The Silk Road is not only a network of trade route connecting the East and West but also a channel of political interaction and cultural exchange between China and other Asian and European countries. The Western music, painting, architecture, and religion were introduced into China via the Silk Road and had great impact on China. The Chinese textiles and the Four Great Inventions were also introduced to the West via the Silk Road. As a symbol of friendship for interaction between the East and West, the Silk Road fostered an embryonic form of world trade and made monumental contributions to the development of the world.

3、唐代，是中国古典诗歌的鼎盛时期，在不到300年的时间里，涌现出了许多著名的诗人和诗作。清朝时编辑的《全唐诗》(Poems of the Tang Dynasty)已收录2200多位诗人创作的48900多首诗歌。这些诗歌让人们深入了解到当时社会生活的各个方面。中国人很喜欢唐诗，就连小孩子也能背出几首。唐诗不仅是中国古代文学史上最光辉的一页，而且也是人类文化史中的一个奇迹。

The Tang Dynasty witnessed the peak of Chinese ancient poetry, with many renowned poets and famous works appearing over a period of less than 300 years.

Poems of the Tang Dynasty edited during the Qing Dynasty has collected more than 48,900 poems written by over 2,200 poets. These poems provide an insight into all aspects of the social life of the period. Chinese people are very fond of Tang poetry, and even children can recite some from memory. Tang poetry not only serves as a most brilliant page in the history of ancient Chinese literature, but is also a miracle in the history of human culture.

4、中美贸易之所以能迅速发展，原因在于两国经济具有极大的互补性（complementarity）。这种互补性，很大程度上是因为两国在资源条件、经济结构以及消费水平方面存在很大差异。中国是最大的发展中国家，市场广阔，劳动力成本低，但资金短缺、技术和管理相对落后。美国是最大的发达国家，经济总量大，资本充足，科技发达，但劳动力成本高。

The reason for such a rapid growth in China-US trade lies in the high degree of complementarity of the two economies, which, to a large extent, stems from their big differences in resources, economic structures and consumption levels. China is the world’s largest developing country with huge market and low cost of labor, but short in capital and relatively backward in technology and management. On the other hand, the US is the world’s largest developed country, big in size, abundant in capital, and advanced in science and technology. But the cost of labor in the US is very high.

5、高速铁路是一种营运速度比普通铁路更快的铁路运输方式。高速铁路的优点是速度快，能源消耗低，环境影响小，安全性能高，正点率高，乘坐舒适方便。中国高速铁路的建设始于1999年，经过十多年的高速铁路新线建设和对既有铁路的高速化改造，中国已经拥有世界上规模最大的高速铁路网。高速铁路的建设和运营有利于加快铁路现代化进程，提高自主创新能力，促进中国经济快速发展。

The high-speed railway is a means of railway transportation faster than the conventional railways. It is characterized by high speed, low energy consumption, slight impact on the environment, greater safety, improved punctuality, and comfortable and convenient ride. China launched its high-speed railway construction in 1999. After more than 10 years of construction of new high-speed rail lines and upgrading of the existing railways, China has had the biggest high-speed railway network in the world. The construction and operation of the high-speed railway helps accelerate the modernization of the railway, enhance the capability of independent innovation, and boost China’s economic development.
