer users. Such behavior has seriously affected teenagers and college students. They are likely to log(写日志) on computers and spend long hours at different websites. They become hooked (着迷) on computers and gradually their social and school life is affected by this situation. They spend all free time surfing and don’t concentrate on homework, so this ad diction influences their grades and success at school. Because they can find everything on the websites, they hang out there. Moreover, this addiction to websites influences their social life. They spend more time in front of computers than with their friends. The relation with their friends changes. The virtual life becomes more important than their real life. They have a new language that they speak in the chat rooms and it causes cultural changes in society.Because of the change in their behavior, they begin to isolate themselvesfrom society and live with their virtual friends. They share their emotions and feelings with friends who they have never met in their life. Although they feel confident on the computer, they are not confident with real live friends they have known all their life. It is a problem for the future. This addictive behavior is beginning to affect all the world.44.The main idea of the passage is about__________.A. the cause of weboholismB. the advantage of weboholismC. the popularity of weboholismD. the effect of weboholism45.We can infer from the passage that_______.A. weboholism has the greatest effect on teenagersB. students can hardly balance real and virtual lifeC. people are addicted to games on the InternetD. virtual life is more vivid and attractive than real life.46.Which of the following is NOT true of weboholism?A. It contributes to the development of the web.B. The chat room language may change social culture.C. The problem will be getting more and more serious later.D. People addicted to the web often become inactive in real life.Speaking from my past experience, it is very difficult to find good friends that you can trust but once you have found them, they are worth keeping forever! Therefore, I think friendship is the most important relationship that anybody could have. The qualities I look for in a friend are a good sense of humor but sensitivity when it matters. Also that friend would have to be strong-minded and highly spirited. I think that these qualities are the key qualities to look for in a good friend.Even the strongest friends can still have arguments, although usually about more serious topics, rather than the usual teenage childish arguments. Some matters can seriously affect a friendship. If one of your friends started experimenting with harmful and dangerous drugs, what would you do ? A good friend would try to help as much as possible, whereas a bad example of a friend would simply shrug(耸肩) and turn a blind eye.Not only the bad things affect friendship ---- good activities do too. Such as bonding with one another, not just by going out on a night with them but by spending quality time with them and talking to each other, which indicates a good ability to communicate. This is a key aspect of a good friendship. Good friends do not always have to be in the same age group as you. I have a good friend and she is 47 years old and I am 16.Unfortunately, some people lose contact with their friends as they grow older, which is a sad way to lose a good friend.I think friendship is one of the most important things in life because if you have no friends you will have no happiness.47.According to the author, true friendship _______.A. is easy to getB. deepens with timeC. needs managementD. affects one’s happiness48.Paragraph 3 is mainly about______.A. why drugs are bad for teenagersB. problems that will test friendshipC. ways that help avoid argumentsD. whether a friend is trustworthy49.According to the author, which matters least in friendship?A. Age.B. Sensitivity.C. Sense of humor.D. Communication ability.50.Which of the following saying can match the author’s view on friendship?A. Old friends and old wines are best.B. A friend without faults will never be found.C. A life without a friend is a life without the sun.D. a friend to everybody is a friend to nobody.51.Sometime in February, my teacher told us about the city speech contest, its topic was “People who have overcome difficulties in their lives”. I thought of my grandma would be my perfect topic. Then I carefully prepared for contest.A couple of weeks later, after the first round I was choosing to be one of the seven finalists! The final was held soon. I was the sixth to presenting the speech. How a relief when I finished it! After the last person finished, the judge made their final decisions and announced that I have won first prize. The audience were going wildly clapping and cheering! I was extremely happy. It was such exciting a moment that I will always remember it.52.假定你是李华,正在一所英国学校学习暑假课程,遇到一些困难,希望得到学校辅导中心(Learning Center)的帮助。

Quite interesting, isn’t it?By the way, I’d like to invite you to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with my family after the College Entrance Exam. It’s a day in memory of the great poet Qu Yuan and we usual ly eat Zongzi and enjoy dragon boat races. Time is life.” But we can see some students waste their time doing something useless everywhere. They spend much time playing computer games, chatting online, watching TV and so on. It’s necessary for us to save our valuable time. Time is very important to everyone. If we don’t save time, we can’t improve our study. But how can we save time? We have to listen to our teachers carefully in class so that we can save more time to learn others after class. We should make a plan to study at home so that we can learn more with less time. If we can make good use of time, we are sure to make more progress.。

Thanks for your concern. Talking about the most impressive moment in my life in Senior Grade 3, I still remember the speech contest which I took part in months ago. I worked hard on it. But when it’s my turn I felt so nervous that my mind went blank. I was about to give up when my English teacher came to me with a reassuring smile “Believe in yourself and you can make it.” Taking a deep breath, I started my speech and it went unexpectedly well.Being nervous is part of human being. However, with full pr eparations and confidence, it’s possible to overcome nervousness in any situation.Best wishes.YoursLi Hua听力录音原文(Text 1)W: The taxi is waiting downstairs. Do you have your plane ticket?M: Yes, it’s in my briefcase.(Text 2)M: Let’s find a restaurant and get something to eat on the way home.W: OK. But we’d better stop at a gas station or we’ll run out of gas.(Text 3)W: What do you think about the play we just watched?M: Well, it’s called An Exciting Life, but I didn’t see anything exciting about it.W: I agree. The show we saw last week was more entertaining.(Text 4)W: So why did you leave London then? I thought you loved it!M: Well, I d id but my wife and I couldn’t afford to live there anymore. We were struggling just to get by. (Text 5)M: Where did you get this souvenir? It’s beautiful.W: I’ve been to so many places; I almost forgot. Judging from the colour of the cloth, I must have bought it in South America.(Text 6)W: Hello, XYZ Accounting.M: Hello, could I speak to Brian Robinson please?W: Mr Robinson is in a meeting right now. Can I put you through to his voice mail?M: No, thanks. I’ll try back later. I just have a couple of quick questions about my tax return.W: Oh, maybe another accountant could help you. I think Gina Bowers could answer your questions.M: Thank you.(Text 7)W: Well, your eyes have obviously got a bit worse since your last test and I think you’re g oing to need to wear glasses … er … not all the time and not so much for reading or writing but definitely for driving. First of all, do you have a book of Nelson Mandela? That’s for my book club.M: Yes. You can find one on the third shelf, I think.W: Well, and do you have a copy of George Orwell’s Animal Farm?M: Let me just look it up on the computer. Yes, it’s over there — in the Modern Classics section.W: Yes, of course. That’s where I found Brighton Rock last month. Thanks. And also, do you have a book on verbs and articles in French?M: A very popular title we have is Grammar in Use and we have plenty of copies in the Languages section.Or there’s Better Writing but it’s a bit more expensive.W: I’ll go with your first suggestion, I think. Thanks.(Text 9)W: T hanks for being here, especially just a few days before your European concert next month. Now you know what I’m going to ask. I mean the other bands are guys I really respect. They’re really great.W: But it was your fans that voted for you.M: I don’t know if that’s true. Look, I’ve been doing this kind of music for four years now, and the people who liked my music from the start know well about me, and we are all friends already. But they wouldn’t go in for that kind of thing. But, you know, you get your first number one single and the music listeners think you’re a new one and they go out and vote for you. For a moment in time you’re on everyone’s iPod, and then you’re elected.(Text 10)W: G ood morning, everyone. With the summer just around the corner, our thoughts turn to holidays. I’d like to share with you a few tips to ensure that all goes smoothly.First, let’s look at the suitcases. If you use expensive designer suitcases you will invite theft. A plain case won’t be noticed as much by thieves. Make sure your case is hard to open; this will make thieves give up.Let’s talk about the journey itself now. If you’re flying with young children, a pocketful of sweets can save tears. Another point about travelling with children is carrying some toys they want to take with them. This can be a nightmare because some children want to take every toy with them on holiday! You can get around this problem by giving them a small bag of their own and telling them they can take anything they like, as long as it fits in the bag.Once you’ve reached your destination, you’ll p robably want to tell everyone home about your trip. Most people like to send postcards instead of letters. But I think photographs are much more personal, and everyone at home will be able to see what you’re up to. Thank you.。

It was the first one you saw.(Text 10)One Sunday night, three men came into Mr Black’s hotel and asked for rooms. Mr Black told them that there were no more rooms left. The men didn’t know what to do, because they had no place to stay in.Mr Black wanted to help them. He remembered that there was an empty room at the end of the first floor—Room 112. It was a very small room and had rarely been used as a guestroom before. So he asked the three men if they would mind sharing that small room. They replied that they would be very much satisfied so long as there was a room for them to stay in for the night.Mr Black then told them that the room would cost them $30 in total. On hearing this, each of the men gave Mr Black $10 before they left for their room. However, Mr Black soon began to think that $30 was really too much for that small room. He called his assistant over and said,“Here is $5.Give it back to the three men in Room 112.Each of them paid me $10. That’s too much.”The assistant took the money. While he was on the way to the small room, he thought,“How can three men divide $5? I’ll give each of them only $1 and keep the $2 left to myself. The men will be happy to get anythingback, and I can also make some money that way. After all, Mr Black will never know anything about it.”So, the assistant returned only $1 to each of the three men.试题答案1~5 CBABC 6~10 ACBAB 11~15 ACBBA 16~20 CBBCA21~25 AACDC 26~30 CABDB 31~35 DCADB36~40 BACAB 41~45 DBBDC 46~50 CCDAB 51~55 AABDC56~59 CADC 60~62 BBC 63~66 BDCA 67~70 CBAD71~75 FDCBE短文改错Our mothers accompanied us to school in the first day. AI used to think of myself as a fairly open person, but my bookshelves told a different story. Apart from a few Indian novels and the Australian and South African book, myliterature collection consisted of British and American titles. Worse still, I hardly ever read anything in translation. My reading was limited to stories by English-speaking authors. So, at the start of 2012, I set myself the challenge of trying to read a book from every country in a year to find out what I was missing. As I was unlikely to find publications from nearly 200 nations on the shelves of my local bookshop, I decided to ask the planet’s readers for help. I created a blog called A Year of Reading the World and put out an appeal for suggestions of titles that I could read in English. The response was amazing. Before I knew it, people all over the planet were getting in touch with ideas and offers of help. Some posted me books from their home countries. Others did hours of research on my behalf. In addition, several writers sent me unpublished translations of their novels, giving me a rare opportunity to read works otherwise unavailable to the 62% of the British who only speak English. Even so, selecting books was no easy task. With translations making up only around 4.5 percent of literary works published in the UK and Ireland, getting English versions (版本)of stories was difficult. But the effort was worth it. I found I was visiting the mental space of the storytellers. These stories not only opened my mind to the real life in other places, but opened my heart to the way people there might feel. And that in turn changed my thinking. Through reading the stories shared with me by bookish strangers around the globe, I realised I was not alone, but part of a network that spread all over the planet.21. Which of the following might be found on the blog A Year of Reading the World?A. Lists of English version books.B. Research on English literature.C. Unfinished novels by British writers.D. Comments on English literature.22. Why was it hard for the author to select the right books to read?A. The author had a busy schedule.B. The author was only interested in a few topics.C. The author could only read books written in English.D. Most books recommended are not available in local bookshops.23. The author is probably from_________.A. AmericaB. the UKC. AustraliaD. Canada24. Which of the following words can best describe the author’s experience?A. fast and effortlessB. challenging but rewardingC. hopeless but beneficialD. meaningful but fruitlessBMy oldest child, Emma, just returned to campus after a long holiday break to finish up her last period of college. These days, friends and family have begun flooding me with one question: What is she going to do after graduation? The job market is, after all, awfully tough. Just this month the Federal Reserve Bank published a study showing that “recent graduates are increasingly working in low-paid jobs or working part-time.” The brigh t spot, according to the study, is for students who majored(主修) in STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — areas in which recent graduates “have tended to do relatively well”.But Emma is a student of the humanities(人文) at a small colleg e. She’s an AmericanStudies major with a focus on the politics and culture of food. For quite a while, I think her field of study is so fashionable right now that I’m not the least bit worried she will find a good job. Yet the more I’ve thought about it, the more I’ve decided to be honest. “I’m not sure what Emma is going to do,” I now say. “But she’s gotten a great education and has really found her interest. — and I know those things will serve her well over the course of her life.”Nowadays, more and more universities and colleges are being measured by the salaries of their recent graduates. In this climate, encouraging your kid to study the humanities, seems, at best, unwise or, at worst, unconcerned with earning a living. But a college is not a vocational(职业) school. And promoting STEM subjects should not be society’s only answer to helping the next generation grow in a competitive world. From the beginning, we never urged Emma to pick a college or a major with an eye on its expected return on money, as more and more families are doing. To Emma, what really matters will be something that we may not be able to measure for quite a long time: Emma’s contribution to the world and how happy she is in it.25. The author’s friends and family_________.A. are worried about Emma’s safetyB. have been worrying about the floodC. are concerned about Emma’s futureD. are worried about the job market26. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?A. The number of the graduates is increasing.B. STEM graduates can be better employees.C. STEM graduates are in relatively greater demand.D. More and more graduates like to do a part-time job.27. Why did Emma choose a major in the humanities?A. Because she is interested in it.B. Because her mother told her to.C. Because it is increasingly popular.D. Because she wants further education.28. According to the author, what matters most in choosing a major is that_________.A. it should be among the STEMB. it should be fashionable and interestingC. it should allow a good job and a high salaryD. it should bring achievements and happinessCRecently a study, led by Pedro Hallal of the Federal University, suggests that nearly a third of adults, 31%, are not getting enough exercise. That rates of exercise have declined is hardly a new discovery. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, technology and economic growth have helped to create a world in which taking exercise is more and more an option rather than a necessity. But only recently have enough good data been collected from enough places to carry out the sort of analysis Dr Hallal and his colleagues have engaged in.There are common themes in different places. Unsurprisingly, people in rich countries are less active than those in poor ones, and old people are less active than young ones. Less obviously, women tend to exercise less than men—34% are inactive, compared with 28% of men. But there are exceptions. The women of Croatia, Finland, Iraq and Luxembourg, for example, move more than their male countrymen.Malta wins the race for most slothful country, with 72% of adults getting too little exercise, and Swaziland and Saudi Arabia are in close behind, with 69%. In Bangladesh, just 5% of adults fail to exercise enough. Surprisingly, six Americans in ten are active enough according to Dr Hallal’s study, compared with fewer than four in ten British. These high rates of inactivity are worrying. Human beings seem to have evolved(进化) to benefit from exercise while deliberately avoiding it whenever they can. In a state of nature it would be impossible to live a life that did not provide enough of it. But that is no longer the case. Actually lack of enough activity these days has nearly the same effect on life span(寿命) as smoking.29. We may learn from Paragraph 1 that_________.A. the decline of exercise rates is newly discoveredB. the study suggests 31% of female adults get too little exerciseC. the good enough data has been collected from only one countryD. the industrial revolution has changed the way people live to some degree30. According to the study, women of Luxembourg_________.A. have little time to exerciseB. hate to get regular exerciseC. take more exercise to lose weightD. exercise more than men in their country31. The underlined word “slothful” in Paragraph 3 most probably means_________.A. powerfulB. richC. lazyD. unpopular32. What can be the best title for the text?A. Worldwide Lack of Enough ExerciseB. New Health DiscoveryC. Evolvement of Human BeingsD. Benefits of Taking ExerciseDWelcome to Arundel Castle which is situated in West Sussex, England.
