首先，我代表中国政府和人民，对布什总统来华访问表示热烈欢迎。这是我与布什总统的第二次会晤。四个月前，我们在上海亚太经合组织会议期间进行了成功的会晤。在今天的会谈中，我与布什总统回顾了中美关系30年来的历程，深入讨论了双边关系和当前国际形势，达成了许多重要共识，取得了多方面的积极成果。我希望并相信，这次会晤对中美关系的改善和发展将产生积极的影响。

First of all, on behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, I would like to

express my warm welcome to President Bush's visit to China. This is my second meeting with

President Bush. Four months ago, we had a successful meeting during the APEC meetings in

Shanghai. In our talks today, President Bush and I reviewed 30 years of Sino-US relations

and had in-depth discussions on bilateral relations and the current international situation.

We had reached consensus on many important issues and achieved positive results in many

areas. I wish and believe that my meeting with President Bush will have a positive impact on

the improvement and development of Sino-US relations.

尊敬的来宾，朋友们，女士们、先生们：

在金秋十月美丽的成都市有幸举办21世纪国际城市建设和环境会议。我谨代表1300万成都人民向会议表示最热烈的祝贺。同时，我也想对联合国人类住区委员会和中华人民共和国建设部选择成都这个中国西部城市来主办这个会议表示衷心的感谢。我们还想许多尊贵的来宾和朋友不远万里来参加此次会议表示感谢。

Honourable guests and friends, Ladies and Gentlemen,

The beautiful city of Chengdu is very lucky to be able to host the International

Conference on Urban Construction and the Environment for the 21st Century during this golden

month of October. On behalf of the 1.3 billion people of Chengdu, I would firstly like to

extend my warmest congratulations to the Conference. At the same time, I would also like to

express my sincere thanks to the United States Centre for Human Settlements and the Ministry

of Construction of the People's Republic of China for choosing Chengdu, China's western

city, to host the Conference. We also thank the many honourable guests and friends who have

traveled so far to come to this conference.

It?s my honor to offer a toast to our guests from Mexico. Mr. President and Mrs. Fox, on behalf of the American people, Laura and I welcome you to the United States. This is not only a state dinner; it?s like a family gathering. The most important ties between your country and mine, Mr. President, go beyond economics and politics and geography. They are the ties of heritage, culture and family. This is true for millions of Mexican and American families, including my own. We have before us a great prospect, an era of prosperity in a hemisphere of liberty. Our cooperation is broad and unprecedented; our sense of trust is growing.
