Chinese Knot

During Spring Festival, a great variety of beautiful and graceful Chinese knots on the commercial streets of Chinese cities or in the Chinatown throughout the world bring a strong Chinese flavor. The full name of a “Chinese knot”is a “Traditional Chinese decorative Knot”. Having a long history, the knot handicraft is infiltrated with a cultural meaning unique for Chinese people. Today, the Chinese knot has become a Chinese symbol with a flavor of oriental culture.

Traditional Chinese Festivals

China has many traditional festivals, such as Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Mid-autumn Day, Dragon Boat Festival, the Double Ninth Festival, etc. along with some particular festivals celebrated by ethnic minorities. As time passed, these gradually developed into traditional festivals for the Chinese nation. In recent years, with the rehabilitation and development of traditional culture,people began to attach more value to these native festivals. For ordinary people, these traditional festivals are precious time for reunion with their family members. Many traditional festival foods, such as Niangao for Spring Festival, mooncakes for Mid-autumn Day, have become best choices for people to send their greetings and wishes to their relatives and friends.

3. 私家车

就在20多年前,走在中国的城市街区,你会发现骑自行车上班的车队川流不息,所以外国人形象地称中国为“自行车的海洋”或“自行车的王国”。而今,中国已经跨入汽车时代,家庭轿车的数量超过2000万辆,年增加率超过80%。不知不觉中,不少人发现身边拥有两辆车的家庭越来越多。据权威调查机构数据显示,不少中国家庭都在计划近期购买第二辆车。(157)

As recently as two decades ago, if you walked on the streets in China, you would have seen people

going to work by bicycle in an endless stream. Therefore, foreigners regarded China as the “Sea of Bicycles” or the “Kingdom of Bicycles.” Now China has been in the age of the automobile. The number of family cars has exceeded 20 million with an annual growth rate exceeding 80%. Seemingly overnight, the number of Chinese families owning two cars has increased dramatically. Statistics from an authoritative investigatory organization show that many Chinese families are planning to buy the second car in the near future.

4. 广东菜

广东菜源自于中国最南部的省份——广东省。大多数华侨来自广东,因此广东菜也许是国外最广泛的中国地方菜系。广东人热衷于尝试用各种不同的肉类和蔬菜。事实上,中国北方人常说,广东人吃天上飞的,除了飞机;地上爬的,除了火车;水里游的,除了船儿。这一陈述很不属实,但是广东菜是各类丰富的中国菜系之一。使用很多来自世界其他地方的蔬菜,不大使用辣椒,而是带出蔬菜和肉类自身的风味。(180)

Cantonese food originates from Guangdong, the southernmost province in China. The majority of overseas Chinese people are from Guangdong (Canton)so Cantonese is perhaps the most widely available Chinese regional cuisine outside of China. Cantonese are known to have an adventurous palate, able to eat many different kinds of meats and vegetables. In fact, people in Northern China often say that Cantonese people will eat anything that flies except airplanes, anything that moves on the ground except trains, and anything that moves in the water except boats. This statement is far from the truth, but Cantonese food is easily one of the most diverse and richest cuisines in China. Many vegetables originate from other parts of the world. It doesn't use much spice, bringing out the natural flavor of the vegetables and meats.
